Part of my enjoyment of Bonnaroo includes discovery of new acts, folks you may just happen to catch or are opening before or after some band you like.
Mine for '13:
Frank Turner, who was awesome. Glad he started up at What while I was waiting around for another black lemonade, even if I was all wrong about his accent.
Miloh, on the Miller stage - apparently he's a superstar in Europe, I can see why
Holy Ghost - so glad it's the 80s again in some key ways. They reminded me of Wild Cub, a Nashville band of which I am a huge fan
Anybody else have any real 'finds'? Also absolutely loved Fatoumata Diawara, but as I'm always a big fan of the African music at Roo, I had previously bought her album and made a special effort to see her. Apparently she's touring with Vieux Farka Toure, another of my Roo discoveries, but all the dates are outside the US... (here's a sampler w/Roo staples Amadou & Miriam to boot)

That Fatoumata Diawara show was a blast! She was an amazing performer and I loved the encores. She really got the crowd in a frenzy and the handful of people there (tent seemed half full?) were definitely dancing. I know I was. Loved her dancing, especially.
MY DISCOVERY:
The Revivalists. Stumbled into their Cafe Where set after Bjork and had a blast. Few hundred people having a blast. Then made an effort to catch their show on Sonic the next day. Met a random stranger before and told him he HAD to come with me. He couldn't stop thanking me and said it was the most fun he had at Roo. Such a great live band. Listening to their stuff on Spotify isn't quite as rewarding, but live these guys were high energy and the lead singer was exhausted backstage after giving it his all. Took him a bit backstage before he could come out to greet fans.

Maps and Atlases. Really enjoyed their set, and had no intention of seeing them before 'roo.
I REALLY wanted to see them, their latest album is pure amazing but they were at the same time as Alt-J and on that super small miller stage that just gets drowned out by the other stages so I went to Alt-J.
I had heard of Milo Greene, but never listened to them. I went to use the port-o-potties next to That tent and overheard them doing a great cover of Sufjan Stevens' "Chicago" and decided to check it out. My dad and I both enjoyed them. Really liked the "Shot In The Arm" cover, as well.
Got to Patrick Watson's set late to get a spot for Lord Huron and really liked what I heard. Dude can sing.
Johnnyswim were REALLY good. Everything I had seen before was just a two-piece acoustic band. Adding the rest of the members really brought the live show up. And she is gorgeous.
The Revivalists. Holy crap. My cousin really likes them so we went over to cafe where early to get right up front (i was right in front of the speakers and my ears are still recovering from that...). I was dancing and bopping the whole time. I didn't expect them to rock as hard as they did. We saw them again Sunday at the Sonic Stage because we just hadn't had enough!
I suppose it isn't a discovery in the technical sense if Pondo was there first (not just as a spectator, but also contributing vocals at one point.) But I'd never heard of these guys when I wandered in and really enjoyed their set.

Right!? I was really glad to have stumbled upon their show at the Miller stage. Did you get a copy of their EP?
