"Stepping into the Monterey County Fairgrounds for the California Roots Music & Arts Festival is an experience like nothing else. The moment you walk through the festival gates you enter a place separate from the outside world - a heavenly playground filled with sweet sunshine, amazing music, peaceful vibrations, and a strong sense that you just discovered the happiest place on earth.
The vibe inside the festival is unique and special - a perfect blend of music, art, freedom and celebrating life to the fullest. Along with the jaw-dropping lineups of outstanding music every year, this festival is a place filled with wonderful surprises - no matter what your vibe is, we’ve got something you’ll love here.
To see the passion in a live painter’s eyes while they furiously touch their brush to the canvas - to laugh under the early-summer shade of a beautiful tree with your best friends - to smile while walking through the enchanting festival marketplace - to sit under the moon and the stars, and feel a deep connection with everyone and everything around you, as good vibes from the music slow life down and grant you a moment of the highest possible joy… this is California Roots."
Some people read that and think, "You can fuggin' kill me before I'd go to that". And other people read that and think, "That sounds pretty cool."
I'm not a hippie because I bathe. I'm not a millennial, despite what Zen thinks. I'm certainly not a dance master. That makes me a folkie or other. Hrmmmm.

noun 1. Also called panda. a large glassed mammal, Ailuropoda melanoleuca, related to the auditeur and inhabiting the high sea oat dunes of southern North America. lovable, but prone to sadness when disappointed.
You've made my night! I should have squeezed your boob when I was writing on it.
As a northerner, its a beach. It's no more humid than Ocean City, Myrtle Beach or any of the popular beaches. It is HOT. Like really hot. This year wasnt bad with the cloud cover some of the day but it was still sweltering for a northerner. Two years ago we barely survived the heat. Stay hydated. As for the crowd, I have had very minimal issues with anyone in the years that I have gone.
Edit: Also, the beaches are like nothing you will find anywhere else. Its pretty much beach perfection. And the weather has always been near perfect as well.
'11 was the only scorcher to me, but i think that's because it was the only year we weren't within walking distance...i.e. pool/ocean breaks.
solidrock and moten are right. Everything is relative. To me, it's not humid because I live where the average relative humidity in May (on a good day) is almost 90%, and it's less than that at the beach. Having said that, the only time I've ever been miserable at Hangout was when my group ended up staying at a condo that was a mile + away and I didn't have a bike to ride back and forth to the gate. Lesson learned. We now rent as close to the gate as possible, and if there's any distance at all, we bring bikes.
Once you're in the festival, the only time you'll be miserable (in PA terms) is when you're on the asphalt or on your way to the festival. Once you're in, there are misting stations, ac'd vendor tents and beach access to use to cool off. Or, you could just stand really close to Bob. He radiates coolness.

Oh yeah. It's almost impossible to be miserable at Hangout Fest. I missed last year and I teared up on the beach during Jamell because I was back in music/party/vacation paradise.
Someone named Rummy is pushing all the Roo threads up there. So, doing my part for Hangout.
Chick making me blush this morning. Unless there is another Bob???
I have had a pretty good time at all festivals, concerts, musical events I have been to since the 1970s except three visits to Bonnaroo. Granted, I am in my fifties and most folks seem to be able to deal with the camping, heat, crowds better in younger skin. The Hangout is definitely the festival for folks who can afford it. It is easy on your body and mind. Cool ocean breezes, king size bed with shower and view of the gulf from your condo deck. If you get hot at the show, walk a few hundred paces and jump in the pool. Great music. Far less crowded and dirty than Bonnaroo. I have come back from Bonnaroo with sinus infections, backache, and other maladies. I come back from Hangout with a smile on my face, great memories and decent tan.
Definitely should send HOMF a note about adding Vintage Trouble and Alabama Shakes...along with Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB).
Charlie Daniels is on Ticketmaster for Volunteer Jam in August (12th?) this summer at the Nashville arena. Volunteer Jam used to be the best concert of the year in Nashville with all sorts of the best musicians in southern rock and others. Gonna check into that one.....and it is in the air conditioning. Charlie is a legend so expect a lot of really good musicians to show up and support him.

When looking at all the other lineups I really do like this one more and more. It was a great year top to bottom. Especially when you consider how great the schedule panned out for everyone. A few other fest seemed stronger til you look at the schedul conflicts and realize you won't see half the bands you planned on. glad I didn't miss thisn it was a goodn!!

I have decent (300 dpi) digital copies of 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 that can be used to print either tabloid (11 x 17) or legal (8.5 x 14). If anybody wants any of them, PM me with your email address and which ones you want and I'll send them as PDF's that you can have Staples, Office Depot or FedEx print up for you.

I have all of the last three years. The only two I don't have are 2010 and 2012. I can create on for 2012, but I'm not sure how good the quality will be.

I think I over estimated my ability to email these big a** files more than one or two at a time. Here are links that you can use to download the one(s) you want.

Hmmm...To wear pants, or not to wear pants. That's definitely NOT the question here.
If they do come to Hangout 2016, I'm standing WAAAAYYYY back.
