Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I want My Morning Jacket to be on the bill but without an official set time. The band would be required to play between 3-5 spontaneous shows per day throughout Centeroo. I'm talking make shift stages, maybe late night in a tent after the last act is scheduled, solar stage, parades, the Christmas Barn, all that.
Then that settles it, pre-headliner. I don't get why a LN which is out of question? Flips played there the last couple of times and they're on the same level IMO.
Has any act gone from LN which to preheadline, back to LN which? That's why it's out I think.

Their crowd size alone wouldn't justify opening up What for a LN set. Phish, Jay-Z? Makes perfect sense. But this kind of goes back to my original argument, this board magnifies MMJ's popularity to an unrealistic level.
I kinda thought moving them back to LN which, would be making that "special" exception. It's not like there's this huge step down from that spot to pre-headliner.

There was a point in time this was true, but I don't think it is anymore. A large number of Bonnaroo attendees are burnt out on Flaming Lips live show. They have decreased in popularity recently.
I'm saying this as someone who would prefer a ln Which, but I really just don't think it is a possibility. People here are underestimating the number of people that a full length Roo show would draw. Thousands of people travel for "special" MMJ shows. Shows like Red Rocks, OBH, NYE, and full length festival sets.
Maybe ppl on inforoo are burnt out on their show, but the which was packed this year for FLips. At least as full as 2010, and more packed than 2007. I dont really think their popularity is waning.
People on here were talking about moving them to a tent prior to the fest this year, and that would have been ludicrous. Looking over from the skrilly skrill sj it was massive.

They played against nick cave, the skrilly jam and frank ocean and it was still stacked.

I highly doubt there's enough people traveling down to Mexico for excursion tours to bump Jimmy Buffett or even My Morning Jacket up to headliner status. Thousands of people flock to Bassnectar's NYE show, but here we aren't talking about him as a potential headliner. Plus, doesn't everyone sellout Red Rocks? (I don't actually know the specifics on that but it just seemed they all do)
Would MMJ's which stage crowd be any larger than Skrillex's? I highly doubt that.
Flips are still a big draw guys. Especially at a festival like Bonnaroo.
Still a big draw sure, but not a band anyone would even argue could headline.
MMJ was #1 at Sasquatch in 2010 and Flaming Lips were #5 in 2011. MMJ has only gotten bigger since and Flaming Lips have at best stalled
Thirty plus fairly successful years matched with a ravenous fan base spanning at least a couple generations. playing the same fest for the third time (?) and pulling in more heads than before. Not sure "stalled" is the best way to describe that sort of progression, though I do agree that they maintain their position to the side of the spotlight - as they always have.
I love MMJ and the flips, can we do a flips 12-2 and then a MMJ sunrise? Every sane body wins!

I feel like this is one of the only places the MMJ argument is made.
Well other than a ton of smaller festivals they have already headlined of course.
But ya Bonnaroo will be My Morning Jackets first major festival headline. Every festival has bands that headline their festival that may not be able to headline other festivals. Look at Phoenix at Coach compared to Lolla and Roo

I mean I get why Bonnaroo did that with Mumford, but MMJ, not so much.

Just out of curiosity have you seen MMJ before and if so when?

Yeah, Jones. Clearly you've never seen them or you wouldn't be saying crazy shit like this.
I love how everyone is assuming that MMJ's next album will be great and boast their mainstream popularity, rather than the rumored bloated two disc affair it's currently rumored to be.
Maybe not, but MMJ on What would have a bigger crowd than Skrillex on what.
Can you explain this? Cause I really don't follow or see why there would be any difference.
There is a certain percentage of people that would be excited for either of them, would see them even though they don't know them, and those that would skip them. Skrillex has a similar number of people that would be excited to see them as MMJ, so they would have similar numbers of people at an oppossed which set, but Skrillex has a much higher number of people that would skip him than MMJ I would imagine hence more people at an unopposed What set for MMJ

The only way to boost popularity is getting a song to go viral. Get it in a movie or big TV show or some junk. Not really what I want but I can't see them blowing up like the Black Keys or Mumford and Sons have in the past few years. Their next album could be amazing but without the mainstream latching on I doubt they make a big jump.
I firmly feel they CAN headline but the real question is would it be worth it for Bonnaroo to have them be #3 or 4 on a lineup. I'm not so sure considering they're the biggest/best band I know that very little people are aware of. At least...people who don't regularly go to festivals.
