Am I the only one who would like to go back to the days of Superjam being a complete surprise?
It has been a long time, but I miss the excitement, mystery, and anticipation surrounding a completely blind Superjam. Sure, you have to take a gamble, but Superjam almost always pays off.
Yes and no. In part, I do like the mystery of a secret superjam - but when it's in a prime slot like late-night or a pre-headliner, it's also nice to know enough to make an informed decision. So it's a mixed bag.
I think semi-surprise is the way to go - e.g., ?uestlove and friends gives an idea of the general direction, while still keeping a few juicy secrets 'til the moment (D'Angelo & a murderer's row of session musicians). Or last year, when you knew it was going to be Jim, Oates & Pres. Hall ahead of time, but then you got surprised with Brittany Howard, Billy Idol & R. Kelly.
Now when are they going to have that headlining superjam I've been pining for?
The mystery of Superjam was fun in the old days, but it really had run it's course. It was weak in 2008, didn't happen at all in 2009, and the next two years were so forgettable that I've forgotten them. The last two years The Superjams, (?uestlove and Soul dance party) have been simply amazing. They have definitely found a winning formula.

My original guess was Wayne Coyne, Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss. Don't know about Coyne anymore, but Cinninger NEEDS to be in a Superjam. It's time.
How about Bayliss, Cinninger and Buddy Guy like in this video? I can dream.

I think the mystery Superjam will feature acts already on the lineup or maybe a particular act will curate with special guests and they are still working out details

I feel like Jack White has got to be leading this. I feel like he would really wanna take this project and run with it, especially in the last 2 years established artists have loved doing it.
Really hope they continue the funk/soul/hip-hop/anything groovin' trend. SuperJams are meant to be danced to!
Hate to be a pessimist, but I just do not see Jack White curating a SuperJam. He's too big, both in terms of popularity and in terms of ego. Can't see him putting himself out there in a share-the-spotlight/collaboration/jam type situation. His image has been so carefully curated throughout his career, it'd be a very un-Jack move to let his guard down like he would have to in a SuperJam. Of course, he's made a career of defying expectations, and I'd be as thrilled as anyone if it actually went down. Just not something I'm expecting to see in my lifetime.

I agree. I love JW's music, but he doesn't really seem to me like someone who really knows how to have fun. Last year's superjam was full of smiles and dancing, and Jack kinda just gives off his moody/creepy/eccentric vibe. Plus from what I hear, his live shows are usually pretty cut-and-dry; he plays his hour and a half and that's about it. Doesn't really seem the type to do extended jams or do much crowd-pleasing/throw-em-for-a-loop type stuff.
I wouldn't be surprised if they announce the direction of this superjam when they do artist additions. I would like at least a little bit of an idea what I'm in for, you know?

I get the impression that this isn't booked yet. Assuming they can't get Jack White to do it, I hope they go off the board and have it curated by someone not currently on the lineup.

My first guess is the Superjam would somehow involve Ben Folds as one of the main players. He was part of the BLAM but not on the lineup? That seems odd. Even Weird Al had his own set after hosting BLAM last year. The Lips as well. Superjam or not, Id be surprised if Folds is not somehow a part of the festival this year.

I think there is a 0% chance it is still a mystery by the time you have to make a decision about going or not. I think it just means they dont know right now. Yes, you will always have some surprises like you mention but you will have a good idea of what type of Superjam and will know who is hosting it well before you get to the farm.

There were no Superjams to forgot about in 2010 as it didn't happen that year either!
Not sure if it's been mentioned (I'm sure it has) but Brian Burton is going to be on the farm with Broken Bells, so he'd be cool to have in a superjam since he works with a ton of artists anyway?
The best curator for the superjam, IMO, would be a continuation of Wayne Coyne/FLips set they had this week. They're collaborative enough to bring in a lot of their friends, and Jack White's ego wouldn't get in the way

I got back from BLAM and put my poster in my guys and dolls poster and the title lined up with the word superjam. Guys and Superjam made me think of Off Broadway Superjam. Idk about y'all but I think that would be cool as hell

Jack Whites ego?? White Stripes, Raconteurs (his old buddies), drummer for the Dead Weather, solo act has 2 back up bands of all men and all women. Get a grip, talent isnt always ego. Being a asshole, would be 1 band and constantly firing people.

I'm thinking (and kinda hoping) this will be an R&B/Soul superjam involving, among others, Lionel Richie, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Frank Ocean, and Janelle Monae.

In addition to "all you need is love" on the terror deluxe edition, down at One Big Holiday the FLips covered dear prudence, she's so heavy, and Lucy in the sky with diamonds. It was incredible. If coyne led a superjam, I could see them possibly taking this direction. The live songs were pretty true to the originals, arrangement wise, bit had that freaky flips sound on top.

As I said already, I'd prefer a funky/disco type superjam. But the more realistic direction is the bluesy/rock//soul superjam. If that ends up happening I could def see JW hosting it. If not him then idk who else could that would already be there?
Someone mentioned one involving Janelle Monae, Lionel Richie, & some others. That sounds all well and good but all those people are too big to put on a stage, I'm a tent, at one time.
