Not a lot I've seen this year from the lists...
North America: 6. U2 | 35. Steely Dan | 42. Lorde | 46. Cirque Du Soleil-"Corteo" Worldwide: 10. U2 | 56. Steely Dan | 67. Lorde | 78. Arcade Fire | 79. Cirque Du Soleil-"Corteo" |
A few shows that appear on the list(s) that I have coming up in next few months: Rod Stewart, David Byrne, Jay-Z/Beyonce

Found a Top 50 North American tours (annually) of all-time list in last year's report. Numbers are how many millions of dollars the tour grossed that year in North America alone.

Not as many as I would have expected. I'm a bit surprised none of Paul McCartney's recent tours made the list.
I was supposed to see the Roger Waters 2017 tour in February, but we went to Hawaii instead. I'm okay with that decision, just a bit annoyed I couldn't resell my $300 ticket. Why you gotta add more dates, Roger?!

I think it would be cool if they did one that was inflation adjusted. Since ticket pricing has outpaced inflation it may just mostly be these same tours shuffled around but still curious to see. Also a worldwide list would be cool too.

surprised that Pink is the highest grossing act of the year so far. i also don't know who Luis Miguel is. everything else in the top ten makes sense.
It’s partly to do with her total number of shows. The gross per show is a more interesting figure to me, especially since it gives you a sense of what a festival would have to shell out to book a given act. Taylor Swift is raking.
I wonder how much Taylor has in overhead, its a pretty massive show from what I have seen.

i'm curious about profitability as well. i know U2 brings in the revenues but their expenses must be astronomical.
reading an article a new (pretty sweet) venue in Houston ran today using Pollstar data.
“Our expectations were we were gonna sell 250,000 tickets in year five,” Smart Financial Centre President Gary Becker tells me when I ask him about expectations versus reality at the Sugar Land venue. He continues, “and we sold 326,000 tickets in year one.”
"according to Pollstar, the Smart Financial Centre was the twelfth best-selling theater in the world in 2017. Those same ticket sales would put it in the top 15 percent of the world’s amphitheaters and top third in the world’s arenas."
Since it opened I've seen the Moz, Slayer, Hans Zimmer, happy to hear it's doing really well.

Was not expecting Pearl Jam to be doin $4.6 mil per show. And hopefully all the dummies who were saying Drake’s tour wasn’t selling well will read this.

Those numbers are pretty skewed this year. Only 7 North American Shows, 6 in Safeco/Wrigley/Fenway, average gross of 5.9 million each.
I think I'm always surprised at how popular Pink still is. Not hating, just surprised.
My sister who's not really into music but sees one or two big arena shows a year thinks Pink was the best performance she's seen, over stuff like Beyonce/U2/Bruno Mars, etc. Apparently it's a big ol spectacle with her flying across the crowd while singing and whatnot.
Bonnaroo isn't on the festivals list (nor are many other fests you'd expect to be) so maybe don't they report their financials but seems reasonable to guess they make around $25 million off the ticket sales, right? Simply unfathomable how much Coachella does! I don't know how they possibly accommodate 99,000 people in a space smaller than Bonnaroo. I went back in 2009 and I think they were selling about 60-70,000 then and it was already quite crowded.
Not a new phenomena but still frustrating that they can't have a more representative list of fests.
Personally saw more than I expected to from the North America list. 8 Acts in top 100 (though not many super highly placed) then 7 more to make 15/200. (Parentheses is placement on international list)
