I'll be honest, I did love Psychic before MOEMS. But it didn't become my favorite album of 2013 until after I saw them live. Changed everything for me.
Also, that pitchfork video doesn't do their live show justice.

This is one of my most anticipated sets of the year. Psychic was definitely one of the tops of the year for me as well and I have never see then live. I really hope they get late night but we'll see.
I also have this crazy dream where Nicolas Jaar does a silent disco set and plays something similar to this.
I agree on the night slot, but honestly I'd hope for a Thursday night closer. I'd be afraid they'd conflict with something brutal if they had a LN slot on Friday or Saturday.

that's what I'm pulling for as well!
to me, it would make sense. it seems as though they are still pretty unknown to the general public. when I saw them in minneapolis a few weeks back, first ave was literally giving tickets away (more than the usual one-time giveaway contest) - source: I got tickets, as did two other friends.
I would have gone anyway, and the show was fantastic, but I think their live appeal really helps them explode. thursday would be perfect for pushing them full throttle.

I would be curious to know how their current tour is selling across the country. When I saw them in Austin, it was a decent crowd (maybe 500ish?), but I'd normally expect an act like Darkside to sell out in Austin. However, Disclosure was playing that same night, so I'd imagine that drew away a decent number of the potential crowd. I would have loved to have seen Disclosure too, but I had to make a tough choice!

agreed! their show was one of the emptier shows I've seen at first ave. I was actually surprised they were playing that large of a venue. but the entirety of the crowd seemed to love it just as much as I did.
having to choose between disclosure and darkside is just plain mean.

Very nice, got a good laugh out of me
It really is amazing how many shows are going on in Austin any given night. I lived there for a year and a half for school and loved it.
Now only if I still lived in Austin, and didn't have to drive 1.5 hours to get there. Everyone skips San Antonio (except Deafheaven, thank you!) and goes to Austin instead. I still get to see lots of good shows, just have to make a longer drive. Oh well, #sanantonioproblems
I'm in a small town in southwest Virginia. Any good show is about a 3 hour drive for me. I wish I had tough choices to make on any given night. The music scene is Austin is amazing right now.

I so wish we had a good quality video of their MOEMS show.
The show did make it into a roundup article by Bob Boilen of NPR, though
Darkside – This is a duo featuring Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, with electronics and guitar. This music seemingly takes inspiration from early '70s Pink Floyd. Think "One of These Days" from Meddle. There are refreshingly undistorted staccato guitar lines and just incredible walls of sound that build a sonic storyline. This was also one of the few electronic music shows that didn't incorporate visuals. But honestly there was so much going on sound-wise, I was happy to not be distracted.
Easily one of my top 5 shows to see this year. Psychic was my no. 2 of 2013, behind Deerhunter. So amazing. I've been scouring the webz looking for the nearest show, but that's all done now that I'm going to Roo.

Eh, I was gonna share the one vid I have of them from MOEMS, but changed my mind (the vid is decent but really doesn't do them justice). They need to play at night, absolutely. Their stage set-up at MOEMS was ideal: two brilliantly simple white lights shining down onto an eerily dark stage, letting the music really resonate through. This would be my most anticipated show at Roo, for sure, if scheduled at the right time. (Bjork!)

I don't have anything fancy to add to this thread but I didn't fully appreciate them until I saw them at MOEMS. Have to be experienced live! Can't wait to see them again!

May not be fancy, but I bet there are a lot of people like you. THEY NEED TO KNOW.
Question about this concert. I really enjoy Darkside and listen to Psychic a lot. But at their concerts, do people like dance? Just stand and bob their head? Sit and just tune out? I find this music to be kinda chill and cool to just close your eyes to and lose thought. Everyone says live they're way better, how do the crowds normally act?

I've been watching some of their live performances on Youtube, and I'm all in on these guys, too! That Boiler Room set has me really excited to see them on the farm.
