what kind of crowd does it draw? was it well run? amazing/great/ok experience? i've only been to city fests in europe so a little apprehensive about the camping
The camping is great. Very well organized, and people are generally friendly and willing to party/socialize with neighbors. The campsites are also very close to the actual festival site, so it's easy to go back and forth between them throughout the day.
Check out the prior year clashfinders/schedules and festival maps: Lowlands is not just a music festival. There's also Dutch stand up comedy, movies, lectures, theatre/ballet, morning yoga, and even a sauna area alongside a lake where people can chill with no clothes on. And since there are no day tickets sold, it's all about the collective experience. Which thus attracts a wide variety of crowds, not all who come for the music and mainly come because it's a huge party and social gathering. Lowlands is also the only Dutch festival that has an outdoor night program from 11pm to 5am, so you also get attendees who sleep and hang at the campsite all day and then just show up to dance at night. With copious amounts of drugs of course (weed is allowed but the organization/police does check for harder stuff, FWIW). Also, if you got game, I'd argue it's easier to hook up there compared to many other festivals. The first time I attended (14 years ago), one of my friends got pretty lucky this way.
Now in terms of the actual music experience; the covered stages are cool but the sound quality can be hit or miss, and you really need to stand up front in order to be among attentive crowds as there's definitely an obnoxious element among them that cares more about being loud and being seen. But if you like the lineup and the schedule works out in your favor in terms of no conflicts, you'll have some memorable music experiences. Also, based on my last time there in 2017, it gets expensive will all the food and drinks costs since you are there the entire time. But the food quality is decent and there are lots of options, so that's at least good.
So yeah, I wholeheartedly recommend this festival to North Americans. But I'm not yet convinced it will actually happen though, given the vaccination mess in the EU and that the Dutch government will need to approve a full 55,000 capacity festival.
Not sure about the UK, but I'd be surprised if the EU nations will allow Americans to travel there by this summer.
Most American travelers will be vaccinated by then, so if there are conclusive reports that vaccinated people don't carry and pass it on to others, it should be doable.
I have several problems with the so-called vaccine passport. It discriminates against people who aren't vaccinated; either because they just don't want to, couldn't get it yet or because of medical conditions (see pregnant women for example). They also don't know yet how long vaccines will be able to last and last thing; privacy reasons. Don't know if it'll pass really though I've seen some southern European lobby for it because of the amount of money tourism brings to their countries.

Privacy is always going ti be an issue with them but Im guessing you have zero trust in any data encryption thatll be used on them.
And its great that Smash Mouth gets another chance after Sturgis at a festival named Corona Capitol of all places.

Banning people with certain allergies or anyone under the age of 18 from air travel is a major non-starter. Plus privacy/expecting & recent moms issues. 6 months from now a Vaccine passport may even fail court challenges, which will happen.

If you look at how camera's work now and how they were gonna be intended or how some passports with fingerprints were intended and how they the information of that print is stored... I have zero faith in whatever the hell they wanna do with that. People been saying it's kinda gonna be like if you were to go to a country were there's a threat of malaria and you need to get vaccinated to get in.. But I don't think that doesn't even come close to whatever they wanna do with the passport.

Pukkelpop >>>>>> Lowlands
Have you been to both? I know that Pukkelpop always had edgier lineups in the past, but based on the past couple years I don't see what makes it better than Lowlands.

I'd say Pukkelpop is more of a Bonnaroo environment and Lowlands more Coachella.
Have done Pukkelpop multiple times and Lowlands only 1 day, so guess that doesn't say much.

But isn't Pukkelpop strictly for music? Lowlands has all sorts of stuff as mentioned in my aforementioned post, so I would consider that closer to Roo than Coachella.

Pukkelpop is a lot more than just music. You can actually get married on site, there's a ferris wheel, strip club,...
It has so much stuff to do that sometimes you'd forget you're at a music festival.
I can't say the same about Lowlands but both are pretty similar. I just like the Pukkelpop atmosphere a lot more than Lowlands.
