I danced the whole time. I was having the greatest closed eye visuals. I just shut my eye lids for most of the show and grooved along dancing with my pole of lights.
One of the most fascinating things I have ever been a part of. This was one of those shows that make you feel like time does not exist.
No kidding. Did it really take 30 minutes to get through two songs?
I don't really think about their set in terms of "songs," per se. It's more like one collective, glorious experience where everything just fits together perfectly.
But if you look at it that way, yeah, that's probably about how long it was.
loved the show. i do wish the crowd was more energetic though. i was maybe 10 rows back from the front and it seemed like my group was the only one dancing. maybe i was just quacked. who knows.
Dancing was definitely light but so was attendance. I was back by the sound board for most of the set - there's was tons of room and not as much dancing as I hoped for.
I think the reason for this is because of how subtle their sound is relative to other 'electronic' acts. They are world's away from the typical bass drop sound being featured on the other side of the farm at that time and unless you knew their music, I don't think it resonated with enough people to keep their interest.
All that said, they fucking killed it. I was blown away by their set and that fucking circle thing totally reminded me of the 'portal' from Donnie Darko. I was on another plane man, and it only took booze and herb to get me there.

I was on another plane man, and it only took booze and herbSpicy Pie and a third row spot to get me there. Not sure if three days of minimal sleep had an active affect on the evening or not.

Each song took about 20 minutes. Stretched out to blissful extremes! If I remember right it went: Freak Go Home-Paper Trails-The Only Shrine I've Seen-Heart-Metatron-Golden Arrow
I think they might've mashed in A1 in there somewhere too.
I was about four or five rows back center and everyone was going crazy where I was. Dancing like mad.

Hopping on the best show love train as well. Good freaking lord this was amazing. The music gave me such incredible energy that I was able to dance for what felt like forever. My friend bailed after about 5 or 10 minutes and I hate to say it but it was kind of better that way. We wouldn't have talked much.
I wish I had studied the My Mug thread harder before the weekend. I walked right up to the thirdish row and it sounds like everyone else did too.

Yep. Third row, stage right, had spicy pie in tow before the show started. Had we only been able to wear Inforoo shorts...*sigh*
one of the best shows ive ever seen! my friend also wasnt feeling it and ventured off to kaskade - there was no chance in hell i was doing the same. completely mesmerized by their sound and the lights/mirror!
Also, I'm not sure why I handed CKS and CPK glowsticks and firework glasses instead of saying hello. I don't know if I was capable of talking at that point.
Hah! I thought that was you, but only after you were too far away did it click
The only video I've found on Youtube. Filmed terribly, sounds incredible.
I'm not taking this personally, but yeah that was me. I agree it is bad, which is why I didn't post it. I was not sober at all, at the time.
I wanted to capture some of it for myself. I have a friend who moderately likes the album but not a ton. I wanted to use this to convince him to come see Darkside with me. More for the audio. I don't even remember turning the camera. So yeah, worth a listen but not a watch.
Really, it looks great, just flipped the wrong way. Thanks for the video!
Without a doubt, my #2 favorite Bonnaroo set of all time (Animal Collective 2013 is #1).
Darkside live is a thing not to be missed. I LOVE their studio work, but they bring it to a whole new level live. They fully took advantage of the late night set too. I had the pleasure of seeing them earlier this year, so I knew what a treat we were in for.
I'm having trouble even describing the set, it was that good. When someone mentioned time stands still during Darkside, they weren't kidding. Like the most skilled DJ's, they took us on a journey of peaks and valleys. One that was filled with wild soundscapes.
I was to the left of the soundboard/access area, gripping onto the metal barricade. Shit got intense for me a for a little bit, holding onto that metal was the only thing keeping me tethered to my body after some of those climaxes.
Paroxysm714 was good to see you at the show, sorry I couldn't manage more then a thumbs up and a smile though
There was a taper setting up for Nick Cave. I asked him if he was planning on taping Darkside. He said he hadn't heard of them and wasn't planning on it. I talked them up a bit and he said he might if he wasn't too tired. Not sure if it got taped or not, but fingers crossed!
I really can’t stress how much everyone needs to see Darkside. In just a few short years, producer Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington have built one of the most thrillingly unique acts of the decade. Fusing subterranean electronic grooves with live vocal and guitar loops, Darkside make the music that you’d wanna hear at 2:30 AM on a Saturday night. OH AND THAT’S WHAT TIME THEY PLAYED AT BONNAROO. Bless you Superfly Productions for your ever so keen insight.
Jaar and Harrington, decked out in their sharpest black attire, came out looking like time travelers blessing us with dance music from 2030. The duo makes ample use of their entrancing, stunning stage design and they also make ample use of the low end in a sound system. On standout tracks like “The Only Shrine I’ve Seen,” Harrington would layer hypnotic loops while Jaar went mad scientist on his electronic rig. The duo would build and build and build before blasting the audience with heavy bass and drum grooves. Unlike the trendy, buzzy crowd I was a part of at Darkside’s Chicago appearance in January, the Bonnaroo crowd loved every minute of the uncanny, immersive grooves that Harrington and Jaar pour themselves into. It was truly a miraculous set and it was the best set I saw at Bonnaroo 2014.
