I thought they made it easy for me to skip this SJ and see Bassnectar, but with the addition of DMC and Chance it's going to be tougher to miss. Oh well, I always miss out on something at Roo.
for me it will be crowd size driven. Not missing a minute of Slayer so after that I'll walk over to Superjam to see whats happening. I'm assuming under the tent will be packed at that point, so if the sound is decent outside the tent and the new screens are a viable way to watch the show I'll do the superjam. Lot of ifs there. Otherwise I'll check out Bassnectar.
Can't believe so many people in here are poo-pooing on this SJ. I had zero hope for last years (I don't care for Skrillex solo) but it turned out great! This year has artists involved that are more universally loved than Skrillex, because he isn't for everyone, and yet it seems to be getting less love
Does nobody else think PrettyNectar sounds way better?
It may sound better but Basslights describes each act. Bassnectar is all about the BASS and PL is all about his crazy LIGHTing rig. It's not about nectar and pretty girls

Oh I am all about it man. First year missed the Superjam. Last year caught about 20 mins of it on my way to Glitch Mob. This year I'm making the walk from Mumford and getting stoked for PL and some throwback tunes

I think the Skrillex superjam got more pre-roo love simply because it was (a) announced earlier and (b) the first superjam curated by an electronic artist. The (b) part by itself created tons of buzz on inforoo, some positive, some negative, but either way people were very interested in how it would all pan out.
I don't think its less love necessarily, just less excitement/discussion because its not a "first" like last years was.
I think the PL superjam is going to be an awesome time.

I just hope this year is different in that it's a Throwback superjam, and not a Pretty Lights superjam. I spent about 45mins at the Supejam last year, and it just sounded like another Skrillex set which was not really enjoyable to me.

It started out with skrilly poo and big g doing some of their electronic style stuff, but it really branched out. Tons of guests kept coming and doing some of their own songs. Lauryn hill, Damian Marley, mystikal, dude from cage the elephant sang the doors with Robbie Krieger, Janelle Monae came out and stole my heart, warpaint played David bowie. It was like 3 hours long.

I watched the documentary so I saw there was some cool stuff later on, but I couldn't take the beginning of it, so I just bounced around between Frank Ocean and Nick Cave and had a good time. It still seemed like Skrillex had control of most of it, and I hope that's not the case with Pretty Lights

maybe he had control of the direction/guests, but sometimes it seemed like he was just sorta up there on stage while the others were doin' their thang.

Skrillex wasn't the real superjam. Derek trucks and Susan tedeschi led the old fashioned one. Though certainly not as unique as the skrillex and friends set

Maybe we come from different backgrounds but I recognize no one in that list besides DMC, Chance, and Pretty Lights. I think there was a lot more star power last year with Skrillex, Lauryn Hill, Damian Marley, Mystikal, Robbie Krieger, Matt Shultz and Janelle Monae.

Well you could always see Bassnectar literally anywhere else...
True... but I discovered Bassnectar on the farm in 2010 and it was one of the more magical experiences for me. Partly because who I was with and the the state of mind I was in and things of that nature. And, I'm also just a much bigger fan of Bassnectar than anyone in the Superjam lineup.

You should check out Robert Trujillo's band Metallica, they're pretty good.

Metal definitely isn't my thing so no draw there, that said didn't he join Metallica in like 2004 or something? Not really a founding member or anything.

He's a fantastic bassist, he just had the unfortunate timing of joining a band on their decline.

Well, Lauryn, Mystikal, and Shultz were surprise guests and not advertised. So we're only -1 at this point

He's awesome and can play funk with the best of them.
Krasno is also returning for his 2nd consecutive superjam

I beg to differ kind sir. Death Magnetic was their best record since S/T and they still destroy arenas around the world.

Excellent point my good abefroman....which further makes my decision a tough one. I'd hate to miss out on a SJ with sunriseguests Robert Plant, Guster, Ben Folds or the MMJ guy.

4/22: The Mountain Goats
5/25: Laura Jane Grace "Killing Me Loudly"
