True true.
I forgot to shoutout to people I met! Solid: I was a bit out of mind Wednesday night but it was great to meet ya, and again on Thursday Chick: Love the hospitality! We'll always stop by to hangout Krisp: Cool we briefly met here and there n hung w your crew a bit. Hope to see ya at acl Zaj: Another good dude w a cool crew. Esteban: We technically met already but I appreciate offerin' up space to rest in NOLA
That was a good one! Need more like this next year. There were definatly sound issues but not enough to ruin the show.
We're you at this one? Sound seemed off at times in the video. I'd love for them to be back in 2017, along w STS9, Diarrhea Planet as returners but...who knows. The only rockin harder shit this year was Foals for sure, followed by I guess Bass Drum, HEALTH, Silversun, Bully, C Barnett but nothing quite dark like QOTSA.
With that being said, I bought ACL weekend II tickets this morning. 4 Headliners Id want to see that I know I can skip the EDM that will be competing (Radiohead, Mumford, Kendrick Lamar, LCD) + Willie Nelson. 2nd chance at Miike Snow, another chance to see Foals, plus LL Cool J will be dope. Add in M83, Nathaniel Rateliff, Local Natives, A Paak, Flying Lotus. Bomba Estero is on the line up so Ill be looking out for Big Will again! Fuck being at work. krisplettuce you goin?
EDIT: Did Foals play Birch Tree at Hangout? I swear I don't remember hearing that song.
Yes, we were to the right of the sound board. It was very windy that night and I think that had an effect on the sound. Surf stage was underpowered that year. Still a great set though, then had Modest Mouse the next night. This year Foals was by far the best rock set as many have said and PTM was good except for that dude in the MTV shirt. I'd love to make it to Austin to see Radiohead. It would be a last min. call if we were able to make it.

Moten34 (Ryder Christian) was born this morning at 8:27 am EST.
OMG! He's GORGEOUS! That swaddling thing has me thinking. I wonder how big of a flask you can hide in a diaper before it becomes obvious it's not just a load of creamed spinach Junior just recycled...

