Pre-headliner or closing the Which. Depending on how their year goes I could see them being a headliner. If they get some awards or have some other big shows that boost them up I could see them making the leap. Maybe not this year but we'll see.
Just snagged a front row seat for VW at Ryman in Nashville. Never thought I'd say that after hating their first album. But their sophomore album is too good.

They had such a bad rap after the 1st cd (esp on the left coast). Some people hated that they played Coachella but I sat thru the whole show and it was pretty darn good .....Come to the farm .... cr****
They're long overdue. The new album is incredible. Where would they play? Are they too big for a Which closer?
They either pre-headline or headline. I'm leaning towards the latter, especially after they clean up at the Grammy Awards this year. Think Arcade Fire 2011.
I can't wait for all the tweets/facebook posts about "Who are Vampire Weekend?"
I want to see them again but $50 is just too steep. Festivals have made me such a cheapskate for single show tickets.
So true. I'm having a hard time finding a show for under 50 tonight. I'm trying to explain to the people I'm with that paying over 50 should only be done for headline caliber acts, not OAR.

I super agree, but then I caved and a ticket anyway because it's in a good spot. Woops.

Caught them front row at Red Rocks a month ago really really solid. That said it is obvious they are coming in 2014....
But I really don't think they headline.
Really? 11.5 months away from Bonnaroo 2014 and it's obvious that they're coming? I'd love it, and it is somewhat likely, but it's far from obvious.
They are positioned better then a lot of bands to get a lot of attention this fall because of their third album and the Grammies. I think that is the obvious part. I just think Roo has a really good shot of getting them considering the festivals they have already played this year and what they haven't.
It also seems super obvious they are going to keep touring this third album thru next year. They are having WAY more success on this album then their previous two.

You and I must differ on the word "obvious." You seem to think it means "possible."
Also, they were huge before this newest album. They are getting bigger and bigger, yes (because it's their best album), but WAY more success is a bit strong since they were already very successful.
They just played Coachella and Sasquatch and this album can go mainstream while their last two could not. This new album is way more poppy radio friendly and it will be grammy friendly too. They were already successful in the eyes of music fans but you can't tell me they were already headliner successful.
You think their last two albums were radio friendly?
Edit: I'd easily throw a $100 on this as well. I am really certain they are coming to the farm next year. Because yes. To me it is super obvious.

I thought it was obvious that Jack White would be on the farm in 2011 and 2012 and that never ended up happening. Hell, I thought it was obvious that Vampire Weekend would be at Roo this year considering they had the new album coming and were playing other festivals.

VW are more likely than a lot of other bands for next year, but the point is it's absolutely insane to say that any band is "obviously" coming next year 11.5 months before next year's festival.
But I really don't think they headline. I'd be down tho. But I see a What closer Bjork spot much more likely.
Agreed, they would make for a really strong pre-headliner for Saturday. This show would be great enough that it would certainly make up for the weaker Saturday headliner that we are likely to get.
Business, money and capitalism with mainstream potential and radio friendly album makes it obvious to me. Business is business and year in year out they are run the same. If they are not obvious then no one is. That is also a fact.
What you say only makes sense to me in a vacuum. I.E. it is NOT obvious they are grammy material. If you think it is obvious they are grammy material it is pretty easy to start making the leap.
Edit: But i can tell you one thing we both will agree is OBVIOUS.. We are going to agree to disagree here

Jack White never had MTV style traction that VW just got with this 3rd album.

Yea, but Jack White lives in Tennessee and had a ton of associated acts (including his wife at the time) playing the festival those years so it seemed likely he'd make an appearance....even as an unlisted guest spot.
