Anyone there able to report in? I am really curious to see how "special" both The National and Bon Iver shows are since it's their own festival.
I have friends there as well and will try to get a report. Looks like a well presented festival for the first go. Crowds look small, screens on tents, some art installations. Lineup isn't my style, but my friends are big fans of half the bands, so I can see it being a great time.
I wish so so badly I could've somehow made it to this festival. Sufjan and Bon Iver headlining something together.... Gah. I hope some good quality videos turn up!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
-had a great time -it was a smaller festival -sound at the main stage was "pristine" and best he had heard in a long time -audiences were respectful during the performances (little chatting, mainly people having fun and singing along) -local beer mostly from MN or WI -people arrived and departed by bus mainly... mostly good but Saturday there was a long wait to go back -lot of great acts and some great collaborations between acts

I went. Stayed in the dorms. With the storms that rolled in Friday night/Saturday morning I'm so glad I did. I heard some people lost their tents and had to sleep in the campground offices.
Tons of collaborations, Sufjan and Justin Vernon came out for The National's set. Like half the lineup came out for Bon Iver's set. Bon Iver played some new songs. A lot of the bands just hung out on the grounds. I met The Tallest Man on Earth while we stood next to each other near the back of the crowd for Collin Stetson. There were 3 domes with "art installations" in them. They housed a bunch of small surprise pop up shows and even had the MN rapper Astronautalis running a confession (yes, all you Catholics, that confession) booth.
My only complaints were some line issues. It took longer than necessary to get into the gates. Staff scanned your ticket and physically put your wrist band on for you. Somewhat limited food options so lines for food got to be really long.
But in my opinion it was really reasonably priced. I paid $135 ($152 after fees) for my ticket and my dorm room ran about $55 bucks a person for the 3 nights we stayed there after we broke it down per person.
I also felt like the bands were way more gracious to be there compared to any festival I've ever been to. They all had said something about how they've never been involved in something so cool. And Justin Vernon cried on stage thanking us. So that's pretty cool.

Kinda excited to check out some other fests this summer, anyone have any clues about this one?
i live in Minneapolis so this is only 90 minutes away. I had a conflict and wasn't able to attend last year and really regret it.
This year it is scheduled for August 12-13.
Since it is curated by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National, you have to expect them to bring in another solid lineup.
Yeah, last year's lineup was pretty amazing for my tastes, hard to imagine they could beat it. I'm excited to see them try though! Also I didn't know Vernon and Dessner were curating it again, so that should be awesome.