Sorry if I forgot anyone!
I'm yet to meet Esteban in person, but he offered me a place to crash for Buku last year as well. By far the coolest dude on this board. esteban you're getting a beer from me at a festival one of these days!
I know this is super late, but I am bored so here goes....
My impressions of Hangout 2016:
Logistics: Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly all weekend. Lines not too long for drinks or food or bathrooms. Water station had the slowest lines, because the water flowed so slowly. It was crowded but most of the time not a problem. The only show I felt the overcrowding work against me was Cage the Elephant (I skipped because I was so far back). The shuttle service was great, never too long of a wait. I loved the trough like urinals in the men's pissers...made it super quick. And I thought they handled the Friday morning storm very well, kept everyone safe and adjusted schedule. I was impressed. Overall I was pleased logistically but some improvements could be:
1) sound on Surf. Sound here suffers badly if you are not in front of the audio/lighting shed. They need repeaters here. It just didn't seem to be that bad last year. Alabama Shakes was especially bad when we were over on the ocean side of the crowd and back a bit.
2) separate lines at entrance for men and women being clearly marked, or having more female security to check women. It took forever for women to get thru security and was causing a log jam on the east side a couple of times.
3) drink selections ran out too early on a couple of days. Don't know how you are not fully stocked.
4) The gravel at the AXSTV stage sucks. At least cover it with some astro turf or something. (this is nitpicky I know)
Vendors/non-music attractions: I didn't do much of this...its just not why I go to festivals. But I did think the food was better and in a better location this year. And I really dug the Fireball booth...those concoctions were quite tasty. The merch tent is in a weird location and didn't have a big enough selection of artists stuff...and an over abundance of Hangout stuff.
Stages: Audio issues at Surf as stated above. Didn't mind the BMI stage being on the beach. Malibu tent was hot as balls, could have used some AC or some big ceiling fans for sure. Boom Boom tent had great sight lines as always, AXSTV stage was good except for the gravel, but does have some grass to chill in. I only saw a little of one show at the Restaurant stage (whatever that is called) at it seemed fine.
Friday shows: Hippie Sabotage: they were on Boom Boom right when we went in, so we checked them out for a few minutes...was into it but that might have just been the excitement of finally getting in the gates. I saw the video a few weeks ago of their assault on security at a festival, so I guess we won't have to worry about them much longer. It was bad.
Big Grams: alot of fun...I like the output that comes from mixing those two sounds...good start to the weekend.
Moon Taxi: I really dug them more than I thought I would. Good sound, good energy. I would like to catch them again sometime.
Snails: Again, dug him more than I thought I would....got down hard.
Alabama Shakes: Started out over by the ocean and the sound was bad...we moved to the other side and got closer and it was much better...good show, Enjoyed it.
Chainsmokers: put on a great show, good flow, crowd was live...they converted me into being a fan.
Saturday shows:
Hardy and the Hardknocks: Live show was a bit different than what I expected from listening to them online. Pretty good, but would like to see them in a small club somewhere, might be a better fit.
Kurt Vile: not a huge fan of his stuff but decided to give him a shot live and glad I did...liked him live better than his recordings....good afternoon show.
Griswolds: accidently caught the first part of their show...I hadn't realized that Calvin had to cancel and the PTM had slid til later. They were ok but I left after a couple of songs.
Zoogma: caught second half of their show...was pretty good but not as good as I had thought it would be. Still glad I caught some of their set.
Jack Novak: This was my only foray into the Malibu tent, and she was jamming! Had a good time in there, and she was spinning tight.
Portugal The Man: Great set as always from those guys. One of my favs of the weekend. Although I was worried about the singer...he had so many clothes on and what looked like a windbreaker!
Cage the Elephant: saw one song but was too far back because of the huge crowd. I was willing to try to snake up to get closer but my crew wasn't into doing that. I was bummed about missing this one....but the sound that far back at that stage sounds like a transistor radio. They need to address that. Plus, I guess Cage should've been on the bigger stage.
Foals: utterly kicked all kinds of ass. Best of the weekend for me...that's how you put on a rock show. So glad they were at night too....it was the bomb.
Sunday shows: Bass Drum of Death: it took us forever to get through security this day, so I missed almost all of their set, but what I saw was good.
Bro Safari: loved it. Loud funkiness with big drops.
Run the Jewels: maybe my second favorite set behind Foals. That was a party from second number one.
Fetty Wap: stood way in the back for this and didn't mind doing so. It was really the only set I saw all weekend where I would say I was disappointed.
Mayer Hawthorne: another act that converted me on the weekend. Was not really planning on going to his set but my buddy was wanting to go to an act that "has a drum set and a guitar" as he put it, so we went over. He puts on a good live show. Much better than i had anticipated and would gladly put him on my list to see at a future fest.
Lenny Kravitz: Really good show full of big hits. Sounded great. Only complaint is when he and the band did a monotonous 15-20 minute free form jam in the middle...they kind of lost the crowd and slowed the vibe there...but ended strong.
Courtney Barnett: I had never seen her live before and she was a good finale to my weekend.
I missed Florence and was bummed about it....but my right eye suddenly felt like someone put a lit cigarette out on it right at the end of Courtney. I flushed it with water but that didn't work...so I had to leave and get some eye drops. Helped a bit but it was swollen and red itchy for several days. I think I might have had an allergic reaction to someone vaping next to me at the Courtney show.
Overall: not the best time I've had at a music fest, mostly because of the lineup, but still had really good time. The setting helps a lot with that, as well as rolling with long time friends like I did. I enjoyed the music I did see, and caught some acts I hadn't seen before, but only had a couple of sets that I thought were stellar (Foals, RTJ, PTM, Chainsmokers) as opposed to several last year (Foos, Beck, MMJ, Skrillex, Major Lazer, DBT, Spoon, Cold War Kids, TVOTR) ...I hope the lineup is a better match for me next year, but as long as it is not abysmal, I am 90% sure I will be coming back next year....we already reserved our condo.
I think the AXSTV stage gravel will always be an area for improvement. Same with Surf stage sound near the gulf. I have a condo reserved as well. Odds of getting a lineup I can get amped up for are less than 50-50. There's always chillin with a cold drink, butt in the sand, and classic rock on my Bose.

