I'm a little surprised that I've hardly seen anyone mention anything about going to see Washed Out! Am I the only one totally psyched to see these guys at the Farm?!
one of my favourite acts on record, but he's not great live at all.
I may break from the Metal tent Friday night for some Superjam time. I hate that I missing Damon Albarn but I heard Cage the Elephant puts on a great show and I may get in the pit for them since I will already be at Cake.
Also still not sure if I am going to Kanye. Its not that I hate Kanye (Graduation is one of the best hip hop albums I have ever heard), Friday is gonna be a loooong day and I need break at some point to recharge for the late night metal. But the more I watch the videos everyone post of his live shows and read everyone's post about him on here makes me wonder if I would be missing something amazing.

I believe they're up against Broken Bells right? That's why I'm not seeing them. I was super excited about them, but broken bells has entered my must see acts... Sacrifices must be made.
True.. I do wanna see Broken Bells, but Washed Out holds a special place in my heart. I am gonna run over to Broken Bells after the Washed Out set - should catch the last 30-40 mins or so. The way I make sacrifices is watching the bands I want to see, and then catch at last part of the conflicting set.. It's a lot of running around, but worth it. After all, I'm traveling all this way and spending all this money for music - gotta make the most of it! 40 mins of Broken Bells to me is better than none.. but yea, I hate out of all the bands, those two are so conflicting.

So if you're having a tough time choosing between broken bells and washed out it isn't even a competition?

I'm not saying you should definitely pick Kanye (or maybe I am) but his last concert featured 5 songs from Graduation.

You would absolutely be missing something amazing. If you're on the fence, hang out in the back of the What field to relax during and head over to the metal tents when you've had enough of Kanye. I don't think you'll regret it.

Broken Bells is more "present" in their live performances. I like Washed Out's sound, but their live "personality" is like kids wearing their father's clothes. I keep waiting for a level of energy from them that never emerges from the semi-sedated "heroin-chic meets the Land's End catalog" vibe. Of the two, I personally feel Broken Bells is the more fun show.

Kind of ironic because the shins reviews i've heard that they are really bland live haha. But the only reason i'm kind of considering washed out is because they are at Lolla too. But I can't wait that long to see broken bells haha.

There's no reason to skip Kanye, there's literally nothing else going on at that time slot, and he's a performance artist at heart. He's either going to deliver a strong show with a bunch of cool stage pieces, or some crazy crap is going to go down like Roo '08, and you can just go back to your tent and take a nap. Literally worst-case scenario is "shiz goes down, and you were at ground zero".

What is Damon Albarn's set gonna be like? Think he'll play Empire Ants with Yukimi or Stylo with Bobby Womack? Just curious.. I'll definitely be at his show if he throws in some Gorillaz and maybe some Blur. But personally, I'm not a big fan of his solo stuff. Just curious as to what ya'll think his set will be like?

well looks like I'm going to take everyone's advice and go see Kanye for a little. Our group is really pumped for Mastodon and want a good spot for them. Any suggestions what time we should get to their show? Besides eating and resting that's the main reason I would miss Kanye.

The metal tent should be the least crowded tent by far on Friday night. Obviously Mastodon starts before the end of Kanye's set, so you would have to leave early. However, I'm betting you could walk into the metal tent as Mastodon is starting and get under the tent at the least. You might even be able to get pretty close in that scenario. If you really want to ensure a great spot then I would definitely leave Kanye by about 11 (30 minutes before Mastodon starts). That would give you plenty of time to get over to the that tent and secure a spot, but like I said, I don't think getting close to the shows in the metal tent will be hard at all.

might get a blur song or two, but the slower, more melancholy cuts. nothing the casual fan would recognise, certainly no Song 2 or Parklife or anything. a couple Gorillaz tunes as well, hes been playing Tomorrow Comes Today, El Manana and Melancholy Hill. also Kingdom of Doom from TGTBTQ.
if you dont like his solo stuff I wouldnt attend, because the songs he plays from his other projects are going to be of a similar style.
going to correct myself. hadn't seen this week's gigs yet.
broke out a few blur cuts, Out of Time and This is a Low, plus some other Gorillaz material like CE and Kids With Guns. played Tender at the gig before that, which is ace.

Word.. I'll probably attend his set just because Little Dragon is there.. and I'm hoping since it's Bonnaroo and all - maaaybe they'll play Empire Ants. I would attend anyways, just to hear some Gorillaz songs. Thanks for the feedback
really hope the show isnt full of people shouting out for Gorillaz and Blur tracks.
I mean I'm not going into it expecting to hear a handful of Gorillaz songs. I really like his solo album, but I would like to hear him play a couple Gorrilaz tunes
really hope the show isnt full of people shouting out for Gorillaz and Blur tracks.
well FIRST of all I'm not some bro showing up to yell out song requests.. Secondly, I'm just saying I've never seen Gorillaz live - and since there are artists attending Bonnaroo that he has collaborated with, it would be cool to hear some of these songs.. geez
I get where you're coming from.. but lets be real here - the large majority of the crowd that's going to be at his set is there to hear a sample platter of all his material. They aren't all showing up to his set to hear an hour and half of JUST his new album - if that's the case, then you're probably in the minority.
Also keep in mind that to a lot of people (myself included, before seeing convo on inforoo) Damon Albarn is just some guy they probably haven't heard of. If they billed him as "The guy who brought us Gorillaz and Blur", I think his set would be much more well-attended. Because of his billing I think a lot of people will still research him and show up, but I don't think it's going to be too full of people there only wanting to hear Gorillaz.

ive stated this before, but unless the people there to hear a "sample platter" are into the slower, more melancholy cuts, they'll be disappointed. well unless he encores with CE.
buddy of mine was at the Rivoli show. said there were loads of people who clearly didnt care a wit about the show until he played a Gorillaz cut or a blur track. theyd excitedly sing along to Tomorrow Comes Today, then go back to their mobiles.
really hoping the festival crowds are better than this, but who knows.

Word, I do like his new album - its just not my favorite stuff he's done. Maybe I need to let it grow on me. Unfortunately, that's how crowds usually are when it comes to artists like Damon - where your solo stuff isn't as familiar with the majority like your other projects are. I feel like it'll be a good show regardless
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
