I've always wanted to go to this fest, but just have never made it for one reason or another. Anyone here ever been, especially last year? Curious what the festival grounds are like since they've moved locations. I see they're offering camping on site this year which is nice.
The first round of lineup announcements are out, with an additional announcement coming soon. Apparently they had to wait for Coachella to announce first for a few artists.
Quite a few artists on this list I'd love to see. I really need my Acid Mothers Temple fix though, haven't seen Kawabata Makoto tear open a portal to the heavens with his guitar in far too long.

There is already a thread dedicated to this years Psych Fest, but to answer your question, I went to the fest last year at Carson Creek. The camping was not so great, but it's sufficient. I had security yelling at me and every other camper to wake up at 8 in the morning on Monday. The party's in those campgrounds go on till early morning. A lot of the acts are camped there. I hung out with the Allah Lahs and Deap Valley and saw Follakzoid and the Growlers around. The campground were in a small pasture with rocks, ants, manure, and not very well cut grass. But really, it's fine and the way to go if you plan on being at shows early and late. It's all very close to the entrance.
As far as the venue goes, they have a stage set up for the smaller acts on the river which makes for a beautiful scene. Then there is the main stage with a pavilion stage next to it. That's about it. The grounds are kind of ugly but you will never have a bad spot for a show. They also do a nice job with art installations. I'd definitely go back. It was a great little fest. If you're thinking of staying at a hotel, I think they will be offering shuttles to the fest this year from downtown.
My bad, I looked, but only saw a thread for last year's Psych Fest.
I didn't realize they offered camping on site last year, was that a last minute addition? On the website, it says "Camp On Festival Grounds This Year!", as if it's the first time they're offering it. I could just be misreading it though.
Or maybe they just moved the camp grounds closer to the action this year?
Either way, still really want to go. It looks like a great time. Especially if some of the artists are camping there too!

The campgrounds couldn't get any closer than they were last year. It was a fest held in different clubs before the last one. Maybe they have the message about camping for those thT may have skipped 2013.

Actually, I'm not seeing one now, so I guess this is it. I remember discussing the lineup for this year on this board, but I guess that was in comparison in one of the other fest threads.
"Several acts playing APF7 can’t be divulged because they’re also playing Coachella, which gets to announce them first. Expect a second wave of Psych Fest acts after Coachella drops its lineup in early 2014."
Anyone care to hazard some guesses on who the crossover artists could be?
They're not listed on the poster with the initial lineup, but they are listed on APF's Official Lineup Page. Guess someone overlooked a name they were supposed to leave off!
I saw Goat play the river stage last year and it was great. I hope they come back.
Oh wow. Did they play last year? I looked at that line-up and must have missed that.
Yeah, as soon as they announced the lineup last year, I tried to book them before they announced surrounding dates tour and I was too late. Chicago path'd

I'm really glad that Primal Scream and LoOp have announced tour dates near me, but I'd love to go to this fest. Such a great line-up and it'd be even better if they do end up announcing Goat!

Primal Scream cancelled a number of their Spring tour dates including dates around this fest... Very nervous about the rest of their tour, I've been waiting nearly ten years to see them and would be so bummed out if they cancelled.

I have checked their website several times, and it looks like it is still set. I would be pretty bummed as well if they cancelled, but I wonder if the cancellations were to accommodate other festival gigs.
I started attending this fetival at round 2 and it has been very cool to watch it grow. I loved being at the ranch last year. I recommend getting into town on Thursday for the Pre-Fest shows. Being able to finally see Rain Parade was a highlight for me last year.

Looks like I am very wrong according to the PS website. All dates are gone. Bummed.......

I really wish I could go to this. My wife and I saw the Black Angels last night in Cleveland, and they really are on top of their game. They also seem to be real down to earth. After last night's show, a couple of the guys showed up at the after party at a tavern connected to the venue and danced to some old school soul 45s.
"The Reverberation Appreciation Society confirms a second wave of acts performing at the seventh annual Austin Psych Fest May 2-4 at Carson Creek Ranch. Headliner Primal Scream has fallen off the bill following news last week that the Scottish rockers canceled their U.S. tour.
"The cancellation of a top-billed artist is quite a blow for a small independent festival like Austin Psych Fest," admits festival organizer Rob Fitzpatrick. "While we did our best to try and keep them on the bill after the tour got scrapped, the band couldn't make it work."
In their place, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, which headlined Psych Fest two years ago, and Dandy Warhols, the former act's co-stars in essential rock doc Dig! This second vetting, which comes in the wake of the APF's initial Dec. 4 announcement, heralds the return of Nigerian guitar slinger Bombino, who pairs nicely with fellow Saharan desert rockers Terakaft.
Other notables joining previously announced psych festers Loop, the Zombies, the Horrors, Of Montreal, Black Lips, and Black Angels include garage-pop idol Mikal Cronin, Swedish retro-metallers Graveyard, and TV on the Radio side project Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band. The Octopus Project leads a list of new locals: Pure X, Holy Wave, Roger Sellers, and Mirror Travel. Other new additions include Temples, Night Beats, Warlocks, Peaking Lights, Pink Mountaintops, the Fresh & Onlys, Bardo Pond, Asteroid #4, Sleepy Sun, Cosmonauts, Indian Jewelry, Elephant Stone, Golden Animals, Morgan Delt, Mark McGuire, Secret Colours, Doug Tuttle, and Les Big Byrd. "We know it will be the best year yet," enthuses Fitzpatrick, "regardless of this bump in the road."
So Primal Scream is officially out. But the additions look very nice. I'd love to see Mark McGuire.

I figured Primal Scream was going to cancel. I was hoping for better replacements, though. Solid adds otherwise. And I am beyond thrilled that I might finally get a chance to see Liars.
Holy fucking shit, they added Panda Bear too? There's no way I'm missing this now, the additions of Panda Bear and Mark McGuire put it over the top for me. Bombino's a great pick up too, his set at 'roo last year was fire.
I thought seeing a Panda Bear set was a dream, that's going to come true apparently :)The thought of Avey Tare and Panda on stage jamming is giving me wood right now...
Oh ya, I'm shocked at how low Mark McGuire is billed. Roger Sellers is a good local artist too, saw him open for Ghostland Observatory one time.
Hey, Rothric. I've been in touch with the Mohawk in Austin about tickets for the Men. They were saying that the had to take them down until a big announcement was made. If you haven't seen it yet, Cloud Nothings and Nude Beach were added to the bill. Tickets go back on sale Friday.
