@foxandhound Alright hears another perspective. I can only go to one festival except for small local fest. I saw all these bands come out on lineups already about 6 weeks ago and said "man, I really wanna see _______(Darkside, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, Classixxx, etc etc) but thought, "no way Roo gets half of these, they'll get Widespread Panic or something". Now imagine my excitement at this lineup considering im not headed to Wakarusa, or Summmer Camp, or Coach. The happiness I have found when instead of getting the same old acts that have religiously graced the farm every other year, they decided to do something completely different. Not only am I excited for this year, but where this year is taking the direction of the festival as a whole.
Also if you say its the best since 08 and are still complaining, you set a high bar, dont know what you want in life, or are just technologically and musically spoiled,
What do you guys think this funkiest dancer thing is? It's billed too high to just be some contest right?
I wouldnt get too excited. Remember the year (2010?) where "Gary Chardonnay" was listed like 18th overall? Bonnaroo is just kind of corny like that, im sure its just a joke.
Yeah, I want thinking outrageous. Maybe something like Galactic playing the music for the contest.

You must have missed the part of the post where I say "maybe I'm just burnt out on festivals" and "If this was my only fest, I'd be ecstatic." I completely get that point of view, and I get why people are excited for this lineup.
Just to build on this, I think that I need to start trying for some Euro fests like Primavera and Glasto, just because they offer a diversity and unique choices that I simply dont think youll see at the bigger US festivals. Im putting this squarely on me, hombre.

I slept on it. Such a solid lineup. Top to bottom. Can't wait to see what more acts and comedy are added. The top 20 is astounding and I can't even believe the undercard. That being said I will not be attending this year.
I just went through the lineup and made a list of the bands I would love to see with only prior knowledge as a reference. I easily got to 40. This lineup, you guys.
I'm sure I'm going to get slammed for this but the more I look at the lineup, the less blown away I am. Dont get me wrong, there are loads of great acts...and maybe im just burnt out on festivals, but this lineup is basically just a collection of acts that have either been at every fest over the past two years, or will be everywhere this year. With few exceptions, I feel like almost all of the acts on here that I would want to see are acts that I already have seen, or will see elsewhere. If this was my only festival this year, or maybe the only festival i was attending for the last couple of years, id be ecstatic. I think that has more to do with the number of fests out there these days, as there are only so many acts to go around. But outside of the superjams and a couple of acts here and there, its kind of uninspired to me.
Im sure that ill have a blast, because the late nights are always great and hopefully the schedule lines up nicely, but i was hoping for some new stuff. Easily the best lineup they've had since 2008 or so though, a great collection of talent. Very little filler.
This is how it is for me. If I hadn't seen Kanye on his tour, I would feel like I needed to be there, but between Coachella and GB I'm seeing pretty much all the acts I want to see on the festival circuit.
It's a really good lineup, but I don't feel bad missing it, if that makes sense.
I had an interesting conversation with the tour manager for The Hold Steady earlier this month, and broached this topic from a different light. His peeve was the consolidation of Festival Promoters, which was/is leading to monopolies. With the number of promoters shrinking, and new fests popping up, they are locking in performers for multiple fests. We discussed it for probably twenty minutes, and it was sadly enlightening.
Bonnaroo 2008-2013
0ct 11 Pearl Jam
Oct 12 Pearl Jam
March 16 Arcade Fire
April 29 Arcade Fire
Sept 4 Wilco
Sept 9 The Hold Steady
Oct 16 Pearl Jam
Oct 17 Gaslight Anthem

If I wasnt already going to Governor's Ball, this Roo lineup would be amazing to me. But the lineups are just too similar to get me to travel 900 miles to the farm this year.
Finally can post. After the Euphoria of seeing Cut Copy on the line up, wore off last night. I began to realize just how deep this line up is. I do agree with what a lot of you are saying, there is definitely an over saturation of festivals, so you see a TON of repeat acts that are on other fests. But i mean come on, i think there is at LEAST 2 names on every line that i am excited to see or have interest in seeing. If i was only going to one fest, i definitely think Roo would be it, because of just how many of these 2nd tier bands they have. Not to mention the uniqueness of the headliners this year. Personally I think this is the best line up since i started attending.
On a second note, the people that are legit like flipping out over line up positioning and Kanye and everything is outrageous. Again, i get you don't want to see a name on the line up, but it's a fucking 4 day festival, with 130+ acts, there are tons of things going on non stop, just stop complaining, focus on what you like, and skip what you don't. It's infuriating to see the same post after another, of 'Fuck KAnye' and 'how can they', like fucking AC/Superfly personally betrayed them. As if AC/Surperfly were thinking, "you know what, what can piss off and alienate out entire crowd." They booked a man based on his music greatness and how the man puts on and performs a show, they don't book people based on how the fuck they act in the tabloids. I fucking can't STAND kanye outside of his music, he rightfully comes off as an egotistical prick. But literally someone has to say they're the greatest in their profession, in order for everyone to step up and challenge him, in a way he is making everyone else take notice and be better. The people who legit think they can stage some coup and make 80K people desert the what stage field are delusional. The man will put on a show every bit deserving of his headliner spot, whether you all attend it or not makes no difference to him, and makes no difference to Bonnaroo.
On a side note: did i mention i was excited for Cut/Copy?

I don't know why they put in all that stuff about Julian, but last year there was some pushback on Daniel Tosh making a wiseass and tasteless remark about The Postal Service in the lineup video. I heard that was almost edited out, hardly nothing ever goes out publicly without being closely scrutinized.
I just went through the lineup and made a list of the bands I would love to see with only prior knowledge as a reference. I easily got to 40. This lineup, you guys.
Yeah, I got to about 45 before I just gave up on seeing half of them and cried myself to sleep.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
Pretty fun! Met Black Dynamite, and got a shirt and flyer. Also they were giving away free beer until they ran out. On the negative side, it was a little annoying when people legit Booed Kanye's name being shown? completely not necessary, so i decided to yell "accept yeezus in your heart" to out obnoxious the obnoxious. And unfortunately they had the BLAM playing on a projector and the sound wasn't synced up, so that got frustrating to watch. I had a good time though. i liked that they did it this way.

To make matters worse, of those 40, only 7 are acts I've seen before. It's going to break my little heart.

pretty sure he's just mad that AC tweeted that the Strokes would be there and then they had the Julian impression but the Strokes (or Julian) aren't on the lineup.

I think I've seen 13 of mine, but some of those I won't compromise on. There are certain bands, like Portugal. The Man who I have seen 10 times and still pass up shows I am psyched about to check them out.
This will probably be its own thread at some point, but, I've seen the following and will almost definitely see them again:
White Denim Typhoon Arctic Monkeys Fits & the Tantrums Ty Segall

That Rolling Stone article also says that Jack White previously played Bonnaroo with The White Stripes and The Dead Weather. Wasn't it The Raconteurs instead of The Dead Weather? It's like they put the bare minimum of effort into it.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm kind of wrong. All 3 have played, but they only mentioned 2. We're both stupid, I suppose.

He has played Bonnaroo with all three of those groups.

Dead Weather played in 2010.
Ah. I stand corrected. Still, they didn't mention The Raconteurs, which is pretty lazy on their part.
