I went a few years ago, mkone. A lot has changed since I went but I might be able to help with where to stay and what to do.
Thanks man. Any advice you have would be much appreciated. I have friends living in Spain who arranged a room in a hostel near the festival. I'll get back to you when I have the name of the place. Any tips regarding avoiding crowds/security lines, best spots at stages, or the pre/post festival shows?
We stayed at a hotel about a mile away and walked back and forth. Don't do that. Take a cab. Take the subway. Shit, rent a bike for a dollar. Just don't try and walk back after leaving a festival at 6 am. It just sucks.
That was the first thing that I had to get used to. The festival runs from (about) 6 pm to 6 am. There are 6 stages (not counting the Boiler Room or Adidas Originals stages). The walk from Vice/Pitchfork to the Heineken blows. It's about 15 minutes without tons of people walking already.
The venue sizes run (from smallest to biggest): Outdoor Stages Vice Pitchfork ATP RayBan Sony Heineken
I ended up in the Vice/Pitchfork/Ray-Ban area a lot more than (what is now) the big stages.
Indoor Stage: L'Auditori I can't explain how amazing this venue is. Some of my favorite memories was shows here. Find at least a few shows to take a break to.
My wife and I spent about $50/each per day on food/beer. I'm sure the prices have gone up by now. Don't hold back. Eat your way through Primavera. While there is stands all over the festival, the "food court" is covered. Great place to relax and talk to people. When your mind is blown is seeing guys lug kegs through the crowd selling you pints for two Euros.
Don't think the party stops at 6, either. They do shows at various clubs the week leading up to (and during the festival). These are free with your receipt to the festival. On the days that Privavera goes on at night, they do day shows (usually in a local park). Those tend to be smaller bands but might free up some conflicts.
bonzai turned me onto this and I'll swear by it. $50 for two days of drop off/pick up sightseeing. It was teh best. We wandered La Rambla and the markets in the morning for coffee and pastries and saw sights in the afternoon. If you want any info on that, let me know.
There isn't another festival that touches Primavera Sound. Not Bonnaroo. Not Coachella. Not Lollapalooza. Nothing beats it. It's smaller (think 40k vs 80k) and not hard to get a good sight line at all. Most stages I walked right up on the rail.
You're gonna have such fun. I can't wait to return.

After seeing the line up for Coachella, I went ahead and unloaded my savings for Primavera tickets!
However, I'm a bit confused. Garageland, maybe you can help me out...are the tickets I received in my email inbox scanned everyday for entry? I assumed they would be exchanged for wristbands, but have yet to come across any information indicating so.
You will trade them in for wristbands. I think a few weeks before the festival they post the trade in times. What you have is your conformation. That will get you into the club shows leading up to the festival (before the exchange).
I'm really digging the Coachella line up but I have hopes for Primavera. A lot of what I wanted to see there should cross over.
Tame Impala Belle & Sebastian Ryan Adams Flying Lotus Caribou Todd Terje Mac Demarco FKA Twigs Father John Misty Tycho Swans Built to Spill Angel Olson Sturgill Simpson
Surprised more people aren't talking about Cocteau Twins' name showing up on that poster. If they are in fact getting back together and playing Primavera, the fest automatically wins the "best festival lineup of 2015" distinction
