Last year I won tickets to the Lockn' Music Festival which may or may not be your thing but in terms of lay out, it's two side by side stages so as soon as one band is done, the next band starts with no more then 5 minutes in between shows. This years line up is pretty strong and have been considering going again (again if you are into jam bands and Wilco)
Unfortunately Lock'n is while I'm in school (damn education) so I won't be able to go for another couple of years. But this years lineup is awesome. Grace Potter is phenomenal and I'm really hoping I find some way to see the Allman Brothers before they call it quits
fyi...allman brothers aren't breaking up. Just replacing tedeschi from what I've heard.
To add to the Disclosure/Ice Cube debate, both acts came through Orlando relatively recently. Ice Cube played a venue downtown with approximately a 1,250 person capacity and to my recollection didn't even sell out the show. Disclosure came through at House of Blues, a 2100 or so capacity and sold it out a month in advance. Not trying to hate on Ice Cube, but he's even listed two lines below Disclosure on the lineup. Definite mistake if this schedule is correct. I'll be skipping Kanye to get a spot for Disclosure for sure.

Cube should have been on during the day, first. But based on what he's up against late night they should have just put Disclosure on the Which pre-Skrillex to keep the EDM crowd there. Move the metal stuff to the Other tent because it will have the smallest crowd. Then put Cube in a tent. Simple.
Also you kind of have to assume the superjam will be something jammy or classic rock, since the other stages have EDM, rap, metal.

Oh I'd heard Warren Haynes and Dereck Trucks are leaving. And then they're not really touring after that. I might be mistaken though.

You heard correct....that was the rumor going around and it was reported that way. But recently Allman came out and said that they weren't finishing up and would just replace guys.
Yeah, EDM is a big deal and all that. It still doesn't take away from the fact that people (even 18-28) have different tastes. Those crowds will be some of the biggest of the weekend, sure. But it won't be "dangerously" congested.
You're also underestimating the appeal of someone like Ice Cube. There's a reason he's on the big stage and Disclosure isn't. By no means am I discrediting Disclosure's popularity, but you have also to take Cube's into consideration. I have a feeling many people will ride out the Which, Cube > Skrillex.
It was estimated Disclosure pulled 50k people to the Outdoor Theater at Coachella last weekend and they were up against Duck Sauce, Beck/Arcade Fire, and Motorhead...all stronger acts than what they're up against at Roo.
Coach and Bonnaroo are entirely different animals.
Also, who made that estimate? How many people attended Coachella? How was this estimate assessed?
Cube is also going to be big because of his film career. He's almost a household name, even to people who don't listen to hip-hop. I think a lot of people on this board also forget that the general population's knowledge of musical acts is not incredibly extensive. A quick poll around the office showed that no one knows who Disclosure is and everyone knows who Ice Cube is. Sure, the people who are into EDM will know them, and fests undoubtedly have a higher concentration of ravers and such than the general population, but the casual fest-goer probably won't give them much thought.

-I guess I'm doing pit for Jack White after Cake finishes up. Missing out on Phospherescent and James Blake kills me a little inside, but I think it's worth it. I'm fine with Damon Albarn, but could not care less about Lionel. Oh well.
-The most underrated conflict for me is The Lone Bellow/Warpaint/Arctic Monkeys. Definitely going with AM, but not seeing Warpaint might haunt me. I saw The Lone Bellow twice last year, so I know what I'm missing there, and it hurts.
-Having Andrew Bird as my #1 set is really cramping my Friday style. I'll miss Janelle Monae, The Head and The Heart, The Naked and the Famous and get to Vampire Weekend after they have started and the field is packed. Hopefully everyone goes to see Phoenix so I can move up for Kanye. Rough placement for Mr. Bird.
-Thursday is going to be interesting. I learned last year that you can't tent jump too much or you won't be close for anything. I want to see Hunter Hunted at the Cafe so I'm hoping Omar Souleyman is under attended so I can get a decent spot for White Denim. Also, the ZZ Ward => Real Estate vs. Caveman => Ms Mr is hurting. Throw in Saint Johns in the Caveman and ZZ Ward time slot to make matters worse. Leaning towards Saint Johns into most of Caveman into Ms Mr. I'm fine with sacrificing Real Estate's live show even though I really like their latest album. Also, Banks vs. Polica vs. Omar Souleyman is pretty weak considering how late they are placed.
-Beginning of Carolina Chocolate Drops => Lake Street Dive => Sarah Jarosz seems like an ideal Sunday beginning for me. Love it.

