I'm a big Kasabian fan! It really sucks they don't get booked for NA fests, but since they never caught on over here, it makes sense. I know they've been booked for Coachella a few times - and I'd love to be apart of one of those Mojave dance parties.
I figure to really experience one of their shows, go check them at a Euro fest sometime. Which won't be this coming year for me, but hopefully in the new future.
They randomly were played on Sirius XM and I dug the sound. Checked out their discography and thought it was solid. They seem a bit pretentious (caught then talking shit on some other Euro rock bands) and Frank Turner had some choice words for them. It was interesting to see a bunch of Euro bands bicker whom are all relatively unknown in the US. None the less, seems like yet another solid HL booking.

Oh man they're totally a modern day Oasis in terms of their attitude. I love it though - playing it up a bit, but really entertaining

Paraphrasing a bit but they said something like "How come there no good rock bands in the UK. Just us, Artic Monkeys, Foals and (maybe) Muse."
Kasabian have claimed that only them, Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines ‘survived’ from the era of 00’s indie rock.
Today sees the release of the band’s acclaimed new album ‘For Crying Out Loud‘. Speaking to us for this week’s NME cover story, frontman Tom Meighan said that he thinks of the band as ‘survivors’ from the wave of UK bands who dominated the guitar indie scene just after the turn of the century.
“There’s only us and the [Arctic] Monkeys left on that level,” Meighan told NME. “They’re great. Kaiser Chiefs too, probably. When we came out in 2004, you had Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight, Kings Of Leon, The Holloways, The Paddingtons, The Maccabees, Libertines had just finished.
“It was just a f**king good time. We were 22 and there was so much good music. Bands were back, there were loads of rock magazines, indie and rock’n’roll were cool. We survived it.”
Meighan added: “Where is rock n’ roll at the minute? It’s gone, isn’t it? I reckon it’s a mixture of everything. What runs the world at the moment? It’s R&B, pop, solo artists. Adele, she’s amazing…Ed Sheeran. There are no bands. “
This dude needs to come off his high horse a bit. The Maccabees broke up as they were still growing in popularity. Kasabian never reached the level Arctic Monkeys did stateside. I don't see them being anymore relevant than bands like Franz in the US at this point (and they definitely never had a single chart like they did).

Ahhh right I remember reading this when it was all over NME.
I don't know.. I kinda dig the arrogant rock star vibe some of those folks put out there. Half the time they said shit just to cause it.
Bottom line though - Kasabian are near the top of my list of must-see at this point. Bet it's a blast start to finish
I might have to swap out Coachella for Mad Cool this year. My Spanish is a bit rusty. Anyone know what tickets for this are going for?
€130 + costs. I litteraly don't understand how y'all Americans keep going to these festivals sometimes with shitty line ups that cost minimum $300 just to get in. I've a source saying Rock Werchter, NOS Alive and Mad Cool might have a similar outcome line up wise and that they booked a lot of artists together. So I'm still on the fence of going to Mad Cool (against Dour) when I'm seeing like more than half already at Rock Werchter. Indication of the day some bands are playing are gonna be announced on Monday but the clashfinder I made for MC has already every band on the right day announced so far, just the stage/hour is off.. Much appreciated! I’ll have to keep an eye-out for those lineups as well. At a glance this would end up being roughly the same cost as Coachella, even factoring in an extra week in Madrid/Barcelona.

Different social classes that are able to afford it (versus in Europe), and also lack of alternatives/social pressure to join with friends.

The American festival scene is pretty depressing in comparison. Guessing there’s not a Live Nation or Goldenvoice running a majority of the festivals and concert venues.
Even though there’s overlap, I think I’m going to try to get in Rock Werchter (camping), spend the following week in Barcelona and hop a train to Madrid for Mad Cool. With Airbnb it ends up being pretty close to the same cost as Coachella, once the hotel, rental car and flight are factored in for two festivals in Europe.
If anyone decides to do either and is looking to split the camping/Airbnb let me know.
I committed to Melt a few months back for that same weekend. Had I known better I might have done things differently. Hopefully we share Massive Attack.
Mad cools lineup is absolutely bananas. I don't understand why Europe's festivals are so different. Do they not have millennials?
They do but just like everyone, millenials here have different tastes as others. One might like electronic music and might go to Creamfields, Tomorrowland. Someone else might just go to a festival to have a great time and to party (Sziget). You got your majors (Reading & Leeds, Rock Werchter, Glastonbury, Roskilde, Pinkpop etc). And then you got your hip hop festivals (Woo Hah, Dour, Les Ardentes etc).. And last your hard rock/metal fests (Download, Graspop etc)
The thing is that there is barely any crossover from different genres on to another festival. If you like 'EDM' then you're not going to find that at Download or something, but that's what happens at most NA-festivals I think. They all want to appeal to the youth and put down a DJ or a rapper in that line up, maybe a certain band that mainstream folks like but in EU you got your own mainstream festivals for that (V Festival, Balaton Sound, Sziget etc). You see? How rock or in general major festivals survive is to appeal to the right audience, at Rock Werchter, the average age is around 25 whereas at some other festivals that might be 16/18. If you fill a line up a certain way, you're going to attract a certain kind of people and I guess certain NA festivals with hiphop and EDM-culture booming are afraid that they're gonna lose their crowd which is silly because there will always be people who like certain music genres.

Here too, Livenation is pretty much all over the place and you got company's like MOJO and Scorpio taking a little percentage of the market aswell. If big artists come tour in the EU it's almost certainly that that's done by LN. Local or smaller bands that's something else ofcourse. But once a band hits a 3k audience for a show, then half of those are going to be by LN I reckon.

Booked my Airbnb today for Mad Cool, but I'd advise not doing what I almost did and booking a place near the old festival location... whoops. Between Justice, Japandroids, Washed Out and Real Estate I'm looking forward to the undercard nearly as much as the headliners. Hopefully the rest of Rock Werchter isn't too far behind because it's been a few years since I've been able to do a camping fest.
And a good explanation of European fests. While I like a variety of music, I do appreciate a festival not watering down a lineup by trying to toss every genre together and hoping something sticks.

LOL, MOJO is Live Nation's Dutch subsidiary. Pinkpop, Down the Rabbit Hole, Lowlands, etc. are also owned by LN.
I feel like its really bad that I don't recognize a single name on that lineup outside of Dekmantel Soundsystem, DJ Harvey, and Marcel Dettmann.
Objekt, Palms Trax, Antal, Hunee, Lena Willikens, Tom Trago, Sadar Bahar, Esa, and Donato Dozzy are all great.
This Palms Trax set is one of my favorite sets all year
Hunee and Antal (especially b2b) are my favorite dj's, and they play everything. If you like Motor City Drum Ensemble you'll love them. If you have time for a 6 hour mix this one is an absolute journey.
