"The quarter’s 9,625 shows is an over 800% increase over Q4 2020’s 1,109 and nearly 60% of Q4 2019’s 16,581 shows. Q4 2021’s average gross per show, tickets sold per show and ticket price, however, surpassed Q4 2019. Its $221,278 average gross was 38.9% greater than 2019’s $159,262. And while the quarter’s average tickets per show of 2,825 beat 2019’s 2,326 by 21%, its average ticket price of $78.30 was 14.4% greater than 2019’s $68.46 explaining the greater average revenues."
So in other words 40% less supply translated to $10 more per ticket demand compared to 2019. A more apples to apples comparison might be to compare acts that were touring in both 2019 and 2021 (particularly those without new music) to see how much their ticket prices were up. I suspect on an individual basis it is often probably more because many of these acts are probably filling the shoes of bigger acts that are still sitting out the pandemic.
* From North American Top 200 lists 2019 & 2021; at least 10 shows in each year to be included below
Rolling Stones | #1--#1 | $226--$223 Dead & Co. | #12--#5 | $126--$85 Guns & Roses | #63--#7 | $122--$134 Dave Matthews Band | #27--#8 | $76--$78 Phish | #42--#9 | $69--$77 Jonas Brothers | #6--#10 | $106--$80 . . . Lauren Daigle | #119--#43 | $50--$53 Alabama | #99--#47 | $72--$76 Jo Koy | #188--#48 | $50--$62 SuicideBoy$ | #189--#49 | $50--$50 ZZ Top | #79--#50 | $59--$62
I may look at more later but need to head off to work now. So far appears artists did get big bump up the rankings but not seeing big uptick in prices so not sure where the extra $10 average is coming from then??
Billboard boxscore reported the BTS gross for the 2 Nov shows. 106,000 tickets sold with a gross of 16.5 million. So lets just double that and that $33 million figure that was mentioned earlier is right on the money. So 212k tix sold with that gross makes the average ticket price to be $155.
is your coworker 9 years old or maybe 104 years old?
same age as me
maybe this could be the start of like a cool movie where you introduce your lame co-worker to rock and roll music. teach them to smoke weed and party, and they teach you to like be good in school.
Billboard box scores for nov 2022 to end of april 2023. Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Coachella are missing of course. Im sure Bad Bunny's numbers might go up a smidge if that counted also.
I was going to say being in Trans-Siberian Orchestra has to be one of the most lucrative gigs in music but apparently they have 36 members right now so maybe not.

Sheesh…the Elton John tour is the only one off this list I have seen post-pandemic. Usually I am good for a handful in the top 10 or 20 of a given year. Please feel free to share this data in here any time you like since pollster has essentially paywalled all of theirs now.

Theres ways around that.
And Elton is gonna finish his tour at over $900 million which is the highest all time.

Depeche Mode being that high is the biggest surprise for me. And while I knew obviously Phish shows are well-attended, didn't think about how much money they would bring in.
Morgan Wallen's 2 nights at Ohio Stadium being 16th highest boxscore is gross.
Live Nation absolutely raking it in. Making more than the rest of the top 10 combined is bananas.

Dynamic pricing is a bitch.
Also to note that Coachella doesnt report their numbers anymore and Outside Lands is seemingly the top grosser.