Are the people in your office all going to Bonnaroo?
EDM is driving festivals these days. Youre insane if you dont think that the Bonnaroo crowd will overwhelm Disclosure.

It really isn't as simple as "Disclosure and Ice Cube should change spots", it's more "Ice Cube should be playing a day stage spot and Disclosure's LN set should be anywhere but the Other Tent." It will be packed not just because Disclosure's a big EDM act and EDM is big, but because they're an indie darling right now as well. They could well draw the biggest crowd of any act playing in that time spot, and they're playing on the smallest stage.
edit: oh, and comparing watercooler surveys to bonnaroo crowds is almost a non sequitur
Haha I wasn't being serious with my office survey. There's only one other person in my office right now. But the worst part of this debate is that now I've started listening to Disclosure and have another conflict.
Fuckers.
Edit: And like I said, I was referring to who's a bigger name to the general population, and noted that the demographic of people who go to fests is different. As fests themselves become more mainstream, you're gonna see more casual music listeners attending.

Actually, yes. Things do tend to lose relevance over time. That's pretty much how something becomes irrelevant: through the passage of time.
I love Cube, his early solo work and his short stint with NWA. That's beside the point. The point is that Disclosure is one of the biggest festival acts right now and will outdraw Cube, whether we like it or not.

I think Ice Cube will have a decent draw for Which Stage. PRobably a little bigger than the XX last year to be honest. And an unknown superjam is hard to quantify. Still, the metal tent won't draw a huge crowd. And anyone who doesn't like Kanye and wants to dance early in the night will be waiting at Disclosure for like two hours.

Ice Cube is a huge draw, and should be on a mainstage anyway. Him and Disclosure will far-and-away have the biggest crowds on the farm right then. If I'm bitter, it's because I'd love to see him but he's slotted against one of my must-see acts, and because Disclosure will be so crowded it might not be fun anyway.
edit: and Ice Cube will have a crowd because he's a gangsta rap icon, not because he did some silly movies

I'm going off the review in the LA times and I believe Coachella sells around 80k tickets a day. The only reason I can see for them putting Disclosure not in front of Skrillex may be issues with production. Disclosure doesn't have a huge production but their screens/lighting take time to assemble and take down, and with Skrillex's massive spaceship that might not be possible with the time allotted. I'm sure Ice Cube has zero production as he isn't touring and Die Antwoord after Disclosure has a very small production, if any at all.

I get that. But you can't compare a festival crowd to the general population. Its always going to be younger and more closely aligned with present trends in music. Just because someone is a more recognizable name to middle america doesnt mean theyll be a bigger draw at a fest that primarily caters to a specific set of people.

You're ignoring the fact that many people (believe it or not) still don't know Disclosure. Who knows Cube? Literally, EVERYONE.
Plenty of people will be at both sets. I won't be surprised by the size of Disclosure's crowd, it'll be huge. But you're definitely underestimating Ice Cube's draw + all of the people who will camp out through Skrillex.
No, I understand that many people don't know Disclosure.
But I also understand that among the people going to Bonnaroo, they'll be a huge draw.
There's a reason they're higher than Cube on the lineup, too.
Maybe we'll have whoever calculated their coach crowd of 50K to come out and count for us.
All I have to go by at the moment (statistics wise) is a bonnaroo app - that currently has Ice Cube leading by 1,000 votes.
Can't we just agree that they'll both have massive crowds? That's the logical thing to do here.
I think Cube is perfect to play before Skrillex and people will stay for both, although the thought of DubBros sitting through Mastodon for their bass God is very intriguing.
