I'm not sure JW is "innovative." His style evolves, but I think it's just because he listens to older and older records.
I really hate to justify this thread by even posting in it, but I can't help myself here. This is why we will never see eye to eye on music. There is so much innovation in the act of reinventing. Its like saying the Architects of the Renaissance weren't innovative because they were using the same basic pallet as the Classics. (Architecture nerd argument)

I know quite a few architects who would agree with that. "You need to design for your time" or whatever. That said, I was mostly making a joke about JW. I don't think he's innovative in the way Thom Yorke is, but I think he gets credit for trying out new sounds regularly.

I saw Jack White do a couple of songs on Conan the other night and I must say, there was nothing interesting/innovative about those tracks. Just a couple of boring tunes with very little substance.

Did you see the roo show?
I've seen Jack White perform live with every band he's had. I quite like Jack White. I like his last two albums, but I think they're a touch on the boring side. Strangely, considering I own almost his entire discography on vinyl, I would vote JW toward the bottom of this list.
Also, I think it's sort of bullshit that you guys find my opinion of Jack White so amusing. I'm not oblivious to what the man's done, I've just never been impressed by his work. I wasn't going to go into that set and suddenly discover this golden god of guitar. My minds made up on him and every performance I've seen just validates that opinion. Some people like different things, but that doesn't make their opinion any less informed. But you know, I wouldn't expect some of you Simple Jacks around here to get that.

BTW, I wasn't trying criticize you for not liking JW, I just don't understand it.
How is Dave Grohl winning, I don't get it (No offense Ben)
I didn't vote for him but the dude has longevity and variety. Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures, and now the Sound City stuff.....he's got a bit of a head start compared to the other names.
I fully believe Kanye will be a big legendary name for years to come. Unless we find out he was killing babies or something (watch a rumor start now that he has thought about killing babies) he's going down in music history as a titan of the industry. He still has more to do though.
