Also, may not be a popular one with the masses but raise the age limit. This is no place for a baby or little children. They can call it family festival all they want but these babies need the comfort of their home not sitting in the heat. I saw one woman at Cage the Elephant with a newborn. She was in GA, in the heat, with an umbrella surrounded by people smoking pot. I am sorry but someone can push her and the baby. The heat is detrimental for babies. What are these women thinking? So many things can go wrong. An infant can die in those conditions. If I am extremely uncomfortable in the heat/sun I cannot even phantom what those poor children are going through. There is no need to put babies through that strife.
Then I saw a lady walking around with a line of like 5 toddlers tied to a rope? What the fuck?
I respectfully disagree. I've never brought my kids, and probably wouldn't, but you can't generalize about the people who choose to bring their kids. I shudder to think that there probably are some who do it without thinking it through, but that's not to say there isn't any way at all to bring children, small children or even infants to such a festival. Simply put, a lot of compromises would have to be made, but again that's entirely possible to do. On the flipside, I think that perhaps the general public should do well to keep in mind that so long as the festival is GA, just like any GA event or location, you gotta keep what you do within reasonable limits. The fact that anyone can come means that you have to consider that anyone can come. Don't be upset that the woman had her baby next to people smoking pot—keep in mind, ultimately, which party was doing something illegal and which wasn't.

I agree with this and I'm a parent who takes my kids to as many family friendly shows and fests as we can (they've been to Nelsonville and Floydfest) but no way in hell am I bringing them to Roo anytime soon and they are 8 and 10. We'll reevaluate when they are teens but I can't even fathom having a baby there much less a toddler. What a nightmare!
The only time I've ever seen the Sonic Stage packed is when no one is playing there, and everyone is just laying down and resting in between shows.
I remember The Revivalists being pretty crowded in 2013, but yea, most of the time it seems pretty thin. I've also never been to Cafe Where...as someone else mentioned I'm one who has been to Roo 3 times now and never even seen the place.
1. Don't confiscate chairs, people need a break from standing. And I know rationalism may hurt but since when does a person sitting block another's view of the stage? It seems that standing blocks the view more often than someone sitting in a chair....Oh and so what if my Dad needs to sit down during a set and your line of party animals walks as close as possible to that chair and then complains that someone needs to put that chair up. Its disrespectful to be moving through the crowd when you know quackin well that your just bothering the people's concert experience.....Bonnaroo needs to add some more Roo' etiquette.
2. I think the police do a better job at directing automobile traffic. Let the police direct traffic on the grounds of Bonnaroo.
3. This ain't Disney World. I found only one place with legitimate prices. It is a local barbeque place in the back of the what stage field. You could get 2 shredded pork barbeque sandwiches for $8. Other places wanted $8 for just a quesadilla that was as thin as a straw. Think about reducing the cost that vendors have to pay to rent space so that the food prices are more accommodating to the consumer.
4. How the quack do glow sticks make it into the premises? Those things could put somebody's eye out. I watched countless glow sticks fly into I think...the vip area of the what stage. Talk about aggravating...people were trying to enjoy Elton John's show and instead glow sticks were flying at their heads!
5. Ask one of those consumer water filtering companies to fit your water supply with advanced water filtering and then allow them to advertise their brand at Bonnaroo forever. I could taste what seemed like chlorine.
I think you meant Orwells, not "Oswalds". Also, the crowd didn't knock the power out. Security purposely cut them off until they got everyone off the tent. The behavior was pretty typical for an Orwells show, I just don't think Bonnaroo knew what they were getting themselves into when they put them there.
Yeah I meant Orwells and no, security did not cut power. I knew both of the sound guys at the show. They LOST power. Also The Orwells were pissed by being on a small stage (not the sound guys fault at all) and several times the sound guys asked them to tell everyone to move back so people did not get hurt on the rail. What did The Orwells do? Tell people to get closer. The railing broke because of it (luckily no one was hurt TOO BADLY)
Of all the acts that played Miller Lite On Tap Lounge, only ONE got a bad review by all the people who worked it on the other side. After there set, the band told the sound guys to fuck off as well. Real class act. I like their music but seriously, act professionally.
sound was cut purposely.
Earlier that day, barely 10 minutes had passed during The Orwells’ set at the New Music On Tap Lounge — the latest name for the Miller Lite-sponsored micro-tent at the center of the festival — before the crowd started to destroy it. Booked at a stage way too small with a crowd of fans predisposed for rowdiness on a scale that security was utterly unprepared for, The Orwells put on the most memorable, anarchistic show in recent Bonnaroo memory. As the Chicago roots punks raged through tunes off Disgraceland, the crowd jockeyed for position by freeing up space occupied by furniture. First they crowd-surfed out the beanbag chairs. Then came the massive Miller-branded wooden chairs. And then, fans climbed the lighting scaffolding to get a better view.
“I don't think this stage can handle all you motherfuckers,” screamed singer (not the former governor of New York) Mario Cuomo, wild-eyed and stating the obvious. “We're gonna need a bigger stage. I think we should have Jake Bugg's stage!" Oh, how right he was. Not long after the first stage-dive from the lighting scaffolding, the band's power was cut, allowing a squadron of security guards to disperse the fans perched atop the lighting rig and reinforce the barricades with brute strength. After 10 minutes radio silence — and a chant that cycled between “Orwells,” “Sound Guy,” “Fuck Miller Lite” and finally, “Coors Lite” — their power was turned back on. Three songs later, including a rad cover of “Cheap Beer” by FIDLAR, they were done for good, shut down by the man. www.nashvillescene.com/nashvillecream/archives/2014/06/14/bonnaroo-friday-janelle-monae-vampire-weekend-neutral-milk-hotel-mastodon-dr-dog-diarrhea-planet-danny-brown-and-more
The Orwells get shut down: So many people packed in to see the Illinois rock band at the Miller Lite's New Music on Tap Lounge that about 20 kids climbed onto the top of the tent in hopes of getting a better view. Security stopped the show to get them down, prompting chants of "(Expletive) Miller Lite!" Once the show restarted, the crowd surged against the barricades, forcing security to cut the power again and end the set. www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2014/06/14/five-cool-things-things-bonnaroo-friday/10515913/

