I've only listened twice, so I'm sure my opinions will change quite a bit, but as of now I find the second half of the album to be much stronger than the first half. Only Memories > Tropics is really great stuff. So much potential for these tracks live.
I'm not a fan of Believe at all. I thought it sounded pretty corny actually
Compound Fracture is definitely the best out of the first 3 songs IMO. I'm really excited to see how each song translates live but especially Only Memories Remain. That groove leaves a lot of room to play around.

I've been struggling the past 30 minutes debating whether to listen to the leak or wait it out. I usually wait for bands I love but this is difficult.. Similar to having nice steak in front of you right after getting your wisdom teeth out.

If you are purchasing it and already giving money to the band, why not just give yourself an early listen?

Yeah people always tell me this. I still like the thrill of going to the store to pick up new albums. I usually cave in and listen early but for whatever reason, I beat myself up over it. Juvenile, I know.

I love the whole album, but "The Waterfall" is something else. The structure alone is impressive, so many different parts coming and going, all just as good as the last. Poignant lyrics. Jim and Carl rippin' some next level licks. And as noted, Bo absolutely kills it with the synth. One part sounds like it was directly lifted from "Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am" and it couldn't fit more perfectly.
And of course "Only Memories" is otherwordly. It sounds like it could have been recorded with Neil during the On The Beach sessions. Possibly the most epically chill tune MMJ has ever laid to tape.
This album completely justifies the six times I plan on seeing MMJ this summer.
I'm liking each song more and more with every listen. Wasn't a huge fan of Believe, but it's such a positive upbeat song! Only Memories Remain has some sweet guitar licks that sound a lot like George Harrison. And all I can think of during get the point is James Taylor haha. Anyone else think In It's Infancy sounds like it could've fit in with Circuital??

This album is so great that even though the new tallest man leaked on the same day, and I love both bands, that I haven't heard a single note of the new tallest man. This album makes me want to see MMJ now, and then again, and again. Three times this summer just doesn't seem like it's enough.

Listened to the new album on the way to work this morning. On first listen, really enjoyed it. Already prefer it to Circuital and likely Evil Urges with another listen or two. It seems much more organic. Grantland.com has an interview with Jim James that's pretty good too.
All the hard work has earned MMJ a reputation as perhaps the most celebrated live act of its generation. The band’s legendary four-hour performance at Bonnaroo in 2008 is still spoken about by some in the sort of hushed tones normally reserved for boomers dusting off their inexhaustible Woodstock anecdotes.
That show will always be my Woodstock. Instant fan for life after that performance. My first MMJ show, too!

Mine too! And I had only just fallen in love with them through the MySpace stream of Evil Urges. But I wish I hadn't partied so damn hard earlier that day. I know I had to leave and puke my brains out no sooner than halfway through their set. Hearin' my fav "Librarian" stumblin' to my camp made me sad.

The 08 show!!! I almost lost my campsite due to flooding because of that show.
My favorite tracks from the live show were Spring, Believe, and In Its Infancy. I listened to the leak after I saw it all live and it's just crazy how next level the songs become when they perform them live.

I camped with two ladies that year and quickly befriended the people around us in the abysmal line in order to have some decent hands available to help set up camp (as my two fellow Roo'ers that year were awfully cute but pretty wet behind the ears). The girls had two shows they were all about seeing that night, and one of the guys strongly encouraged me to join them for the mmj show. Not entirely sure what I was getting into (one of my college friends really dug them and I'd heard wordless, dondante, scream pt 2, a few others in the background hanging out with them but never focused my attention on what I was hearing) yet desperately wanting to remain as cool as any twenty year old believes they are, I joined them. I found myself that night, and I found MMJ too. I remain very thankful, as that was a rare moment where going with the crowd actually paid off.
