I've heard other Northeasterners express their love for Joel. I don't think I know of any fans of his around here. I really don't think he would be a big draw as a headliner for a major fest.
Regional popularity can be a weird thing. I had never heard of Widespread Panic before I started going to Bonnaroo in 2009, their popularity south of the Mason-Dixon absolutely puzzled me. I still couldn't tell you anything about them or hum any of their songs.
When I was a kid I loved that We Didn't Start The Fire song. I used to hear it on the TV while getting ready for school and get pumped.
Confession time.
Billy Joel was my favorite thing ever in 3rd grade. When my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday I said I wanted Billy Joel to sing, and she jokingly said "Sure, I'll see what I can do". When my party happened and he wasn't there, I locked myself in my room and cried for what seemed like hours then, but was probably about 10 minutes. I was devastated.

That was the only song of Joel's I knew for many years. I Shazamed "You May Be Right" recently. That's a catchy song.

Funny you bring that song up, during this strange elementary school Billy Joel phase, there were two boys in my class who told me to sing that song almost everyday while waiting in line in the lunchroom. I guess I'm just realizing how strange of a child I was...
