Also on what planet is Jagwar Ma considered "electronic dance music?" Or Grimes for that matter?
Many consider synthpop a subdivision of EDM as a whole. Honestly, who gives a crap about the label as long as the noises being made sound good in your ear holes?
Those people are stupid, because acts like M83 and Chvrches and shit aren't even close to "EDM." They're bands, plain and simple, with songs and verses and lyrics and choruses and instruments and everything. Bands that use electronic sounds in their music aren't suddenly EDM, otherwise we might as well start talking about Radiohead in here.
And Jagwar Ma isn't even synth pop, that's crazy talk. They're much closer to Primal Scream and the Stone Roses than anything else.

I think you are a little too hung up on categorizing music sir.
Acts like M83, MGMT, Passion Pit, Empire of the Sun, ect. have all played at "EDM" festivals like Ultra, HARD Summer, ect. I don't think EDM is exclusively a genre defined by a DJ with a beatpad. Bands can fall into that category as well. Disclosure, Daft Punk, and Moby all have "songs with verses and lyrics and choruses and instruments and everything"; yet they are universally considered part of the EDM genre.
I think an argument can actually be made that Radiohead are at times an EDM act. The sound of Kid A really isn't all that far removed from the material being put out by acts like Flying Lotus, Moby, Pretty Lights, or Boards of Canada.
Oh and Jagwar Ma is totally synthpop.
Jagwar Ma Origin Sydney, Australia Genres psychedelic rock, synthpop, dance, experimental, madchester, alternative dance, triphop,

Uh. Did you just compare Kid A to Pretty Lights?
You know who else performed at Ultra? Pusha T. I had no idea that Clipse was EDM!
And whoever wrote that Wikipedia entry on Jagwar Ma also seems to think they're "trip-hop," which is even crazier than thinking they're a synth-pop band, so I don't know what you think that proves.
Also, it's not that I'm "hung up on categorizing music," it's just that it's kind of stupid to have threads and discussions dedicated to a certian genre and then be like "eh, f*ck it, this is kind of close" and throw everything else in the pot.
Bassnectar, Above & Beyond, M83, Duke Dumont, Porter Robinson, Hot Natured
I'll pass on A&B, their new music absolutely sucks. Their old music and sets, however, were fantastic. Not a huge fan of BN but I understand the appeal. I'll happily take the rest, especially Hot Natured and Dumont.
I can see where you're coming from. I feel A&B are easily interchangeable with *insert top 30 DJ according to DJ mag poll*. I could even see Tiesto taking that spot as he was on the farm in '08. If I had to pick an ideal DJ for that spot though, I would definitely go with Nero or Pendulum (kind of a band but definitely an EDM act).

Oh god Tiesto would be such a waste of a slot. Hopefully Roo avoids booking him and Steve Aoki.

Seriously Juggs. It all kinda sounds the same, I don't know why you're stressing.

Tiesto would be whatever for me. It would give me a good excuse to check something else out. However, Steve Aoki, would just be a travesty for 'roo. The same goes for Avicii.

Silly me. All this time I thought I liked Jagwar Ma because they were an interesting 21st century synthesis of the whole Madchester thing, a modern-day Primal Scream mixed with bits of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, and early Brit-pop. Now I'm realizing that it's because I spent so much time listening to Pre-Millenium Tension.

I like them because the noises they make sound good in my ears. But hey, like whatever you want to like for whatever reason!
2pm or 2am, either would be awesome, but they would be awesome for very different reasons. I would prefer the late night because everyone is far more interested in dancing harder in the middle of the night than the middle of the afternoon.

Bonobo. Live or DJ set, don't care, give this man a 2:30 - 5:00AM slot please.
IDK he is so much better on his albums. The whole using Body Movin by the Beasties is cool, but it got old after a few years as a centerpiece of his show.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

Yeah, I've already seen him with the live band and it let me down because I was obsessed with him before and it just wasn't as good live. But I'd like him on the farm and I would like him on the lineup cause he would draw a decent crowd, eating up a fair amount of people.

As a correction, it is Emancipator I was thinking of not Bonobo. I have seen Bonobo though, and I was astill not impressed, it was fun but I really expected more.

You guys are crazy. This shit is awesome.
THATS THE SHOW I WENT TO!!! I just didn't really dig the show, definitely the weakest of the three HL shows that weekend. But let me say this, I'm not saying it was a terrible show, it just wasn't what I wanted it to be, I can't really explain it (honestly, my expectations were VERY unrealistic due to my obsession with Bonobo at the time)
A buddy of mine is hooking me up with a free last minute ticket to see ODESZA tonight. Pretty awesome!
how was that?
All the shows I went to this weekend were incredible. A lot of people did what I did and went to three days in a row of Odesza, PLM, and then Bassnectar. So it was pretty cool seeing the same people in the crowd each night.
Odesza was pretty great, they actually did their remix of One Day They'll Know by Pretty Lights which was surprising and really brought the house down. The opening act was this guy Hayden James from Austrailia, really dug his sound and I'll definitely be listening to some more.
The PLM show totally stole the weekend for me. The guys from Big Gigantic were there in the crowd just hanging out with everyone and watching the show. Michal Menert was absolutely incredible. That guys energy is off the charts. He and Supervision performed this great mix of his track Arcane and Praise You by Fat Boy Slim. Wound up hooking up with this girl, so yeah just a fantastic night that I really wish I could relive.
Bassnectar was fun, but I don't really dig arena shows. There were way too many bros and young kids there. Still had a good time, but the vibe just wasn't all that great.
This whole weekend convinced me to finally take a trip to Basslights this winter.

Hey now, let's not throw Odesza into the deep shitty depths of the wook edm genre. I'll admit that I initially did based solely on their name and the festivals I they were playing but their new album is one of the best of the year.
And Bonobo w/ his live band is amazing.
And fuck Emancipator. Throw that shit down that deep shitty hole of wook edm.

I don't think the "wooks" that attended their show Thursday and the last time I saw them at Hudson Project, got your memo

Since this is a wishlist, I am gonna throw something in that will never happen. I really wanted to make it to Chicago to see Mr Scruff do his six hour set, and just could not make it. But man give him a set like Sasha and Digweed got in 2007, and minds will be blown.

Yeah, my recall to the WookiEDM was based more on the PLM/Big G nonsense.
