Smack in the Warehouse District maybe a half mile downriver from Buku/Mardi Gras World. It's one of my favorite spots in the city to see a show But I think the last one I caught there was Primus) back in like 2012 or something. It opens up and sort of is a warehouse on 3 sides. I'm not really sure why they don't use it anymore.

I love RL but always end up missing him. I saw the Clockwork set at Buku and b2b with Baauer, but inevitably there is some other shit calling me. I'd love to go but caffeine only goes so far... Haha

Sugar mill does lots of events, including the bull run every year. I'm not sure why it's not used more for shows. It's a great venue.

My only experience there was that Cinco De Mayo Primus show during JF a few years back and I thought that venue was godawful.
-Uniformed LEOs crawling all over the place. -Overzealous security guards wading through the crowds bothering people -Stupid/confrontational workers outright refused to give me my ticket stub when I scanned in, while letting other people have them. -No water fountains inside/may have turned the water fountain off for the show -Had security actually stopping women from bringing empty water bottles into the bathroom to stop them from filling up in the sink. (that happened to my ex)
Cool room and the music was good, and I made lifelong friends at that show, but damn, getting abused like that leaves an impression on me as someone who spends almost all of their disposable income on shows.
Also a funny thing about NOLA, is that is basically the only fucking city where I get carded regularly. When I was 15/16 I could buy booze anywhere there. Y'alls ABC must have really cracked down hard over the past several years.

+1
The two shows I've seen there sounded terrible and getting in & around sucked. Looks cool, but that's about it IMO. I'd rather Champions Square at this point.

Yeah, I think after a few bars got shutdown for serving underage (and there were a few that blatantly didn't give a fuck, some still open), they're extra cautious. Apparently whoever enforces that shit sends out secret shoppers all the time, especially Uptown bars where the Tulane kids will be going.
I didn't notice any issues at the Primus show. I guess Sugarmill must have a reputation from the past to have that level of security, but I thought it was a great show. I guess I must have been oblivious to the security issues. Then again, it was May 5th. I thought the bars lining the walls were great, and the bartenders were all really nice to me. Certainly the sound at that show was good, and yeah, it was Primus so it's supposed to sound good. But that's the only time I can recall going there. /Fish on.
I have never had issues with security or sound. I remember Alabama Shakes was completely and miserably packed, but that is the only issue I remember. And as a bull in the bull run, I have never had issues during that either. I guess I am bias due to the run, that I like the venue as much as I do.

What was that one Tulane place, T.J Quills? I saw that shit on Bar Rescue lol That place gave few fucks knowing they were being filmed and were already in trouble, I can only imagine that place in the 80's and 90's.

Friar Tucks was the WORST back in the day, and up until the early 2000s. I remember when they first started cracking down, shit was real. Bartenders got fined and fired and they still let in underage kids. I am sure it is exactly the same now.
Was Friar Tucks associated with the Krewe of Tucks?
Either way, I did a lot of NOLA parades for the first time this year, and they were my favorite. Definitely the coolest throws. Zulu was the most impressive parade (Did MOMS Ball and didn't see Enydmion) but that was more of a clusterfuck where we were at (St. Charles & Jackson) compared to St. Charles & 7th where my gf was living during Carnival this year, where you could just walk right up to the floats.
I plan on coming over for Nyx next year as I hear that is a great one. I'm never gonna get to see Thoth/Bacchus as that is on Joe Cain Day in Mobile which I can't miss.
Where do y'all catch parades at? My girl lives by Igor's now so I'll prob walk up several blocks towards uptown on St. Charles to get a less crowded spot. Will also prob walk down Jackson towards Dryades for Zulu. Isn't that where a lot of the Indians are at?

Something like that. I am not sure about all of the specifics and not sure if that article is even that accurate.
A few of my girls roll in Nyx, and I go that ball which is super fun. I don't go to a bunch of parades. I catch Endymion every year at my girl's house in mid-city. I roll in Muses with the Big Easy Rollergirls, and that is usually about it. Last year I did venture out on Mardi Gras and caught parades on Canal, before heading to the Quarter to catch St. Ann at one of my friend's friend's house. I am not a big fan of the fans, crime and craziness that is carnival season.
I live close to the Magazine/Napoleon route so I just watch everything in the first couple of blocks of Magazine off Napoleon or the first block or two of Napoleon. It was bad ass before the SELA projects kicked in, as you had the entire neutral ground to yourself to grill out, throw the football, only be a row or two back (mostly ladders on the front row), etc. My wife rides in Nyx; I'll let y'all know her float assignment once she finds out so she can hook it up.
" St. Ann " Do these people start in the Marigny around sunrise Fat Tuesday? I think I heard about them this year. Pretty trippy crew I hear. I was told to not miss them.
Plans for 2016 if possible:
Krewe De Vieux Nyx Muses/whoever else is that night Iris/Tucks > MOMs Joe Cain Orpheus/Proteus Zulu/Rex > Marigny
I did almost every parade in Mobile this year except for days I was in NOLA and I missed Crewe of Columbus (Muse night) because of a migraine. (Made it to NOLA in time that night for the Bo Dollis Sr. tribue show though)
Mardi Gras is def my fav holiday of the year and always has been.