Death Cab needs to be on more lineups and have more people excited for them. To steal a line from my esteemed colleague, Sarge there are so many worse "alt" bands I've seen who are total limpdick compared to the two shows I've seen this year. Their Roo show was chiller but still awesome and they're rocking out this set at Sloss.

Yeah, that was the first time I ventured over to the shore side at Surf stage in the two years I have been. Not good. Live and learn.

Went to my first Hangout this year. Had a lot of fun even though I wasn't a big fan of the lineup. Not sure i'll be returning in the next few years as I'll be trying to study abroad in London next summer and hopefully my first Roo for my Senior year of college.
Here's what I saw:
Thursday People of the Sun (Moon Taxi) - got front row for this show. So cool to see Rage songs live. Moon Taxi did a pretty damn good job Lil Dicky - A great combination of laughter and good rap. Wasn't really a big fan before but I've been listening to him a lot since Grouplove - my second time seeing them. Saw them in 2014 at the Tabernacle and they haven't disappointed either time. They're my friends favorite band so he had the time of his life Matt&Kim - not really a fan but I enjoyed the show
Friday Roots of a Rebellion - nice music for the beach Bully - 5th favorite set of the weekend. Didn't know anything about them before and almost went to Silversun Pickups. Best decision of the festival. I've since fallen in love with them and haven't stopped listening to Feels Like Big Grams - It was fine. It wasn't really as good as I thought it would be but I still had a good time Moon Taxi - Only caught the first half of their set. Was too far back to really get into it but they sounded tight The Struts - Saw them at Shaky Knees the week before and their after show at the Masquerade (got front row and had an amazing time). I love them a lot but we left half way cause my friends second favorite band is Walk the Moon Walk the Moon - a guilty pleasure of mine. Don't really go out of my way to listen them but I have a lot of fun seeing them live. We actually met the guitar player the next day after Magic Man's set. Alabama Shakes - Was pretty far back so the sound wasn't the best. Brittany's voice still killed though. The Weeknd - it was fine. Danced a lot and sang along to the hits. Props to him for continuing with the set
Saturday Magic Man - a casual fan. First time seeing them and had a lot of fun X Ambassadors - my third time seeing them. Wasn't really a fan before seeing them live but I don't mind them anymore The Griswolds - we got 5th row for PtM but they got moved. Didn't know much about them but I enjoyed their set. Cool to see members of Magic Man and WtM join in for the last song Atlas Genius - Have been a casual fan for a few years so it was great to finally see them live. Very good show Miike Snow - The band was great, the crowd was really crap though. Felt like most people there were out of their minds Cage the Elephant - second time seeing them. They're amazing for a festival. Love them to death Foals - Hot damn. What a set. Easily my favorite of the 4 sets that closed the night for me. Such a great rock show. 3rd favorite set of the weekend
Sunday The Wailers - We got there an hour before gates to get front row for RTJ. We got front row center and enjoyed this show. Caught the drummers stick at the end Run the Jewels - Thought this was gonna be my favorite set of the weekend and it so was. They're just the best live. So funny and so much hype. Mike looked so happy to be down in the dirty south. Loved the new song Grimes - Just mind blowing. First time seeing her and she was incredible. 4th favorite set of the weekend for sure. Raury - Wanted to see a set at the restaurant stage and had a really good time with him. Looking forward to seeing him at Music Midtown Courtney Barnett - my 2nd favorite artist at the festival. Got front row right in front of the bass player. Such an amazing time. Courtney is just the best Florence + the Machine - simply magical. Had a smile on my face the whole set. An amazing end to the fest
