I cast my one and only vote for Kanye West and laugh heartily at the people who have been furiously and impotently voting against him, like clockwork, every week
Astonishing that there's this much support for an artist firmly entrenched in the "Vegas Residency" phase of his career.
Someone's mad.
I honestly don't think that the results of a run-off tournament featuring this year's Bonnaroo acts held on a message board could matter any less to me, so no, "mad" has nothing to do with it. I've got nothing against Elton either, think he's perfectly able and a legend in his own right. I'm just stunned that there's this many people who would take 65 year old Elton hamming it up over Kanye West in the midst of one of the most vital and fertile stretches produced by any modern artist within recent memory.

Because some of us don't see the world the way you see it. Also you do seem biased against Elton, such as using his age and accusing him of "hamming it up" against him.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've been using the Vegas recidency stage argument for months and I'm continued to be blown away by the support he continues to recieve. I'm fine with him on Sunday, but I've basically come to terms with being "wrong" in everyone else's mind.

As dickish as it may seem from the surface, I honestly think age can very much affect my excitement level for a show because acts are generally not as good when they get older. I am not saying they are always bad by any stretch of the imagination, but there is a definite let down. I enjoyed Tom Petty last year more than I expected. Would I have enjoyed 1993 Tom Petty over 2013 Tom Petty? Most definitely. If this was a competition between 1974 Elton John and 2014 Kanye West, I think the results could be much different.

I get what you're saying, it just bugs me when people dismiss an artist over their age. By fox's logic Paul McCartney's show should have been a train wreck considering he was 70 when he played Roo. I understand that age impacts a performer. When I saw Bob Weir last month, he put on a great show, he still's an excellent performer. Is he still in his prime? No, he's 66, his voice was a bit raspy, but he could still sing very well. Would it have been cool to have seen him back in the 70s? Sure, but I can't travel through time. I couldn't see 1974 Bob Weir, i saw 2014 Bob Weir. I feel it's wrong to fault someone for something they can't help, so if they can still put on a great show, I won't hold it against them.
You OK there, sang_xcx?? We can talk all about how awesome Yeezy is next weekend. Fun times ahead!
I didn't realize you had went to the dark side. What's next switching to team waffles? Becoming a gamecock fan?
Nope. I've always been a fan of Kanye's music. I'm just full of surprises. But I guarandamntee you that I will always be Team Pancake & never be a fan of USuC. Never. Ever.

To me, fox just appeared to be saying that he didn't get why so many people were picking an act decades past his prime over an act in the middle of his. Aside from the hamming it up part, he did say Elton is a legend in his own right, so I don't feel like he was saying Elton would be a disaster. Just that he is not going to be as good as Kanye.

And I think that's the part of it where the Vegas recidency/casino/tour state fair thing comes into play i think. Your just not goig to see someone like Macca or Springsteen or the Who doing it. I think that's where the "hamming it up" argument comes into play. Sometime back the argument was goig strong about Journey as a headline and I think Elton has opened that door. Obviously Elton is in a different stratosphere than journey but it could be a slippery slope. When talking about "old" acts I think Elton is a lot closer to the Journey/Lynard Skynard/Neil Diamond side of the argument than Macca/Bruce/Petty/ect...... The first us festival thing gets brought up a lot and I don't think it's because it's a rarity and a get I think it's more there was never really a good reason or draw for him to do one, When it comes down to it, I really have zero issue with Elton playing Sunday and am actually pretty excited for it, at the end of the day I just don't think it's a big "get", I think it's a very safe booking(maybe because of Kanye) I mean who really totally dislikes Elton? I just think there is a lot of blind nievity because he is such a lefendary name.

I'm curious if a lot of people voted for Kanye because they legitimately like his music, or if they just voted to spite everyone.
You could make the same argument the other direction. How many people voted for Elton because they are really looking forward to him and how many just voted him because they hate Kanye? I voted for Kanye because I think his performance will be better out of the two choices available. If Elton would have lost to Vampire Weekend (and it was closer than I expected), I would have voted for VW over Kanye.

I haven't liked what I have listened to of Kanye West, but I've only really listened to whats popular on Spotify from him..and also some of The College Dropout album.......I legitimately am interested in at least trying to get into his music, so could someone direct me in the right direction of what to listen to from him?
