I'm sorry, I should know better, what was I thinking. Skrillex should be above whatever tier calvin is in, or calvin should be dropped down, more than one tier
edit: who do you guys think (if) will be the first edm headliner? excluding daft punk. do you think a non daft punk act could headline? i would have to put skrillex in the front running for what he did there last year. idk who else would be in the running....
Technically, Radiohead was our first electronic headliner (though, neither I nor any other inforooer agrees with that.) But if you're talking EDM, not electronic as a whole, Daft punk is the only one who could do it at the moment but Skrillex/Deadmau5 could perhaps do it in the Kinda near future (especially they billed them like Jay-Z.) I honestly can't think of anyone else that has a shot at it because the rest of the major electronic acts that are worthy of it would only get billed 4-6 at best and pre-HL or LN Which (Portishead, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Boards of Canada, Bassnectar, Aphex Twin, etc.)
excuse my ingnorance but what does billed them like jay-z mean. i know he played there and i see that he did the main stage, but just curious what was different about the billing?
i also agree that there are barely any edm acts that could warrant a main stage. deadmau5 would be possible someday, but i think his tour next year is a 360 tour (not that i think he would headline next year), just speculation.

Jay Z was 4th on the Lineup and played his LN on the What instead of the Which. Also maybe his first half hour or so was totally unopposed if I remember correctly.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
Saw SBTRKT this past Sunday night. It's nuts how he rushes back and forth between multiple instruments. Ezra from Vampire Weekend showed up also and performed New Dorp New York with him. Good time. Unfortunately the next morning I woke up with a fever I'm still fighting off though.

Well I could def see Skrillex getting this treatment in another 2 years honestly. I feel he is more of a general audience draw then deadmau5, not only do i feel that, it's probably a fact (stating my opinions as facts)

Well, most of those acts wouldn't be billed at all, because they won't ever play, but even then I doubt any of them would approach the 4th spot on the lineup.
I wouldn't be shocked at all if someone like Calvin Harris was 4th on the lineup and wound up playing a late night What set. He packs in absolutely massive crowds at his festival sets.

I could see Bassnectar getting a slot like this as well. Honestly it worked out great for me I missed JAy Z, but the tents for Thievery and Dan Deacon had light crowds and you could walk right up to the front.

I think Bassnectar has reached the peak of his popularity. Deadmau5 and Skrillex are acts that appeal to the mall hot topic crowd. The other day I was in Party City and they were actually selling Deadmau5 backpacks and halloween costumes. Bassnectar while fairly comparable to those acts, doesn't expose himself in the way they do.

Just an observation but why are all Euro DJs/producers overly excited and smiley all the time while these 3 Americans are genetic weirdos.

It would be interesting to see what happened if they put bassnectar on the mainstage, I'm sure it'd be packed, but i still imagine a half full field.

I think half a field is all any of the LN What experiments have gotten. Kanye on his no show probably had the most the rest of centeroo was deserted that night.

Now I'm listening to calvin harris because of you lol

Don't you try and pin your mistakes on me.
Somebody has to take the blame for it
I know he fills his sets at festivals, but I personally hope the first main stage edm isn't total cheese and something more along the lines of mau5, nectar, skrill

Jay Z was pretty ridiculously packed if you count him in that category.

Dream bigger man, come on! Daft Punk or bust!
That was part of the original post, excluding Daft Punk, who could actually do it.

Maybe up front, but I went over to Thievery and from the back it was not really that packed from what I remember still it was over 4 years ago.

I was trying to get to Centeroo and was looking for someone on the way. I started to think I wasn't going to make it out alive. Saw nature boy and latched onto him get to Centeroo. It was packed all the way to the back.

Yeah that was the unopposed part when it started after Nature Boy and I left it had calmed down. So I was there with you for the first part of Jay-Z, cause I know I left there with him.

I'm not a huge fan of having a lot of EDM artists at festivals....don't get me wrong, I like a lot of electronic music, but my thing is that at a festival everyone is tired as shiz most of the time so it makes it hard to really get into an EDM show and dance a bunch.

Idk man, that's like saying, "we will have no fun, danceable music all weekend because y'all are probably tired and we want to make sure that doesn't change." I get what you're saying bet plenty of people have no problem dancing the entire weekend (2013 was undoubtedly the most I've ever danced in 4 days) But I do think that what you're saying should/does play into the way bands are scheduled but their should be upbeat acts through the entire weekend for those that aren't too tired.

I understand where you are coming from but I'm kind of the opposite. I need high energy music to keep me going, whether that be EDM or rock or whatever. I cannot stand around and listen to Real Estate after dark.

My fiancé is the same way. If there weren't dancy acts playing after dark, she probably wouldn't be going to Roo with me every year.
Just discovered Parov Stelar and "Electro Swing" and must say im diggin it.
Yes! I tried to get my friends on board with Parov Stelar months ago and they were not having any of it
I was checking out this thread and decided to YouTube some Parov Stelar since I'd never heard of him. I'm sure he's not for everyone, but I enjoyed what I heard! He'd certainly be fun on the farm.