Haha this was my 4th and I still have yet to see Cafe Where! My sister-in-law, however, just came for the first time and saw Bronze Radio Return there and loved it.
Sheesh. It should have been warpaint in between GOAT and Washed Out. I wouldn't have left the Other Tent until Elton.
As was kind of mentioned above, I think that is the point. They don't want you staying in one tent for a long period of time. For one, it just isn't real good for the general health of people. I stayed in one of the tents last year for Tallest Man on Earth >> Dirty Projectors >> Beach House and while that was an awesome set of shows it was also insanely crowded and hot the entire time. I was literally squeezed straight up against other people for probably 5 hours in a row and by the end had been out of water for at least 2. Plus, they want you visiting the vendors and you can't do that while in a tent the entire time either.
This is precisely the reason I refused to wait all day for Washed Out. I was against the barricade for Tame last year and ASAP fans almost crushed me after their set.
And also after this year's Superjam when Chance's fan made their great push to the front. Enough was enough.
I decided to mozy in right before Washed Out and found a spot against the security barricade by the camera guy. It was great, had a decent view and was able to chill during the set and lean when I needed to. It was perfect for that set.
Keep the VIP bathrooms in Centeroo open all night.
They were. You had to know to go around the back and get to them that way.
And WTF was up with taking people's blankets? I could not believe my eyes when I saw all of those at the check points. Every year they two steps forward and one step back.

It's in the back of the what field between the vendors and the huge shade tent with the picnic tables. This was my third roo and the first time I got to catch some sets there.

Wrong on Saturday night they closed them.
yup cuz I reallllllllly had to pee and didn't want to loose my spot for Kaskade so I dealt with it for 3 hours lol
I thought the tents had the stages pushed more into the tent making less space for the crowd. Seems the tent stages were deeper and the pits in there were huge also.
Be more prepared for the elements affecting the entrance traffic. They only had 4 toll booths open because of mud, so we waited in line for 8 hours on Wednesday night (12AM - 8AM). I could understand if it was raining the whole time, but the last of the rain was at around 2PM Wednesday afternoon. Seems like plenty of time to get things sorted out & move things along faster.
Screens at the tents would be amazing. Tried to run over at the start of Grouplove & middle of Frank Ocean but it was pointless to stick around due to how far back those crowds were. I guess I could of showed up during the act prior to start to get a good spot (and i did my fair share of this), but then I would of completely missed more amazing acts.
Could of used a couple of extra water stations. My camelbak ran dry on me many times while bouncing around the tight time frames & not crossing one on the way.
The portajohns & their locations got pretty disgusting at night. Would be nice if there was a way to get that fixed.. wonder if setting the location up on a layer of gravel would fix the mud problem there?
Having said all that, Wednesday night to Monday morning was the most amazing experience!

