Sorry I don't follow of the crowd in regards to My Morning Jacket, Run the Jewels and Widespread Panic...Bro, but thanks for showcasing your detective skills for us instead of just explaining the appeal of them

I, for one, am glad to have been informed of just exactly what sort of place such a bad opinion is coming from

el-p is a really good producer, he's been making unique sounding tracks for years all the way back to company flow. on the whole he is a producer/MC that has had cred for a long time but hasn't really achieved crazy critical popularity until this little run the jewels mix tape which just exploded. I think long-time fans of el-p are thrilled to see his recent success.
Overall the attitude of RTJ is ultra aggressive. Its intense and unapologetic high-energy music, which when contrasted with a lot of the weak-ass low energy shit being held up by critics as genius makes RTJ all the more attractive to listeners. It's good party music.
Couple that with the fact that el-p and killer mike don't take themselves too seriously (see their recent AMA) and the music becomes not only high energy but also fun and ridiculous. Its cool to see a group that not only creates crowd pleasing tracks but also achieves critical acclaim.
If you don't like RTJ2 check out the first tape. The eponymous track and "Sea Legs" are good ones to start with. If you have listened to all their stuff and just don't like it then thats cool too.
I know I'm going to be in the minority on here about this but I just don't understand the extreme love for Run the Jewels. Tried listening to numerous songs and it wasn't for me at all
No worries, it happens there is even a thread for it link. Mine is Animal Collective just doesn't click for me.

Great Run Down. Like you stated, as a long time Def Jux fan, I love seeing the success of El-P! I just wish Aesop was getting the same hype.. That Hail Mary Mallon album is sick! For me, its some of the only american hip hop I can listen to. If you like fun party hip hop, check out some Aussie stuff like Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso, and Thundamentals... I would freak out if Bonnaroo booked any of them!

Thanks! I will be sure to start from there. Thanks for the insight instead of just quacking all over me for stating I didn't get em!

I know. I was going to respond all kindly like.. Run the Jewels record doesn't come out as great as the live show because really it's a rappity rappity rap record and in a lot ways that doesn't go over as well here. But so much to unsee... too much to unsee

what, you've never gone to IMDB and clicked some dumb ass's name to see what kind of shit taste he has in movies that he's praising "boxing helena"?
Sometimes I forget how under represented other types of music can feel on the farm
Roo had a JAZZ TENT in 2007! Remember that?!
This is one of the main reasons I don't go to Roo every year. People that listen to only one style of music annoy the shit out of me, and a fest that specifically caters to those people isn't going to get nearly $1,000 out of me unless it looks stupid good.
The atmosphere at Roo is amazing, no doubt about it, and the lineups are great... but usually there are other regional fests with much more eclectic lineups whom I would rather support.

How did you like the "world music" tent last year? I thought Dakhabrakha and La Santa Cecilia put on some of the best shows I saw at Bonnaroo last year and I'd love if they brought that back again this year.

I think it's definitely a step in the right direction, just like the jazz tent was, and it would be even cooler if some of these musical outposts became regular staples of the fest. Why take away a "world" stage or "jazz" tent? I enjoy stumbling upon music that I've never heard or experienced when I'm at a fest, and sure a lot of other people do too.
Unfortunately didn't get to attend last years Roo (been going semi-regularly since '06), but I really dig a lot of the bands that played the tent. It definitely gets my attention.
Edit: Sorry for getting this thread so off topic. Edit 2: And for the record, I would really dig seeing Belle & Sebastian at Roo.

2008 they had the New Orleans jazz pop-up tent too. You had to make a donation to get in.

I'm interested to hear what local, regional fests are more diverse than Bonnaroo - diversity is the reason I go to Bonnaroo - it's such a diverse fest IMO, although it has gotten a bit less diverse over the last few years. But the regional fests are usually all jam or all jazz/blues or all EDM. Roo def needs to add some more jazz and have a jazz tent though.

So to bring this back on topic, what do we have now in addition to the OP? I haven't been around a lot and came here hoping for news. It looks like we also have the top 4 as Billy Joel, Mumford & Sons, Kendrick Lamar, and Deadmau5. We also know Florence + the Machine will be there. Have I missed any? It wouldn't surprise me since I've been so absent, I'm just trying to catch up.

Insider also said Bassnectar is 90%. I don't know how that should be incorporated into the OP (if it even gets updated), but I figured I should drop that here too.
