The only contribution I have to this thread is that I have been jamming out to Dr. Dog exclusively for the past few days. Lots of one person-in home dance parties and such. Bring 'em to the farm, please!
Somehow I haven't been in this thread in a while and missed all of this, but thank you for proving everything I thought about about your taste in music.

Saw them over the weekend. They put on a great show and the newer songs all sound fantastic live. They are really good at going to dark, brooding songs and right back into rainbow, dancey, poppy stuff. Their drummer was on FIRE too and seemed to be having the time of his life on his elevated platform. The setlist was awesome and went longer than I was expecting. Really good stuff and the stage design was cool. Would be perfect for a Late Night tent. I'd put them and Antibalas as a late night tent, since the Antibalas horns came out at the NYC show and played along to a few songs. Would love to see them do it again at Roo (but with even more collaboration).
Setlist:
Ain't It Strange Distant Light That Old Black Hole These Days The Truth Broken Heart Oh Me Oh My Cuckoo Say Ahhh Rock & Roll Nellie Heavy Light Long Way Down (with Antibalas) The Beach (with Antibalas) Jackie Wants a Black Eye Heart It Races (Architecture in Helsinki cover) Shadow People Lonesome

ITM, glad you had a good time! The drummer, Slick, is an absolute beast and he really gave the band an even better live sound once he joined. I'm so jealous about Antibalas coming out. I just started listening to them after seeing the Mountain Jam lineup and I really dig em.
I'll be seeing them Friday and Saturday this weekend (shows 13 and 14 for me + Saturday is on my bday!) and I can't wait. I've already listened to B Room much more than Be the Void., it really is a great album. All of Toby's tracks are amazing, especially Cuckoo and Rock & Roll; really looking forward to hearing those tracks live this weekend!
Ahhhh that sounds amazing, ITM. How was 'Too Weak To Ramble' live? I've noticed over the years since I've seen them live that Toby's voice has faltered a bit on those key notes in songs like The Beach! But he always kicks ass on bass. If you guys like Eric Slick a lot, check out his side project: Norwegian Arms. He plays mainly a floor-tom with whatever else he can get his hands on, but he accompanies Brendan Mulvihill who sings and plays mandolin. It's different, but that very high energy Slick brings to Dr. Dog sets.

Was pretty powerful live. I enjoyed it on the album but playing it towards the end of the night and singing it like he did made it even better.
I will strongly support any motion that gets the Dog back on the farm. I drove over 300 miles to see them in Montreal the other night, and I had my mind blown. But nearly didn't make it due to the only major highway between Toronto and Montreal being COMPLETELY shut down for the entire day. Lousy 75-car pileup! What should have been a five-hour drive turned into a twelve-hour stress fest, as I fretted nonstop about whether I would actually make it in time for the Dog.
With three hours to showtime, the road finally opened up, but I was still a few hundred miles away from Montreal. I hauled ass directly to the venue, completely ignoring all "NO PARKING" signs and screeched to a halt right behind the Dog's tour bus. I grabbed the "PLEASE PLAY SAY SOMETHING" sign I had made the night before and ran in the venue, before being told I couldn't bring my sign inside. Not wanting to waste any time arguing, I ditched the sign back in the car and found a good spot inside the venue just as the Dog took the stage.
I walked right up to the first row on the side of the stage and rocked the FUCK out for the next two hours, releasing all the built-up tension I had accumulated during my nightmare drive. The Dog were so joyously loose, playing awesome deep cuts ("Say Ahh", are you kidding me?!) and bantering endlessly with the audience. At one point, Scott said that they had nowhere to be for a few days and would be up for playing past curfew and taking requests. Of course, I went FUCKING APE SHIT and ran right up on stage, quickly yelling my story in Scott's face. Scott nodded, then turned to the crowd: "This guy spent all day driving 300 miles just for this show and wants to hear Say Something, should we play it?". The crowd seemed to agree, and Scott called a band huddle. Was I finally going to get to hear my favorite Dog tune?! Toby stepped up to the mic, said "glad you made it man", and launched into "Worst Trip". Well played, Dr. Dog, well played.
The Dog just kept rolling, asking for more requests, leading to more fruitless yelling for "Say Something". Around midnight, they launched into "Easy Beat" and mid-way through the song, asked if anyone in the audience wanted to play guitar on the track. Sure enough, some dude stepped up, Scott handed him his guitar, and the dude ripped a solo while Scott grabbed a ladder, put it on stage and proceeded to climb it while singing. Only the Dog would bust out the rarely-used mid-show ladder gag. After the band finally cut off the audience guy from any more soloing, the song ended and the guy hugged the band. Scott turned back to the crowd, asking for anymore requests, when a beer was thrown at the audience dude who was just making his way off the stage. Scott was taken aback, asking "is that what you guys do here in Quebec? Throw shit? We're here trying to give you a unique show man, not cool". Scott gave the "throat slash"/show over sign to Slick, they quickly launched into "Oh No", and then got the fuck off the stage.
I can't blame an entire city for the actions of one, but I'm from Toronto anyway, so I can still stay "fuck Montreal" with a clear conscience.
Thanks to the Dog for making what could have been the "worst trip" ever into a night I'll never forget. I feel gutted that if it weren't for that drink thrower, I could have possibly watched the Dog all night. But it was still by FAR the best Dr. Dog show I've ever seen. With Slick, they are on a whole other level, and I'd LOVE to see them in a late-night tent spot.
Really hope Roo books them, because I'd love get another chance to put this sign to use...
I know the Pitchfork Brigade will disagree but Dr. Dog latenight needs to happen.
Just say Dr. Dog late night needs to happen - the "Pitchfork Brigade" bullshit isn't necessary. Most people that don't like The Dog probably also like a lot of records that your blessed Pitchfork does not, I'd bet.

This is the thread in which Juggs responded to a question about how he liked the album with it's Pitchfork score and nothing else. I stand by my post. If you prefer I will call out Juggs, Horn and Nod by name. Is that better?

Don't care. My comment is correct whether you change your post or not.

I'm confused why you care or why it matters. Seems like a bit of a double standard that I can't poke a little fun at a few people who constantly jab me for liking boring music. Have you ever called out them?

Bacon - this isn't about anyone specifically, only my tiring of the Hipster/Pitchfork/Whatever insinuations about people who like different music. If you were joking, great. But it just seemed like another lame shot at people who like different music. I would have posted my comment, literally regardless of who posted it. Unless it was someone who I could tell was making a joke not getting a passive aggressive shot at people like me who happen to read Pitchfork and also happen to not be overly fond of Dr Dog's last album. Again, apologies if this was a joke.
Ps: I thought B Room seemed a little sloppy and rushed. For me it was a step back from Be The Void, which I liked. (Even though Pitchfork hated that one too)
