Kishi Bashi just added a show in Atlanta on June 11th. I really hope he's one of the additions because I'll be on the way to Manchester by the time he takes the stage!
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

As a society, can we quit inventing "new" music genres? Its pretty quacking dumb to have to come up with one every time a new band makes it on the scene. Can we just call it good music or bad music and leave it alone?

I don't know man. What if you're in the mood for some chillwave but accidentally turn on some dream pop because everyone is trying to avoid labels? That could straight fuck up your whole day.

Wait. Did you make those up? [sarcastic font] Bc chill wave sounds like something I'd totally be in to. [/sarcastic font]

[real talk]I used to think the same thing, but you might be surprised[/real talk]
I would say overall Sam Smith has little to do with EDM. Most of what he does would be singer/songwriter. His vocals have been featured in EDM songs and I have heard a few Sam Smith remixes to some songs, but the bulk of songs I have listened to by him lean towards singer/songwriter with an occasional nod to electronic music. I feel like most of his set will be singer/songwriter based. But yeah, I agree with your post, there is a lot of EDM or close to it this year.
My bad on SS. I'd agree with you on that...but for humor sake and how this discussion has crumbled into a battle of semantics, his music has some electronic sounds, and those sounds make me dance. Bingo Bango...EDM.
Hahaha I definitely didn't mean to add to the battle of semantics! I just recently started getting into Sam Smith's music, so I got a little intense for a second about responding.
Late to the party, but I'm agreeing with Phi on this, James Blake is IDM
I have to disagree, mainly based on his new album. It is pretty much an r&b album made by an electronic producer. I really enjoy the album, but there is nothing about it that makes me want to DANCE.
Edit: Unless the D in IDM isn't meant for dancing?

Other than life round here I can't think of any song on that albums that makes me want to dance.

Intellectually demanding music? Internationally developed music?

I really hope Chancellor Warhol is added. He dropped his new album today, Paris Is Burning, and it's on Spotify and iTunes. Saw this guy three years ago at Next Big Nashville, aka Soundland, and placed all my bets on him to make it big. Solid every time I've heard something he rapped on and even in interviews.
"Intelligent Dance Music" Basically dance music with depth lyrically or conceptually.. Think Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, even Atoms for Peace
I've yet to meet anyone who uses the term "IDM" in non-ironic fashion who isn't a humourless, self-important twat. Especially galling as most people who prattle on about "intelligent" dance music don't have a lick of intelligence in them.
per wiki: "Usage of the term "intelligent dance music" has been criticised by electronic musicians such as Aphex Twin as derogatory towards other styles and is seen by artists such as Mike Paradinas as being particular to the U.S."

Let's not bust Phi's balls for using "IDM", he was still listening to Swedish House Mafia about a year ago and thought they used a live drum machine for their "show"
