Question about this concert. I really enjoy Darkside and listen to Psychic a lot. But at their concerts, do people like dance? Just stand and bob their head? Sit and just tune out? I find this music to be kinda chill and cool to just close your eyes to and lose thought. Everyone says live they're way better, how do the crowds normally act?
At their MOEMS set, people danced. I definitely did. Just not a frantic type of dance, obviously. But way more than just a head bob.
EDIT: I was also guilty of several "whoops!" and "yeahs!". Man, y'all. Can't wait.

I do the whooping a yeahing as well. When i really enjoy something the artist is doing i want them to know it. I understand a concert like Darkside, where the music isn't super high energy it may seem out of place, but if i were an artist, doing my thang i'd like to know what the crowd is enjoying.

There will be moments in their live show where you won't be able to hold back. Promise.

The guitarist is no Gilmour but that live video in the OP has piqued my interest. I'll have to check these guys out, reminds me of Simian Mobile Disco when the guitar isn't at the forefront.

I danced and shimmied like an idiot in the front row when they came to ATL a few weeks ago. Couldn't help it. The whole crowd seemed to really be feelin it too. The infinite mirror wormhole thing that they have really ties the room together.

Yes please.
I would like this in my room to kinda chill too, while I would like pretty lights setup from last year in my living room for the party.

Wow, that is an amazing effect! With the knowledge that people shimmy and dance, hootin and hollerin and this awesome video, it's pretty safe to say darkside has shot up my list of must sees.
When I saw them in Austin, the crowd was definitely getting down to the grooves. Obviously as you got further back, you had the more people just absorbing the music. And yes, you definitely won't be able to hold back a few yells of excitement/ecstasy.
Unless Darkside is conflicting against your #1 act of the weekend, BE AT THIS SHOW.

The boiler room video just convinced me to add these guys to my list of bands I need to see.
Shit man... usually before bonnaroo I spend a bunch of time researching all the bands I don't know to make new discoveries... this year there's so much stuff I love I'm almost scared to find new bands I'll love because it'll just give me more conflict anxiety.
Really digging these guys though, right up my alley- and you guys are right, they seem to translate live much better than on album
That Boiler Room set is great, it's what first got me into them. Having said that, they are much better right now then they are on that video. Guess they've just had time to really gel together. All I know is they're creating magic up on the stage right now.
If these guys are during the day it would be a bigger travesty than Fourtet and SBTRKT combined. The light show is such an integral part of the experience that doing a day set would be straight up offensive.

Agreed. I'm betting on a Thursday closer. Same spot The xx had in 2010.
to me, it would make sense. it seems as though they are still pretty unknown to the general public. when I saw them in minneapolis a few weeks back, first ave was literally giving tickets away (more than the usual one-time giveaway contest) - source: I got tickets, as did two other friends.
I would have gone anyway, and the show was fantastic, but I think their live appeal really helps them explode. thursday would be perfect for pushing them full throttle.
I would be curious to know how their current tour is selling across the country. When I saw them in Austin, it was a decent crowd (maybe 500ish?), but I'd normally expect an act like Darkside to sell out in Austin. However, Disclosure was playing that same night, so I'd imagine that drew away a decent number of the potential crowd. I would have loved to have seen Disclosure too, but I had to make a tough choice!

I completely agree. I saw them at the cavernously black First Ave in Minneapolis and that spinning, ovular mirror and lighting effects show they have fits the spirit of the music so quacking well. Having their show any time before the sun sets would make the atmosphere MUCH different.

That is a sweet picture, and first ave is awesome. i need to get more into these guys. that is all

I had to choose between Darkside or Mutual Benefit on a weeknight in DC recently. Went to Mutual Benefit (who were great; no regrets) mostly because it was less expensive. Glad that DARKSIDE showed up on this bill so that I can catch them live now. One of the members of Mutual Benefit wore a Darkside t-shirt at their gig.
