I would love to see Modest Mouse on the farm. Bought The Moon and Antarctica on vinyl right before I saw this post... Either it's a sign or I just have a really great new vinyl
Whatever happens, just pray you get Happy Isaac. If he's feeling good it will be one of the best sets you ever see, and if he's feeling like he just doesn't give a shit, which is often, it will alternate between perfectly competent brilliance and absolute head-scratching awfulness.

So what makes Isaac happy?
Pandas....and skittles (rumored) and puppets (I just made that up..along with the aforementioned "rumored" and "pandas")

It's also what can make him unhappy or a total mess. Once as I was waiting to see them I got talking to two dudes who'd seen them the night before. They said he came out two or three hours late and when he did play he was writhing on the ground pulling at his nipple rings. I've seen them three times. One was my first ever concert and perhaps the most euphoric show experience I've ever had. I've seen a not so good show too but love the band and am always down for catching them. Also, my sis used to have an apartment near Isaac's house which borders a park. She was sitting out there and heard a bunch of jamming coming from it which sounded buku good. I am jealous. Here's taste of what could be in store if we get unhappy Isaac:
"Isaac Brock attempted to answer his own "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" query in drastic fashion at a recent Modest Mouse show in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, according to several eyewitness reports. While performing the Moon and Antarctica standout at Ramkota Exhibit Hall on March 18, Brock allegedly began hitting himself in the face with his microphone, then proceeded to draw a knife and cut his own chest.
According to reader Joshua Cole, after deliberately bonking his head, Brock "then walked back to his amp, grabbed a pocket knife, and cut a 12 inch cut across his chest. His assistant had to grab the knife and stop him. He was bleeding the rest of the concert, and later fell off the stage into the barrier before singing in the crowd.""

If they get Modest Mouse, they should totally be late night. Please please please. If this happened I wouldn't care at all about the rest of the lineup.

I think the only way to get Isaac to play seriously is to give them a night time slot. He said in the past he doesn't like playing festivals because of the time restraints and other reasons, but late night Bonnaroo is something different and the late nights usually get decent set lengths.

Bonnaroo seems to be stuck on dancey electronic music and curiosity rock-ish things for late night. It would be nice if they would just have great bands play.

Modest Mouse could even get an hour thirty time slot in the day. Either way I hope they pop up. People are saying that Shaky Knees would prevent them from showing up, I hope not.

Isn't Shaky Knees early May? I saw they were doing Hangout, too.

Yeah, seems like Shaky Knees or Hangout would've blocked the other from getting Modest Mouse. I really hope Modest Mouse shows up, though

I would have to disagree with you. That show does not sound bad at all. Actually, it sounds like the greatest Modest Mouse show of all time. I mean come on.... Hitting his face with the mic, cutting his chest, falling off the stage to follow it up by singing in the crowd.... Sounds pretty fucking awesome!
Here's where I stand on Modest Mouse: pre-Good News, I love everything... I like some of Good News, but practically nothing after. I never got to see them during when I would have been most into them (just after M&A), but I did get fortunate enough to see them in 09 on a very good night, Johnny Marr-free so the setlist was mostly Good News and before. I passed on seeing them multiple times before that because of word of mouth on their shows being either hit or miss, leaning more toward miss at the time... this show I went to was a last minute decision, deciding to get tickets and go the day of. The energy and performance was tops, Isaac was in a great mood, and it was just an over all very memorable show (I think A$AP Rosko was at this one, too, actually). I always said after that I'd go see them again, if they were close and for cheap enough.
But, I haven't kept up with what they've been doing since 2009, so I don't know what setlists have been like, their live reputation, or anything. If they happen to play the same day as Violent Femmes at Shaky Knees, you bet your ass I'm there.
based on what I've heard in this thread so far (and nothing else except I really liked Good News), I feel like Roo would be an ideal place to try and see them... if they're not good, at least I can wander somewhere else & not feel like I wasted money on a concert ticket. And I can just hope that the good vibes on the farm rubs off on the band...

If Bonnaroo gets Modest Mouse I will definitely be at that show. I've wanted to see them for the last 2 years and I don't think I've seen them playing anywhere in my vicinity in that timeframe. (Chicago) Like I saw someone else say... if the show is really that bad, I'll just go see something else. For me, Modest Mouse would be one of my Must-Sees if they appear on the Bonnaroo lineup.
The last time I saw MM play was at a sweat box in Raleigh in early 2009. Still one of the best shows I've ever been to. A friend had called me a few hours before the show and said they had an extra ticket and asked if I wanted to go.(who would turn down a free Modest Mouse ticket) We were literally 3 feet from Isaac during the first half of the show. It was so damn hot in there and I was unbelievably thirsty, but did not want to lose the spot I had by going to the bar to get a $5 bottle of water. Right when they finished "Doin the Cockroach" the drummer picked up a bottle of water and was about to open it when I asked of I could have the water. Almost instantly he tossed the bottle right towards me in a perfect arch. Then all of a sudden some wench grabbed my shoulder and lifted herself up and snatched the bottle out of mid-air like she was catching an interception in the Super Bowl. He looked at me, laughed and shrugged then they started playing "Dashboard". Only five minutes later I found $60 on the floor and finally gave up my spot to get some water.(now that I could afford it!)
All in all, it was a fucking epic show. Would love for them to bring the same energy to the farm.
My first concert ever was Modest Mouse in a gym in Louisville, Ky in 2006. Beyond them being one of my mainstay favorite bands, I thought the set went off pretty well. The air conditioning stopped in the middle of summer, which made it pretty unbearable. Did I mention it was a gym? But they still played the whole time and threw water bottles into the crowd to relieve us. At the time I was so pissed I missed Bonnaroo 2005 because they were there.
Is there real speculation as to them coming to Bonnaroo this summer because if so I might end up doing a solo trip?

I know they have a reputation for bad festival shows, but they really killed it at Coachella last year (weekend 2). I was bummed about not getting Cowboy Dan like the week before but Doin' The Cockroach and This Devil's Workday with Dan Boeckner were beyond awesome
