Presale began this morning and I bought my VIP ticket. I was thinking about skipping it, but my MJ crew GroupMe was going nuts and I ended up pulling the trigger. VIP w/ camping is currently $599 which ended up to be about $620 with fees. They offered a 3-month payment plan for 6 bucks which I opted for since I just dropped $1,000 on my car last week...

MJ has a "college street team". I emailed them a week ago to see if there is anyone who is above college age can get street team options (or if I can finagle my way in because I work at a college and there are many more colleges in my area). No response so far. Stupid heads.

I'm not too much of a hoper or predictor. I usually just follow along until lineups are dropped. In fact, last year in the MJ thread I said there was no way that Phish would be there and popped his head in and said it was the first prediction that he ever saw me make.

Same as last year I guess. I'll apply and see if I'm now important enough to get a rejection email instead of just ignored lol
Sounds a lot like my summer festival season. LOL
They were the only fest I didn't get a response from last year. Approved for all others with 1 confused publicist who approved, declined, then approved us again without telling us. (withholding festival name on that one)

The Black Keys booking doesn't seem out of the ordinary musically. We're not talking about Gathering of the Vibes here. From a pop (and probably budget) standpoint, it looks a bigger get than the Avetts, MMJ, and Steve Winwood.
Yeah, I am not a big Black Keys person, but I was in for this no matter what. I actually really enjoyed moe. at Wanee this year and am looking forward if that continues.

Additionally, the festival has been responding to a number of comments in reference to last year's arrest situation. They said the following: "We are doing our absolute best to ensure that both our on-site security and local law enforcement do not get in the way of your wonderful experience with us at Mountain Jam 2015! People should not be busted unnecessarily and we are working on making sure your experience is better next year and in years to come!"

What were the arresting issues last year? I probably heard/read about it but forgot. Was it arresting people at the festival itself or chekcpoints on the road or something?
D. All of the above. The road (supposedly- I've never seen them) is always full of checkpoints, but yeah the security was nutso this year. People were livid. Security going through every last pocket, even taking away packaged snacks and things. Obviously that leads to more arrests. I think there were like 50.
VIP is lucky. On Thursday we have to go through a regular entrance because of vendors and such pulling in, but after they let us walk in through the side. Zero search and full drinks every time. My worry is that they are using RFID chips this year. I doubt they'll have a full scan booth on the side entrance (really we just walk up a road), so I REALLY hope they get a hand scanner...

They had undercover going through crowds just looking specifically for smokers

Such a shame. I loved my Mountain Jam experience because it felt really laid back. They used to only check you going into the main part if you had a bag.

We'll see. I seem to remember hearing the same kind of things after a lot of complaints from longtime festival-goers about some of the people searching at the gates. I don't think those complaints were from last year but I could be wrong.

Let's be real, searches at the gate is a common complaint no matter what the festival or year.

Definitely, but the people I had talked to who had gone for years to the festival were complaining that they were significantly worse/more invasive than previous years.
The year I went for three days (2012), I was sneaking a bunch of beers inside my lawn chair and in the pockets of my winter coat (remember it was damp and in the 50s). Never had a problem with that.
