I just hope all the 16 and 17 year old kids play it safe and get a fake ID that makes them 19. Going the full distance for 21+ is just too risky.
Newly hired Ultra Music Festival Security Director and former Miami Beach Police Chief, Ray Martinez, further expressed his optimism towards the decision:
“The first step to having fun is feeling safe,” Martinez said, “We have chosen to adopt several new measures during next year’s festival to ensure our event is safe and secure. The first step to preserving the unique atmosphere that Ultra is famous for is to be proactive in attracting the right crowd.”

Sure, I believe a retired cop will know both how to prevent kids from doing drugs and preserve the atmosphere of Ultra. Cops have been essential to retaining the core spirit of EDM music. Kandi bracelets were first worn by SWAT teams in the early 90s.

Cop 1: "Looks like the kiddos are having a safe time. But most importantly, I think we've really preserved the unique atmosphere of this place." Cop 2: "Agreed. My shift is over in a half hour and then I'm going to check out Steve Aoki. I hope he throws some cake in my face"

If anyone wants a little less cheese, the resistance stage is streaming live all weekend at be-at.tv all weekend. Saw some real good stuff yesterday on it. Have a couple friends down there who said its a pretty nice setup too
I was just coming here to say the same fucking thing.
In 94 / 95 electronic music was a revolution for me. From fan, to promoter, I had a long love affair.
Tonight, in one moment, I lost a lot of hope.
As bad as this recent wave of bullshit music has been, there were some moments of hope. Tonight, Justin Beiber lip synched a song to close out the seminal electronic music festival in the US.

I don't get what everyone is so upset about. Beiber and Ultra seem like a great fit. Isn't pressing play and fist pumping behind the DJ setup the equivalent of lip synching anyway?

What a fucking joke.
you need to relax, pal.
Yeah Yeah, I've been a bit melodramatic about the whole thing. When you spend nearly a decade of your life pouring blood sweat tears and money into something only to see it bastardized to such a level, it really leave a sting. Imagine, for a moment, that Miley Cyrus headlined Bonnaroo. It's kind of like that.
If you were sitting through a live stream of Skrillex and Diplo at Ultra, Justin Beiber rolling up is the least of your problems.
I checked in for the Netsky feed, which was actually rather good. Prydz followed that up, which was really good. Then I turned on The Walking Dead for my zombie fix, and my good friend and my 12 year old, like Skrillex. I personally like Diplo, and didn't expect him to pop in, but wasn't let down that he did. The Jack U stuff aint bad. The follow up to that of Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Dip Shitty, whatever his name is, trumped by Justin "boy do I look really odd these days" Beiber lip synching. Those were two WTF, everybody watch out for that shark, moments, that I sort of cant fathom still happened.

I don't imagine your nearly as committed as you are acting if shit like ultra matters to you. theres plenty of great electronic music being made which you wont find anywhere near something like ultra, so who really cares? like I love punk rock but I don't get all bent out of shape because of the fucking warped tour.

I like some of what Diplo and Skrillex do as well as some of their collaborative efforts. Some of it annoys me. Are you saying they played "down" to the crowd there? I'd assume they'd play different sets at more musically advanced festivals such as Electric Forest, Wakarusa or Bonnaroo than what you'd get at Ultra or Electric Daisy Carnival. So was it that bad that you would put it below a Justin Bieber lip sync session? Or were you saying if someone was actually going through the physical act of streaming Ultra, they essentially suck?

My point is that people need to manage expectations. I think Diplo is fairly decent, but he's made no bones about marketing himself to lowest common denominator douchebags.
