Considering I just watched the Katy Perry movie not even an hour ago, I feel obligated to pick her. Honestly, the girl puts on quite a production; giant projections, a big stage setup, over a dozen costume changes, pyrotechnics, same dancey stuff, and the girl actually sings it big. Sure it's cupcakes and puppies and rainbows, but that's what Bonnaroo is. Just a lot sweatier.

None of y'all would ever go for it.
HA!!!! This made me laugh a lot harder then it should have!
Am I the only one who doesn't get the Beyonce thing?? Seriously... i do not like her.. at all. I'm not saying she can't sing, but her music just... isn't good. She did not have the best music video of all time.... And I think i'd rather punch myself in my lady parts then be forced to watch either katy perry taylor swift or lady gaga... they just annoy me.
I hate Beyonce and I'm truly surprised that so many Inforoosters love her.
I was pretty indifferent toward Beyonce until a few people on here (horn, horn, horn, cks) kept clamoring for her to be a headliner/talking her up. It was like "what am I missing here?" so I started paying closer attention to Bey, watched some live performances (on Palladia and Youtube), read some tour reviews, and I can say now that if I ever get the chance to see her, I'll be throwing down some serious money for a good seat She is the whole package.
I've done that now with quite a few artists here on the board: I didn't understand the "hype" until I either listened more or saw it live (Bjork is another one- not a fan by any means, but saw her this year cause of the inforoo love and really enjoyed the set). Generally, inforoo has some great opinions on music.
Elton and Billy are legendary songwriters and performers. Taylor Swift (not my style) is the only other in the same category but time will tell if she deserves the same mention, to early yet.
The others are acts who have others write for them, and its more about the show then the music.

Someone should tell Beyonce to give back her ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award ...

Let's set the record straight here:
Beyonce - In 2001 she become the first African-American female and second female songwriter to win the Pop Songwriter of the Year award at the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Pop Music Awards. Knowles was the third woman to have writing credits on three number one songs ("Irreplaceable", "Grillz" and "Check on It") in the same year, after Carole King in 1971 and Mariah Carey in 1991. She is tied with American songwriter Diane Warren at third with nine songwriting credits on number-one singles. In May 2011, Billboard magazine listed Knowles at number 17 on their list of the "Top 20 Hot 100 Songwriters", for having co-written eight singles that hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She was one of only three women on that list.
Lady Gaga - wrote or cowrote every song on Artpop.
Madonna - nominated for the Songwriters' Hall of Fame last month.

Gaga started off as a songwriter for others, was hired by record labels to write for artists like Akon. Funny that she was the one penning for others and she certainly writes all of own stuff as well.
I know a few song writers here in Nashville. Writers only. Not performers. It is quite customary for the performer to demand songwriting credit in exchange for recording the song. It's done all the time. They have absolutely no input on writing the song, but get credit on the label. It's the price of doing business.

And other times performers write or co-write songs.

Songwriting isnt the downfall of this list, its the lack of musicians. I always defined "Pop Star" as a vocalist that dosnt play an instrument. Kind of all eyes on her/him with a backing band. How many sets at Bonnaroo have featured artist who dont play instruments(rappers not included)? Bjork? MIA? Grace has the nocturnals and Florence has the machine so at least they give a little love to their bands. Maybe a few acts on the bottom of the lineups im missing in these regards but when has Bonnaroo ever had a "Pop Star" let alone one who will take headliner time?

Delicious Meatball Sub your right. Its easy to get lost in all of Gaga's wacko antics and theatrics, but her roots are very grounded and she has studied and practiced hard to get to where she is from behind the scenes to a whole new scene.
Edit: Best vocalist is way to opinionated of an inforoo question.
I don't think "Pop Star" is defined by songwriting or whether you are recognized as an exceptional musician. Maybe it has to do with "pop"ularity? Anyway Elton and JT are my picks based on personal preference.

Pop stars do play an instrument, one that they spend hours practicing and strengthening, and they also have incredible musicality and an instinctual ear for the notes. The voice is definitely an instrument. Ask Etta James or Billie Holiday or Beyonce...

R. Kelly and Billy Idol are both vocalists who don't play instruments. Both of them have multiple top 10 pop hits, and both played prime spots at Bonnaroo last year. Those are just two major examples from 2013, you could find plenty of other artists that fit your arbitrary criteria if you look over the last few lineups.

Agree to disagree on the vocalist vs. musicians topic. But this was more of a what are the chances that any of these acts play Bonnaroo. Going by the "Bonnaroo does get stand alone, none instrument playing acts" statement there will only be a few off of Juggs list that qualify(R. Kelly, Billy Idol, Lily Allen, Joss Stone). In the grand scheme of things that ammounts to a very small fraction of a chance that most of these popular artist will make the bill.
(excluding Gaga, Elton, Taylor, and Billy) {who wont be their anyway}
