Lots of youngens at the festival this year. Lines to everything are longer than before. I have noticed more parents bringing their infant to elementary school aged children along. They all seem to be in the VIP Grove too.
Saw Big Grams, some Moon Taxi and Alabama Shakes. Shakes really did it for me. So much emotion in her performance. I could have listened to another hour.
We went on to watch all of the Weeknd afterwards. Not really my thing, but at least we didn't get Draked.

The crowd this year is a lot bigger and younger than previous years. Lines look to be outrageously long... like 2011 long. The crowds look to be made up of mainly millenials. Some of them have brought their infant children. Some of them have forgotten to bring swimsuits with a proper back (butt floss everywhere!).
The two main stages and the AXS stage have great sound this year. We saw Pepper, Silversun Pickups, Big Grams, The Struts, and Alabama Shakes. We tried to go to The Revivalists, but between the sound bleed from the main stage and the chattering of obnoxious millenials who don't know how to act at a concert, we couldn't hear them. Super sad panda.
VIP is amazing, as usual. The drinks are strong and plentiful. The bathrooms are clean. And the food was good (fried chicken yesterday).
We're having a friend over for breakfast and then will head to Chick's house to give her a bloody. See y'all there?
The delay sucked but we still had a blast, we kicked off with big grams and actually went to Chainsmokers and it wasn't as bad I thought I would be. It was still bad but we at least had fun and met some cool peeps. You can def feel like the larger crowd, I couldn't believe how packed the pre/party was. Rail for Flo might be s challenge
I'm glad to hear sound was good for struts on AXS. We didn't make the trek back over there for that show bc we could barely hear Borns on that stage. We camped out at back of BMI stage for awhile with the kids to wait for Revivalists and I agree, there's way too much sound bleed from other stages. But they still put on a good show. Was sad to miss the Shakes bc our kiddos were tired but we've seen them twice. Still a great day. Should be a packed day today. We're gonna grab a table early at restaurant for Record Co.

Hahahaha this is dead on. Butts. Everywhere.
First day seemed extraordinarily drunker to me. I saw a lot of people passed out and/or really struggling. Combination younger crowd plus stuck all morning drinking in your condo did not do well fo a lot of people.
We checked out SSPU, Big Grams (sound at that stage sucked to me but that could have been where we were standing), Alison Wonderland, Struts, Walk the Moon and Weeknd. In my real life I would never see WTM or Weeknd but I decided to pretend I was born in the early 90s and just embraced it.I actually had a good time. Are they great amazing musicians? no. but I drank some beer, shut up and danced with them. When in Rome I guess.
Looking forward to today hopefully won't feel like I'm running from stage to stage and since everyone can come over the course of the day not all at once (and are most likely super hungover today) crowds will be a little more manageable.
The majority of this crowd is everything I find wrong with pop music. People talk and gossip an entire set until the new single comes on & then they try & mumble their way through the words until they get to the chorus. The sounds bleed & chatter of the crowd were awful for the first 4 songs of Revivalists. Then half the crowd left and they turned up the volume and the show was fantastic. Crowd was huge for Bama Shakes, but we got to move up halfway through because all the ADHD kids finally stopped talking about the chainsmokers & the weeknd and left. Shakes were good, but damn near put me to sleep. Their new album really shows off Brittany's vocals and has great feeling, but I would have preferred a better mix of that upbeat southern feel from the first album. Brett Dennan, Moon Taxi and Sspu were all fantastic. Moon Taxi did a Watchtower cover and they jammed it up quite nicely. For non VIP folks you still have to get in front of the sound stage for the quality of the music to be any good on the surf stage. The biggest crowds I saw were for the WeekNd and people standing around in the middle of walking paths away from any stage that I could see. Definitely a shift in crowd dynamics and for the worse, but they definitely sold more real tickets this year than ever before.

Yes to all of this. Gotta stay focused on the bands I like and have blinders on in the crowds. Hangout WILL still be one of the best weekends of the year.

During the entire Shakes set I had a group in front of me doing exactly what you are describing. One of them was so drunk she could barely stand up without holding onto the rail or leaning on a neighbor. This girl had no butt floss on and was far from a Millennial. I am 41 and she was easily old enough to be my mother.
I'm not mad about it, she held her cookies down and off of my flip flops.
My only minor gripe is seeing loads of GA wristbands in the Surf Stage VIP section. Truth is, I would be doing the same 20 years ago when I was their age.

This is absolutely the mother fuckin truth. It seemed 2011 level of crowded. I have a snap I took from the super vip entrance looking out into the entrance crowd and was blown away at the people trying to get in to the fest. I kept watching it because of how massive that line was. Saw SSPickups, MT, Big Grams (my next wife was amazing), Shakes, Walk the Moon, and the Weaknd. Asses everywhere, few good but most needed some pants. So many drunk ppl yesterday (me too for the Weaknd). It's beautiful and I'm surprisingly not hung over. Ready for day 2.
I guess we were close enough at Revivalists not to have issues...loved it...heard taxi from a distance, grams, isbell and shakes. ..had a great night...i think the crowd was worse just because of the late start. ....see ya'll at stick figure!
The lineup and crowd has gotten exponentially worse every year and as soon as this year's lineup dropped, I knew this was going to be a complete shitshow of doofus millennial assclowns. I still can't believe how many of you longtime fest veterans actually paid to be there. A local friend of mine that gets free media passes every year has been giving me updates on shitshow.
Yeah standing by myself in that Weeknd crowd was pretty weird, Those kids probably thought was a cop. I think you're right about the long delay making everything worse inside; I know my group lost a couple of people early on.

They distributed way too many tickets and did a terrible job with site setup. It's been a clusterfvck for lines of everything and getting in, out and around has been terrible.
I liked the Weekend. There have definitely been worse headliners.

FYI this year they gave media folks (who have standing room VIP access) GA bands plus another sparkly plastic band that says media so that may account for some of the GAs you're seeing.

Anybody know what's going to happen now with CH?
whats up with Calvin?
He got in a car wreck. I'm hoping they fly in a DJ instead of replacing him with an act on the bill.
I had a dream last night that I was at Hangout and Sting (the retired professional wrestler, not the singer) was there to announce The Cure as a surprise replacement headliner for a cancelled Calvin Harris. It was beautiful.

Those poor teenagers on the other end of that wreck. Horrifying.
Really curious how Hangout is going to play this. There's no way they fly in somebody on such short notice. They will probably get some supergroup medley from the existing lineup. Here's to Big Freedia, HEALTH, Leon Bridges, Grimes do a mashup with Moon Taxi on backing band.

DJs fly from festival set to Vegas to another fest in one night. I don't see why they couldn't fly in someone not playing tonight. If GV had any balls they would do it.

Haha, I love that Sting dream. Dreams are weird.
On a separate note, I had a friend say, "I think God has the same music taste as us," in reference to all the bad luck hangout is having. The Weeknd was told by his people to cancel his show and now this. Man. I can't imagine what's going on behind the scenes down there.
I'm glad you guys are having a big time. I wonder if they'll pull someone from NOLA to replace Calvin? Major Lazer was in ATL last night. Def Leopard is in Orlando tomorrow. I bet all those college gals dance to that at the bar, yeah?
Really need a Ride from the beach. I've been walking to and from the festival and it's finally take its toll on my feet. I'm literally stuck on the beach and can't walk more than 20 feet. I have a little gas money for anyone willing to help

Why was The Weekend told to cancel?
Someone said his production set was trashed by the wind/rain.
