I was a massive fan of the Lunar Stage, and I'm really upset I didn't get to experience Kalliope... so I really hope they bring it back. But god I hope they actually book good DJs. I wanna see some heavy techno/legit house music, not the crap they booked on the Lunar Stage in 2010.

Not sure if there's a better thread for this, but what do you guys think about Porter Robinson? I never really paid attention to him but the 4 tracks he's released for his upcoming albums all sound great IMO. I'm really excited for his new album and I think it could translate really well live. Is he too big for a LN tent?

Iv seen him perform 4 times at various festivals. He's okay, he doesnt blow me away or anything. I wouldn't go out of my way to see him at his own show. But he's a solid opener or filler at any fest.

Considering he played LN at roo in '13 and he hasn't blown up since then, I'd say he is still a Tent act for LN

That's what I imagined. I'm just really curious because his new stuff sounds totally different. I don't even see how he can really incorporate his Spitfire EP material into his new tour, I feel like it would just sound awkward.
It would have to something really special to get me to Coachella.
Just pointing out that you don't have to take a time machine to the Shelter in 1998 to find good house music. Plus, considering the solid MOEMS/moog lineups AC put together it's not completely unreasonable to hope Bonnaroo gets it's act together.

Why's that? Genuinely curious, as out of all the "big" fests in the U.S. I think it's generally the best well-run with the best overall lineups. Especially as you seem to like electronic music, I would think that looking for the best blend of electronic plus the other usual festival suspects would lead you in that direction.

Yeah, AC put together great lineups for MOEMS/Moog, and the festival tanked. I'd be stunned if they were like "hey, let's ditch the big room EDM which pulls in tens of thousands of neon bedecked kids in glow bracelets for massive fist pumping sessions for a bunch of nuanced, technical electronic music which couldn't hold a crowd even in an East Coast hipster paradise like Asheville."
I think Bonnaroo is what it is when it comes to electronic/dancey stuff. You'll get some bigger names playing the stuff that appeals to a wide audience, then maybe one or two others like FlyLo, Four Tet, etc. for a few tent shows. I'd love to be proven wrong, but they've more or less followed this exact pattern since they started featuring electronic artists back in 2005.

Wow. You're right. That's not at all what I was expecting. Quite the transition.

It's mostly logistics.
I'm in buffalo. Coachella is very much not in buffalo.
I have four kids. They've all got their own things going on and I need and want to be there for it.
My employer doesn't offer me a lot of vacation time. And between bonnaroo and a few smaller festivals(which I tend to like better anyways) my "me" time is pretty much planned out for the rest of the year.
Would I ever consider not going to TN in June and instead going to Cali in April? Not fucking likely. My life is kind of on it's way to being perfect right now. I'd rather not screw with the formula.

What can I say? I like my house music funky, with horns, and preferably on vinyl.
And I don't dislike all current stuff. There's a lot of good things happening. But, I'm super nostalgic for a cold, dirty warehouse, where the ceiling drips on the tables.

Might be seeing Julio Bashmore at a warehouse show in Brooklyn next week. What you are describing is still alive. Just not at Bonnaroo.

Fun fun.
I don't really expect that kind of atmosphere in a festival setting. That's silly. And Buffalo actually has a pretty good thing going on when it comes to house and techno. So, I get my lullabies often enough.
And damn, I can't help but like (FML) this new Porter track. Got that catchy M83 tone to it.
Yeah for sure, Passion Pit is the first thing that came to my mind. I've been bobbing my head to that new "Flickr" track since it came out too. Someone mentioned it reminded them The Glory by 'Ye which I can kinda see.

I'm not suggesting they're gonna dramatically rework the big names anytime soon. But I could see them making the Christmas barn into an RA style stage, similar to a Yuma. It's kinda a big nothing right now, so it's not like it'd disappoint any current ticket buyers.
A buddy of mine got me on the guest list for Infected Mushroom on Friday. Now I hafta choose between going to that or Bashmore... I would rather see Bashmore because I like him more and have never seen him before. But that show is all the way in Brooklyn which is about 40 extra minutes commute each way that I'd like to avoid... Life is hard =(
