I saw The Deslondes w/ Spirit Family Reunion and Hurray for the Riff Raff and really enjoyed them. Here's who I really hope show up on the lineup. Sun Kil Moon The Head and the Heart Lord Huron Tune-Yards Neko Case
I'll be shocked if The Head and the Heart don't end up at Newport. But I'm also shocked that Ray LaMontagne didn't schedule his tour so that he could play Newport, so anything could happen
TMoE and First Aid Kit are my two pesto & sundried tomato grilled cheeses. Unfortunately it does not look like either of them will be there. Tallest Man on Earth seems to be taking a break from touring. First Aid Kit would have been an obvious booking given that they're dropping a new album this summer, but it looks like they'll be in Europe during NFF. There is still some hope for First Aid Kit though as there is about a 3 week interval in between European shows during which NFF takes place.

I'm actually a fan of the folk opera Mitchell put out a few years ago. It features a lot of great singers (Justin Vernon comes to mind right away). I'll need to listen to her work with Hamer.
Just looking at last year's schedule and they could technically fit in 3 more bands on Friday and not have to open the gates any earlier or push the performances back any later. In addition, maybe the museum stage acts are being announced separately this year (like 2012) instead of as one big group (like 2013).
So I've been at Wanee, but I heard about Ryan even when camping. YIPPPPEEEEE!!!!!! Sooooo excited. And for Valerie June too. I've gotten into her a bit off of the Mountain Jam lineup, but she'll be early in the day and we all know how hard it is to get to early sets at camping festivals (and Bonnaroo too/especially).
Also, thanks for the heads up about the Passanger tour, k2b Summerstage huh? hmmmmmmm
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Well there's no indication that these guys will be added to the lineup, and we're getting short on schedule space. But for those of you who haven't perused the Bonnaroo additions, I'd definitely give these guys a shot. I really think ilovethisgame (among others) will like this. Their music is definitely catchy enough to be this year's breakout folk act.
Just listened to this. I felt a tingley sensation.. "down there."

Yeah Jamestown Revival's album is one of my top of the year so far and their add to Bonnaroo got me really excited. If Newport gets them too I don't know how my body will react
You guys think Blitzen Trapper might be a possibility? While they're tour doesn't necessarily avoid New England, it doesn't go there either. And they stop in late June, so they're available.

It's a possibility! I hope you are right. They did just play Boston a few weeks ago though (opening for drive by truckers)
Checking up on things since Wanee . . . . If yall had a friend who was planning on going to Newport (let's just call him Mark B) and they had never really heard of Ryan Adams (at all before this thread), or at least not that they know of (a very real possibility), what would be a good starting point? His solo stuff or other projects/bands? Preferably albums or songs that he would likely pull from for a show like this.

I would certainly check out Ashes and Fire since it's his most recent release and is a solid album. One of my favorites is Love Is Hell. His catalog is quite diverse so it's difficult to pin him down by listening to just a few.

Definitely Heartbreaker, which was his debut solo album. That's when I fell in love with him.

whenever I'm trying to get into an artist with an extensive catalogue I find the best things to listen to are their first album and their most recent. It helps that Heartbreaker and Ashes & Fire are both fantastic albums.

Glad you asked. He tends to do two different types of setlists depending on whether he's solo acoustic or with band. I'm not sure which he's doing for NFF, but your best bet for solo stuff are the two albums mentioned - Ashes and Fire and Heartbreaker. Heartbreaker songs he's done every time I've seen him are Come Pick Me Up, Sweet Carolina and Winding Wheel. Not sure if he'll do as many Ashes and Fire songs since he has another new album coming out but that is his latest "sound," and fits with NFF pretty nicely. Best songs on that album are Chains of Love, Invisible Riverside and Dirty Rain.
He is not very fond of his Love is Hell period so he doesn't do many songs from those two anymore (at least he didn't used to). The one he tends to play though, is Please Do Not Let Me Go and if you're lucky he'll play the best song from those albums English Girls Approximately. My favorite solo album though from him (I'm in the minority) is Gold. He'll probably play one or two from Firecracker, NYNY and Rescue Blues. He also does a mean cover of Oasis' Wonderwall. He doesn't often play it, but I was lucky to get it the last time I saw him. If he has a band, he might reach back to the great stuff he did with Whiskeytown and the Cardinals. For Whiskeytown, most of the stuff will likely come from Strangers Almanac (although he still likes to play Jacksonville Skyline off of Pneumonia. For the Cardinals, best album is probably Jacksonville City Nights (The End and Withering Heights are off that). But he's fond of Easy Tiger, which many think is a solo album but it's really a Cardinals album. He will likely play Two and Everybody Knows (those two have been in every setlist I've ever seen from him, band or not).
But Ryan Adams is an odd dude. He could decide to do all covers of his favorite musical genre, heavy metal. Or he might try out a bunch of new songs. You never know with that guy.
Oh and pro tip - do not yell out song requests, he is not a fan. Also, do not yell out Bryan Adams song requests. REALLY not a fan.

I want to know if he's more mature now when it comes to his stage antics. I'm terrified that some drunk will yell "Summer of 69" and he'll walk off stage. He seems to be more put together now with age and the drugs behind him.
Also, I recommend Easy Tiger to your friend. I know many true fans don't put that album near the top of their lists, but I think it's insanely accessible. It is the album that made me really dive into his stuff. It is also him as a folk musician (if your friend is into that; but not saying his other stuff is not folk, something about Easy Tiger just channels it better).

I saw him three times on the Ashes and Fire tour. So January of 2012 I think. And yes I think he is more mature - in fact when jackasses kept yelling songs, he did an ad libbed song about "please yell out songs because when we rehearse and plan these shows we don't think at all about what we're going to play tonight". He was really funny and charming which was very different than some of the earlier shows when he seemed on the edge of walking off stage if everything didn't go right.
Great! Glad to hear! I can only imagine the fallout from a headliner walking off stage.
Also, the full lineup from Xponential. I'd be shocked if at least one of our remaining additions does not come from this list.

I know why you chose Mark B, but it's still a funny choice. At first I thought you were trying to call out k2b "Wait, he totally loves Ryan Adams, what are you talking about?"