I went by what the sound guys who were there (and had worked there several years prior) said. regardless, bad place to put that band all the way around. And they still need to learn to act like professionals. Thanks for the info tho.

My biggest issue was the port-a-potties. In 2012, the porto situation had gotten better from previous years. I feel like this year, it regressed. For our campground (Jeff Spicoli), we had 10 portos for approximately 1,000 people. As soon as we were parked on Thursday, I went to the porto and it was already disgusting. At 5am. Just after the campground was filled. It wasn't cleaned until Friday morning. WTF. I can handle no TP because I'm used to that and bring my own. But having to use a porto with shit ALL OVER the seat? Not cool. I realize it's just as much the fault of attendees as it is for Roo, as we are fucking ADULTS and should know how to pee and poop in a large hole. The portos in Centeroo were a bit more tolerable because I think they were cleaned twice a day instead of once a day.
Also, this is the first year I've had issues with the sound at the Which stage. We could barely hear Cake.

Anyone in their right mind knows that the conditions we experience at roo are the the adequate ones for a newborn. You are a parent, you know. Any reasonable parent would not subject their children to this strife. I'm sorry but they wouldn't. Regardless of the pot, the heat is completely dangerous to newborns. Roo is a cesspool of germs (it is). And this woman in particular was in the middle of the crowd for cage. She wasn't standing isolated to the side, no. She was in the middle. Just image if someone had crowd surfed on top of her and her baby? Or if someone pushed them. It's common sense. This is a horrible thing to do to a baby or toddler.

You, Sir, have a terrible palate, and should go see a doctor. The taste is sulfur, not chlorine.

agreed. i think the portos should always be the #1 priority if only for health issues.
i often wish that there was a set of portos accessible only for people who can pass a basic sobriety/coordination test.

I saw another "mother of the year candidate" actually breastfeeding in the VIP area at the CAGE the Elephant show. What the quack?

I drink the Bonnaroo water, I don't mind the taste, but the sulfur does taste like farts. In fact sometimes when I'd be getting water the pipes would make that loud vibrating groaning noise, and I'd tell myself it was the Bonnaroo Water Monster putting farts into the water.

+1. This was my first Bonnaroo and I was mildly disturbed at the presence of small children. I think the overwhelming majority of us are free-spirited folks and I totally get wanting to expose your children to a variety of people from all walks of life. However, between the Tennessee humidity, the women sunbathing during midday sets, the people rumored to be running around pods butt-ass naked, the incessant pot smoking, the incessant calls (or dare I say pleadings?) for a girl a named Molly, that one chick who got so fucked up she started attacking people, that one guy literally giving himself uncomfortable wedgies while dancing in his skivvies during a set, and the 6am reverberating bass drops, I am hard-pressed to call this a family festival.
Bonnaroovian parents, please do yourselves and the rest of us a favor by finding a babysitter for the small kids for the weekend. Your kids will be teenagers soon enough.
i'll give you the heat - it's dangerous for healthy adults even, and terrible for babies. pretty rough on young kids too.
the women sunbathing, people running around naked? um, so what? most kids don't feel shame about naked bodies yet, and that's fine, imo. pot smoking? before they're grown people are going to be doing it in public i bet. and just because they hear a reference to molly (which you will if you turn on a radio for more than 11 seconds) doesn't mean they're buying, selling, or consuming it. none of those things are going to harm a kid who's with their parent or a responsible adult.

Always wonder "DO YOU NOT HAVE A RELATIVE YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR KID/S WITH? DO YOU REALIZE HOW PHYSICALLY DEMANDING THIS FESTIVAL IS?"
1. Get rid of whatever that god awful thing was next to the other tent. The sound bleed was awful. 2. Not sure how to do this or if this is possible, but make the water not taste like ass sweat. 3. The pit line on the What needs to be more organized. The free for all at Kanye became dangerous at times bc they had no idea what to do.
The sulfur water and the What pit rush cannot be improved, gotta get over it big guy.
Interesting. Last year they managed the pit line perfectly (at least during Paul.) Security made everyone put their hands up when the line was about to move, so no one could push, and threatened to kick anyone who pushed out of the line. Also monitored for cutters. Needs to be protocol.
