Why would I feel any shame in going back to my tent at 330 am after Darkside as opposed to suffering through Kaskade?
You shouldnt. Thats why I wished you to have fun doing that or whatever you had planned. I had Zedd planned and Darkside stepped in. Due to the fact that A) Zedd will be playing for a long time. Hes a young DJ and you can hear the songs at any EDM artist show. B) Who knows if Darkside will stay together, play the Philly area again soon, etc., and the straw that broke the camels back C) Its was either Flaming Lips > Darkside on the red pill or Skrillz Superjam > Zedd on the blue pill.
Well it seems he doesn't like EDM so nobody should go see it, duh. I plan on Skrill Superjam then Darkside.
I like plenty of "EDM," which is a terrible catchall term.
I just dont like shitty cheesy poppy "EDM" like Kaskade and Zedd.
Agreed that EMD is a dumb name, but that's what it's become nowadays. I could care less what we call it, but it seems like Kaskade and Zedd are some of the more "real" dj's as they do make a lot of songs and play more songs in their own sets, vs. categories like trap artists, where they all play the same songs in different orders. Zedd has done a lot of acoustic performances on late night tv and is actually a talented writer/producer. Just my two cents, not that I know a ton about it or anything.

I'm seeing Kaskade in an intimate Tampa venue in May where he will play deep house, that should be great. Definitely want to catch DARKSIDE but not too sure who to check out afterward.
I don't mind Zedd at all, I think he writes pretty catchy music that doesn't use the more obnoxious production techniques that puts me off some EDM. Darkside is definitely the way to go as far as I'm concerned, though. Chromeo -> Cut Copy -> Flaming Lips -> Darkside is freaking amazing, especially for certain people who like to see concerts in a certain way at Roo. Nom sayin.
I saw Kaskade at Free Fest. It was meh. The music itself was OK...but the crowd made it difficult to bear. Teeny-boppers everywhere.
Im not a big fan, I would just assume Kaskade will play longer due to the fact that he starts later then Zedd, so for the purpose of catching all I can, im just going to head straight there. Also Zedd is on my chance to play Made In America list so not really a priority. After Flips > Darkside im sure ill attend Kaskade more for the atmosphere at the Which rather than jamming into an already packed tent.

At least once every day for the past 6 months, I spontaneously just started singing or humming the melody of "Paper Trails on a mountain" out loud in that funky Nicholas Jaar voice. Sometimes by myself. Sometimes with people around who have no clue what I'm talking about. And I don't care.
EDM's a fine term y'all, come up with something better why don'tcha
electronica's long and sounds dumb
dance's too general
subgenres (house, trance, dubstep etc) too specific for basic purposes
EDM works
live with it
This.
And I would add:
Dance was the category in the early 90's when there were CD stores, and when groups like La Bouche were around. Compilations were all 'Dance' mixes.
Back in the day everybody had a fucking cow when one of the 'uninitiated' called it 'techno', so quick to point out that was actually a very specific sub-genre. A fact that the recipient of this tongue-lashing rarely gave two shits about.
If ya got something better and more succinct than EDM I'm all ears.

This has to be the first time anyone has ever mentioned La Bouche on this board and it was well over due.

It would be cool if they went over their time, but I wouldn't schedule around that expectation. They just have the one album and while their live show varies from it a bit, they don't have a history of electronically noodling it out for hours on end.

Yeah unfortunately I don't think Darkside will go over but it will be an awesome set. I can't "UNCE" all night unless substances are involved so I'm hoping Chance goes for the moon and has at least a few guests and does some covers.

It is cool though that hopefully they will do an hour. The two sets from pitchfork and coachella are both around 45 min so even a little bit more is awesome!

Typically I want the late late night slot to be reserved for someone who can go till sunrise. But knowing this spot is going to Darkside has me so un-freaking-believably excited. I really can't imagine a better act for finishing out a long, exhausting day. Honestly, I have come home after a long, hard day of day-drinking and passed out to their album more times than I care to admit.
I just want to stand there and move a little bit and hear some amazing spacey, dark, weird, amazingness then go curl up in my tent and call it an awesome day.

They streamed one of their concerts in France about a month ago, and it was around an hour and 15 mins. It was also the best recording I have heard of them. Expanded intros and more of just what kinda seemed like jamming. I distinctly remember the first song built up for about 10 minutes before it really got going. It was up on youtube about a week ago, but I haven't been able to find it, so they most likely took it down. Live @ Stereolux if anybody is curious, I sure there are some audio recordings still out there. Anyways, I'm thinking that is the kinda set we get LN at Roo, which is just going to be so deliciously dark. I can't friggin wait!!
La Blogothèque is streaming Darkside's show tonight in Nantes, France at 4:30 pm EST.
Oh Yeah. I forgot it was already in this thread. Not the best video stream, but the audio is perfecto. 82 mins long, and ABSOLUTELY QUACKING AMAZING!!!

Actually, EDM doesn't work because there's a huge section of Techno (yes, the best generic term) that no sane person would ever dance to. Calling all techno "Electronic Dance Music" makes absolutely no sense.

Confession: Whenever I go to a bar that has a digital jukebox, I put La Bouche on over and over and over again. The look on people's faces the 5th time Be My Lover comes on is delightful.

I listen to a lot of Boiler Room sets, BBC essential mixes, etc., and never once have I heard any of the artists, djs or introducers use the term EDM.
It's fine just referring to stuff that makes you dance as "dance" music. Then using the more genre specific terms i.e house, ambient, jungle, etc.
