Excuse my ignorance but how do we know that this latest round of bands which has been confirmed are truly confirmed? Who figured it out? How did they figure it out. I feel like I'm missing something!

Insider confirmed Billy Joel, Mumford, Kendrick and Deadmau5 today along with Florence and the Machine yesterday. They have a track record of relaying legit information. Launchpad has backed this up from an alternate source. Launchpad has confirmed MMJ from his source. He was right about the early line-up for Roo and the lineup announcement for Gov Ball. El-P confirmed Run The Jewels via twitter.
I'm not seeing where Insider confirmed Kendrick just looking at her posts. FYI: I am 44 pages behind on the headliner thread now after just catching up this morning. Fuck that gotdamn thread, I don't have time for it because of work.

Just curious, who will be genuinely excited if our top four reads Billy Joel * Mumford & Sons * Kendrick Lamar * Deadmau5?
That is exactly what it will read.
Let me clarify on me saying 'out' for MMJ.......that is only based upon me knowing those top 4 and assuming if MMJ was there, they would be up with those 4.
I'm interested to hear what local, regional fests are more diverse than Bonnaroo - diversity is the reason I go to Bonnaroo - it's such a diverse fest IMO, although it has gotten a bit less diverse over the last few years. But the regional fests are usually all jam or all jazz/blues or all EDM. Roo def needs to add some more jazz and have a jazz tent though.
Here in the southeast, there are tons of regional & local fests. Very few have such a diverse lineup, but you also have to take into consideration the price. On average it costs me around $1,000 to go to Roo. That includes ticket, transportation, food, supplies, head-candy, etc.
Do you have any idea how many local shows and regional festivals that $1,000 would pay for?! I could attend smaller events (of all genres) throughout the entire spring and summer for the same price it would cost to go to Roo.
Like it or not, Bonnaroo has become a destination festival for people with tons of money to spend, and so far, the confirmed 2015 lineup only re-enforces that.
"All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone.. the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -- Marcel Duchamp
Just a simple reminder: Confirmation (noun): Something that confirms, as a corroborative statement or piece of evidence Speculation (noun): Ideas or guesses about something that is not known
newjack: Show Strand of Oaks back on Set 22 in KC and asked Tim if they were playing Bonnaroo in 2015 , his comment was "count on it." Sep 16, 2014 at 10:28am
Is there a top line that wouldn't disappoint a majority of people anymore that doesn't include one of the almost ungettables (i.e. Prince, Daft Punk, Rolling Stones)? You'll get those acts once in a blue moon (i.e. McCartney), but you can't expect that every year. I think Elton John and Billy Joel are still somewhat creative and grabs like Mumford and Deadmau5 bring in the masses (and thus the money to get us kick ass undercards).

I mean as much as people are complaining, Billy Joel is a once in a lifetime person to see. Outside of McCartney and "Hey Jude" can you think of a sing-a-long that would be more highly anticipated and attended by a headliner then "Piano Man"? I actually prefer him over Prince and others. I guess it's just taste but you have to look at it in context. What other festivals is Billy Joel headlining? ever really.

There is probably a reason for that. I doubt many festivals have reached out to Joel about playing. He is good at what he does. I just never pictured him playing a camping festival for sure. If I had never been to Bonnaroo and didn't know about the experience of the fest, seeing him on top of the card would probably have me going somewhere else unless the undercard just blew me away. Florence, Deadmau5, Alabama Shakes, etc, while good, would not lure me to Tennessee for four days.
I saw Billy Joel at Jazzfest in 2013. I thought he was pretty boring in comparison to Macca & Elton. I left halfway through and caught the last half of Andrew Bird.

You thought something was boring so you decided to go see Andrew Bird instead? ???

I think Billy Joel deserves a headlining spot for sure. I grew up listening to him. He's a legend, not McCartney but a legend none the less, I was just thinking if we got him he would be 2nd or more likely 3rd.

My other choices were pretty meh (Ben HArper or Jill Scott) or shit that I had already seen before (Charles Bradley). I had never seen Andrew Bird before. He was actually pretty good live.

I think people would put Elton and Joel in the same category. And if Elton headlined last year I would think Billy would be the main headliner this year. I guess maybe they didn't think that this groundswell would happen of people unsatisfied with the current headliners. I'm curious to see what the general masses would think though if there is no other name added. Is it just us here on the boards feeling one way or is that the general consensus.

Honestly I was really hoping for Radiohead again (2012 was amazing) since they have a new album in the works. Would have been pretty happy with the Black Keys too.
But DeadMau5... really... a headliner at Bonnaroo... And Mumford... Meh. Hell, how the hell is Kendrick a headliner? I've never seen him perform for more than an hour. Just can't picture him with a headlining set, his tent set in 2012 was better than any headlining set by him could ever be.
I think that most that might be disappointed in Joel (I'm talking the general masses here) will look past that name and get excited for at least one of the next 3.
Plus, who are the headliners everyone is holding out for exactly (and more importantly are those acts actually performing anywhere else this summer).

OK, but is there any whiff of Radiohead performing anywhere this summer? How do you book a band that isn't touring.
