Do you say that just because Roo often makes odd scheduling decisions, or is there another reason?
Because bonnaroo and many of it's fans love avett brothers.
Avetts are also two higher on the lineup and have played every suitable spot but pre-headliner. This is the year they get the bump.
You're right; I didn't realize that 2012's show was pre-pre-HL.
And itrainmonkeys do you really think it'll impact the schedule that much? I'm thinking that they'll put some pretty low-tier acts on there for short sets, basically like a LN Sonic Stage.

I agree. The way they described it in the article made it sound more like additional smaller sets by some low to mid-tier acts. I suppose you could guess who those would be, but doubt it will impact the overall schedule.

I don't think it dramatically changes anything but there may be some acts that get booked there that people were expecting in a tent or something. Definitely think it's just lower-tier acts but it may change a few expectations.
I want kpowers' mock to be true so bad, but I just can't believe Pusha T>James Blake on Thursday. But, damn it would free up so much room for activities.
strangely relieved Umphreys isn't getting LN, as I just knew they would conflict with someone else I wanted to see LN. During the day I'm thinking will be an easier decision.

Could they be putting Umphrey's McGee on during Kanye? Sort of like Public Enemy playing during Phish? Maybe they start before Kanye but anyone who isn't interested can go catch Umphrey's set?
I'm trying to think of a slot that they would be excited to play but that wouldn't be a late night. I can't imagine them on the What stage and they've done the Which stage during the day before (I think).
Yeah, what with that new Red Bull stage thing I'm abandoning my mock. I feel like they're changing things up this year and the schedule will not be a cut and paste of 2012/2013's time slots.

Maybe they tried it out last year with PHJB and saw how well it worked out. I've seen Jack Johnson before and it was so crowded by the time he started we all went to rest for late nights and posted up to listen to Pres Hall. I remember there were SO MANY people walking around during Jack's set that Bonnaroo should do that again.

I'm not against having a single completely different artist at one of the tents during the headliner. Last year proved Bonnaroo has at least considered the idea as well.
I know unopposed headliners are Bonnaroo's standard way of doing things, but if it keeps the Kanye haters enjoying music elsewhere I'm all for it.

Annnnnnd ITT immediately destroys my enjoyment of the possibility of a conflict free umph set.
This would be a really good idea, even if it would be awful for my purposes. This way umph could play a tent for 2-2.5 hours. But I'd be at Kanye.
Now, book them during Jack White, and I'd probably choose Umphreys.
This is all kind of ridiculous considering I'm seeing Umphreys twice next week.
Umphrey's would be a waste in any daytime slot, but closing a tent and playing against kanye's show would be the best possible alternative. Roo may be going the Coach route and moving away from unopposed headliners.

They've done it in recent years but usually it's just one tent and maybe some cafe stuff going on. I don't think I'd want all the tents in action at once but I wouldn't mind having more than one option if the headliner is someone I don't care for.

I'm thinking one tent and one tent only. As long as the performer in the tent is incredibly different than whose headlining. Umphrey's against kanye would work. How about Jack gets opposed by Wiz Khalifa in a tent? The thing that scares me though is that Roo has been known to schedule similar acts at the same time.

Now you all stop with this Umph vs. Kanye business. I don't like to shed tears at work.
Truth. Plus it would probably be better to put somebody more hetty-jammy and less prog metal-jammy during Kanye, to assuage the roots bonnaroo fans who are offended by Kanye's lateness.
So 'Roo needs to book "Kind Mountain Breeze Project". They do covers of entire historic Zen Tricksters shows, with a psychedelic bluegrass twist. That should keep the Yeezy haters happy.

I wouldn't call Umphrey's Prog metal-jammy. Some of us just want options for when there's a headliner we find boring/uninteresting.

Kanye vs Umph would be a tragedy for me personally.
My reasoning for putting the Avetts early in the day sunday actually had to do with the Bluegrass Superjam. We know the Bluegrass Situation is sunday night and it will conflict with a lot - I think it'd be a pretty obvious misfire to have the Avetts and Bluegrass Situation at the same time.

Oh I'm all for opposing sets during headliners, I just don't want to have to choose between UM and Kanye.
I do like jambands, don't get me wrong, I just like to poke fun at them. And while Umphreys is definitely in that jamband scene, I personally consider them improvisational prog rock with metal and EDM undertones.

This happened somewhat inadvertently in 2011 when the world music tent ran late. Instead of Bootsy Collins overlapping with the first half hour of Black Key's set, they were pretty much playing at the same time. It was a great alternative to the clusterfuc.k that was Black Keys.
If I was UM, I certainly wouldn't be thrilled with that slot. Also, wasn't ALO a last-minute add after the schedule was released? EDIT: They were part of the artist additions, not Jack Johnson add. Nevermind.
I don't think it would happen either, but suppose they made UM pretty much unopposed...that might satisfy those lamenting the departure from Roo's jam roots, and it would give Umph a pretty big audience. However, Capps said they wouldn't be opening the Which this year on Thursday, and there's no way all of Bonnaroo is going to try and watch a tent show at once, so I'd say it's not happening.
The thought of UM shutting it down on Thursday is both exciting and exhausting. I feel like I always, for whatever reason, crash around midnight or 1 a.m. Thursday. I'm always good to see the sunrise on Friday and Saturday night but man, Thursday can really take it out of me.

It's a cool idea but I don't see Umphrey's happening on Thursday night. I'm thinking a long midday What Stage would be a logical next step for the Umph.

I'm inclined to agree. Plus they said no late night and I think Thursday night still counts as late night to be honest. Who's going to say, "Oh no, we're not playing late night. We're playing at 2 a.m. Thursday night! See, that doesn't count."
So yeah, tent closer, mid-day what, or evening on which(maybe second behind which closer) are the only three places I can see them.