I am not sure what time they start but we usually don't get down there until around 1pm. They are super fun and definitely a do not miss. You have to go to Chewbaccus too, that is my favorite. I forgot that I always do Krewe de Vieux and Chewbaccus also.

Mine is thanksgiving because i just eat a lot of food and i don't have to work the next day. I'm thinking these holiday preferences speak to our individual personalities.
on topic I'm still toying with potential voodoo plans. I'm thinking of just heading over on Sunday to catch Prydz and deadmau5, then driving back to Mobile the same night. But then I'm thinking I'd be crazy not to drive over Saturday for the LN Mastodon show, and if I'm going Saturday then I might as well go to the festival that day to see Ozzy and either Duke Dumont or PiL. But then I have to get a hotel room, but I could just get something cheap in metry since i'm sure all the FQ/CBD hoteys are booked solid at this point.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, I am sure part of that is the fact that my birthday is two days before. Plus, I get Voodoo and sometimes that falls on my birthday (like next year).
I don't really do many parades anymore. I hit Krewe du Vieux which is miles away the best parade in the city if you like your x-rated and double entendre themes spiced up with brass bands. Endymion passes a couple blocks from my house so we usually hang around the neighborhood for that. I might catch one other one if somebody is throwing a party or if there is a show at Tips the Tues or Weds before Mardi Gras worth checking out. Last year we ditched Tips to catch Lotus and Kung Fu at HoB. Other than that, Krewe of Dreux is just a skeleton of its former self and not worth participating in anymore though I love all of those people. That leaves Mardi Gras day. Ideally we get in early enough to see Society of St. Ann, Krewe of Cosmic Debris and other walking clubs down in the Marigny. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. But we usually catch up with them at some point(s) later in the day after they splinter off. To me, that side of town is the real Mardi Gras and not the clusterfuck that are the float and truck parades or the absolute lameness that is Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras day. Bourbon sucks balls.

goddamn voodoo always drags me back in.
Right there with you. I really really should go to Hulaween this year on lineup alone. But no dice. I just can't miss Voodoo.

Yea no way I'd go on Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras again. I walked down it on Lundi Gras on the way to OEJ for the Quintron show in 2008 just to experience the shitshow and it was definitely sketch. It's like "Sweet, I'm walking ballsdeep in tourists, being preyed upon by the worst of the city."
I love float parades and I just can't miss Zulu/Rex next year. Truck parade was super weak and that's when we started walking from St. Charles to Marigny, which was a pretty amazing walk. I'm bringing my Dad with me to stay at my gf's place next year. He's never been to NOLA for Fat Tuesday because he rode in the KOR in Mobtown that day since the 70's and just never made it over before that. He's got more of a nola pass than me from spending time and doing business over there since the 60s, so this is gonna be amazing for him.

Sucks, but if shit works out, door is open which it is anyway You only need gas, food and booze at the fest. ill see you at Waka if not before. ------------- Looks like Voodoo has about half of the food vendor menus up on the app. I will throw out a preview after it's complete. Good to see Dragos back, and I'm glad to see Puffs of Doom (c) coming down for the first time. I ate them a couple of times this year at festivals (Hangout & Waka or Roo????). They are from Chicago and are cool as fuck along with having some interesting food. I'm always glad to support people like that.
My aftershows all 3 nights are liable to be me staggering home and hoping I make it all the way.
A bunch of sites have that weekend blank on their schedules, so there's really no telling yet on a lot of venues. Assume a bigger DJ will pop into Dragon's Den and maybe Publiq House, but it's not 100% guaranteed. I'd probably hit Mastodon and Corrosion of Conformity if I was heading out Halloween night. Also if you can get tickets in advance, Gravity A does one of their 3 or 4 times a year Bacchanals where they play until like 7 or 8 am - probably out of Blue Nile. RL Grime at Hell's Gala would probably be sweet too. There isn't much else up yet that I can find.
