Are the crowds really that bad? I'm normally pretty good at maneuvering through to good spots but each festival is different. I'm guessing it won't be as easy getting close from stage to stage for consecutive shows since there really isn't any gap in between sets?
I have never found the crowds to be that bad. Honda and Miller Lite stage are dueling stages, and are easy to get from one side to the other. I have done front row at those stages for multiple shows that I have wanted to see. If the crowd gets a little thick during the evening you can setup at one stage and still see the whole set at the opposing stage.
It looks like retail me not stage is now Barton Springs, and once again it isn't that far from the Samsung Galaxy stage and easy to get to. Here is a link to the 2014 map.
EDIT: last year I did get trapped during Iggy whoever and we were unable to get out from that side of the park due to the crowds and the bottleneck that that show created. I am 90% sure she was on the Retail Me Not stage. We got trapped and missed whoever it was that we were trying to go see.

Again I only went that one year, but I found it to be super packed. You can get around, but think Bonnaroo size crowds in the 75000 range. To me, the biggest hassle was coming and going. I don't know how well you you know Austin, but you can exit Zilker near the river/downtown on the east side. It's a walk, but we did it exiting all 3 days. Getting there is tough since parking can be a bitch. It's generally packed on a weekend day outside of ACL, and parking in the neighborhoods in the surrounding hills can be real problematic. If you are close to the venue or have bike access, it's easier. We had to walk/cab every day, and it wasn't easy. Maybe now with Uber it's not that big of a deal, but we stayed with a buddy in South Austin who recently moved to Deep South Austin several miles further south and walking prohibitive. We did get a break on Friday, as we rode with another friend who gets handicap access. We parked close, then got a 4 wheeler ride to the front gate. That was no sweat.

Uber is gonna cost you mega bucks and prolly not worth it. Consider using Austin Bike rentals, or even car2go if you have it. I believe they have car2go parking close by. The bus systen can be usefull too. Some of the buses will drop you off at lamar/barton springs road and then its a 15 walk. I wouldnt park in the neighborhoods as they will have cops and some have "residential permits only" and will tow if you don't have it. If you do want to use Uber, use Lyft instead. Lyft doesnt surcharge nearly as much. If Ive got nothing to do that day, gimme $20 buck and ill drop yall off close by. Lol.

To comment on earlier posts...
Never had a problem smoking anywhere in there, actually had no idea the park was smoke free.
Fairly easy to sneak booze in, but my group had a fairly elaborate system behind putting it in our pants, under a boob or in other disguised containers.
Was never overly crowded, obviously if yore going from one side to the other allow time and dont fight to be front row and youre fine.
Last year i took a free shuttle from near the capital into the park, and just figured that this was slmething they did every year, am i wrong?

Yes, there are free shuttles to and from the fest that pickup and drop off downtown.

We always park in that neighbor hood right behind where you aren't allowed to park. We would walk down the hill and 90% of the time, we would get picked up by this beige explorer type vehicle that offers rides. We would throw her a $10 or a $20, and it would be a lifesaver. I think we caught a ride with her almost every day in 2013 (except the crazy downpour) and then in 2014 we caught her at least twice. When we didn't catch her, we just trekked that hill to the park. It isn't a horrible walk on the way there since its mostly downhill. Its the walk back after the fest, up the hill that is a bitch.

Never seen alt-j live but their stream from coachella was very chill so I can see what your saying. I was leaning toward GRiZ but considering checking out omam
GRiZ will rule that shit. No 2 ways about it. I will see him the night before in N.O. and would still see him Weekend 2. Say It Loud is easily Top 3 album of 2015, and For the Love with Talib bringing back some Detroit/Motown Truth, Take It High and Funk Party all completely rule on that album. And A Fine Way to Die. Plus Rebel Era and older stuff along with usually good covers, no way I miss him at a festival. GRiZ fam tend to be appreciative of the music and less d-baggy than a lot of other electronica fanbases.
I get email updates from c3concerts and haven't received anything as of yet. If I do, I will pass that information along. I tried the basics and still couldn't get in.

Late Shows have been announced. Anyone familiar with mau5trap? Deadmau5 is doing this at Emo's on Saturday night during weekend 2.
A few I'm interested in are Billy Idol and Ryn Weaver at Stubbs, TV on the Radio at Emo's, Leon Bridges at Parish, A$AP Rocky/Danny Brown/Vince Staples at Austin Music Hall, Danzig/Superjoint/Veil of Maya/Prong/Witch Mountain at Stubb's, and Chance The Rapper.
