Did anybody catch the documentary "Before the Music Dies" that aired at Bonnaroo for a few years? I remember finding this one part about manufacturing a pop star really interesting. Obviously there's a difference between the artists on the poll and a "manufactured" pop artist that needs to use studio cheats and a marketing team to have any sort of impact.
I was reminded about this section of the movie with all the talk of who writes the songs and things like that.
The rest of the movie is really good too. Examines different aspects of the music industry. It may be a little dated in some spots even though it was only released in 2006 but still worth checking out.
Agree to disagree on the vocalist vs. musicians topic. But this was more of a what are the chances that any of these acts play Bonnaroo. Going by the "Bonnaroo does get stand alone, none instrument playing acts" statement there will only be a few off of Juggs list that qualify(R. Kelly, Billy Idol, Lily Allen, Joss Stone). In the grand scheme of things that ammounts to a very small fraction of a chance that most of these popular artist will make the bill.
(excluding Gaga, Elton, Taylor, and Billy) {who wont be their anyway}
Was this an actual response, or just what happens when you drool on your keyboard?

One day all the old white men will be dead white men and Bonnaroo will have to find a new crop of headliners.

As long as they don't just sing we should be fine.
I know a few song writers here in Nashville. Writers only. Not performers. It is quite customary for the performer to demand songwriting credit in exchange for recording the song. It's done all the time. They have absolutely no input on writing the song, but get credit on the label. It's the price of doing business.
And other times performers write or co-write songs.
Agreed. I am sure Madonna used to write her songs. And Beyonce and Lady Gaga write a lot of theirs. It's obvious Taylor Swift writes that drivel herself. And sometimes it is not the artist demanding cowriter credit. It's the label.
I just have never heard of a case where a well known artist has to share credit with a song writer that did not help write the song.

Because there's no sensible reason why that would happen?
Giving a performer a song-writing credit for performing someone else's written works that the writer couldn't perform themselves is nothing like an artist just giving away writing credits for funzies.

I see the logical argument for an artist sharing some of the songwriting credit. An artist's performance may be key to the profitability of the song to the songwriter. If I designed the perfect sex robot, and someone else manufactured it for me, it'd be reasonable to share the profit with manufacturer.
Besides, sometimes the credit is shared in name only and all the proceeds still flow to the songwriter.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
I voted last night, but didn't get a chance to post. I voted JT and Beyonce. JT was a given for me (him and Fallon make me swoon), but I couldn't decide between Beyonce and Gaga for my second vote. I decided on Beyonce because I have already seen Lady Gaga... but after watching Horn's video... I just changed my vote from Bey to Gaga. Seeing Gaga solo on the piano is what earned my respect when I saw her the first time. I'd love to see her again.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
