He'll have too many off the field problems and get run out of the NFL. Maybe Boner can explain the finer positive points of playing in the CFL after washing out of the NFL?
I hate when people say this. What exactly makes you think that he is gonna have off the field problems? The autograph incident? the drunkenness charge that happens to college kids every weekend? I can see saying he doesn't have the physical skills to succeed, but the "off the field" stuff being his downfall is just silly.
Exactly. Hes in Cleveland. The on the field issues will trump anything Johnny Football does off the field.

He'll have many more on-the-field problems than off-the-field problems. This was a stupid fucking pick. There really was no QB worth taking in the first round this year with possibly the exception of Bortles as a late first round pick. At least he's someone who might eventually prove NFL-worthy. I don't really care bc I'm a Giants fan but I'm amazed at the number of people who think this will work out OK for the Browns.

The only guy taken in the past two years that will go down in history as a "great" QB is Andrew Luck.
I think Russell Wilson is okay
he's a game manager. when you have a team like that, there's nothing wrong with being one. but he's definitely not an elite QB. he's got a top RB and top defense to make his job really easy.
I believe the best quarterback from this class will be Blake Bortles. It may not be too soon, but I think he can play. I also think that Conner Shaw (also at Cleveland) could get a shot in about four years when he's at his second team as a backup after a starter goes down. Same with Zach Mettenberger. Bridgewater could be pretty good, but I think it'll take a season or two. Was anyone else surprised that Tahj Boyd didn't go earlier? There are some Clemson folks on here, yeah?
I have absolutely no idea how Manziel will be but after watching him play a lot over the last two years, everyone should know that his arm is even better than his legs. If I had to bet, though, I'd say he will do some amazing things at times early in his career but won't be a big time player in five years.

Agree with everything you said, Bird, except I think Boyd probably landed in the right spot. I've watched both of Bortles preseason games and he appears to have big time pro talent. Seen a bit of Mettenberger and Bridgewater and they both played well. Connor Shaw was awesome at the end of the Browns-Redskins game even though they didn't get the win. He had a good record at SC (17-0 at home). I hope he gets a shot to play somewhere down the line. Once he gets on the field I think Manziel will make some amazing plays and also make a lot of poor decisions early on. If he stays healthy and Cleveland keeps the offensive talent around him I think he could be a top 10-15 QB in the league in a few years.
I don't think any of the QB's in this years class will end up being considered one of the greats. If I had to choose I'd pick Bortles. That guy has made some impressive plays this preseason.
I'm a fan and think the teams that passed him up will be kicking theirselves in the ass. The big negative here is if Gordon gets suspended for the season that will definitely delay his growth. As for Bortles or Bridgewater, these guys won't last. Manziel is gonna be solid.

I wanted Carr or Bridgewater, but I was excited to see what John Football could do and wanted to be hopeful. And now we have RG3 (do the new Browns geniuses think it is 2012?) and we're going to use the #2 pick on a QB that absolutely no one is completely sold on, and probably the one who played against NO ONE in college. And we let two starters on the O-line go without viable replacements, so we're going to get more QBs killed. I still want to be hopeful and trust the new stooges in the front office, but man, this is so far beyond comical now.
I actually kinda like Mel Kiper Jr in a weird way. He's pretty intuitive and doesn't miss often. On the one hand he was saying don't take Manziel early but he still had Johnny as his #1 rated qb. I'm not a hater but I think Mel is dead wrong. Manziel is gonna tank. It's not gonna be pretty.
Not trying to bust Browns fans. I just didn't want Jimmyroo getting one up on me. Still pissed at his Mets.

OMFG. Just when it looks like the Browns may be onto something by rebuilding smartly, you realize that the starting QB is going to be a guy who didn't take a snap last year despite being healthy, the veteran backup (who may not be on the roster next week) is a low-level career journeyman, and they just wasted one of their precious third round picks on a guy no better than their other two QBs. RG3, Josh McCown, Connor Shaw, Austin Davis, and now Cody Kessler. Wow.
I think it is safe to say the next great NFL QB is not currently on the Browns' roster. Cleveland optimism: we'll have another top-5 pick next year, so maybe we can draft a QB then - because screw this year! (But we won't, because we'll trade down for more third round picks, of course.)

Looks like next year your team will ruin DeShaun Watson's career
