Super fun. Not as good as Jim James or d'angelo superjam IMO. Felt more like karaoke party with great house band than a real collaborative effort to create something special but I heard a lot of nostalgic songs that rocked.
I liked the bluegrass one way more. Just a few songs from that destroyed the throwback but maybe I'm just too old now.
Hope next year goes back to older ways. Give Jeff tweedy or warren Haynes or john mccauley or someone else a 3 hour rock slot. I still love bacons idea of a The Band/last waltz theme.

Or les claypool.
He technically had 2008. And didn't blow people away (though I wanted to see it if not for MMJ).
I'm not super excited for it but I could see them giving it to Wayne Coyne one year. Possibly in the hopes that Miley will show up.
I like the celebrity karaoke feel this had honestly. They did a great job of playing the songs and it was one of the most fun times I had dancing all weekend.
This superjam certainly had its moments and I danced like crazy. But I left feeling as though it had so much potential to be way better. As far as EDM superstar curated superjams go, Skrillex really set a high bar last year that this one didn't even get near touching. It was also heavy on the rap/r&b side which I wasn't expecting. As well, to me, it had the feel that this was all pretty rushed. Oh well, can't win em all but this one was at least fun.
Here is who I can remember that was a part of it right now: Zach Galifianakis , Jon Hamm, Chali2na , Pretty Lights, Jamie Lidell, DMC, Chance the Rapper, Cherub, SZA, Karl Denson, Brownout, Rob Trujillo, Jack Antonoff, Reggie Watts, Eric Krasno, Oteil Burbridge, John Medeski, Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, and Rhiannon Giddens.
Did anyone else think the Superjam was, dare I say, not so super? Horrible jobs by some of the guest vocalists. Bleachers dude gave a poor attempt at dancing in the dark while the fella from cherub struggled with crazy train and practically murdered enter sandman. Pretty Lights served little purpose as the curator and I felt he was extremely expendable. Some cool guests and nice moments but just a lackluster show. You had one of the best drummers on the planet on stage and he was so under utilized.
I was underwhelmed. I stayed for the whole thing hoping it would gel but it didn't work for me. I thought Antonoff was okay but the Cherub guy did not have the voice for those songs. The Pretty Lights solo section felt like it was completely separate from the rest of the Superjam. DMC was excellent. Loved Chali2na. Thought Chance's "Poison" and "This Is How We Do It" was fun. Luckily there was nothing else I wanted to see so I have no regrets but IMO it didn't stack up to the Jim James or Skrillex ones.
Rhiannon Giddens in particular flubbed some parts of her songs.
I heard her say at the end of her set that she was having vocal problems and was hoping that she could make it through the superjam. Her performance may have been out of her control.
I enjoyed the Superjam. My only complaint was they didn't turn on the screens outside. Since they were primarily using graphics from the onstage screen to introduce performers and were cutting in cheesy 80s vidoes throughout, people outside the tent (the ones who could hear over Bassnectar sound bleed) missed on a really fun part of the show. I started outside and worked my way in and it was a completely different Superjam depending where you were.
And between the popularity of it at Superjam and people singing it on Sunday, can Roo just go ahead and book Biz Markie already?
saw biz markie in fevbruary and it was total shiz. he plays like, 15-20 seconds of just a friend and then goes to something else, then another 15-20 seconds of just a friend then something else. it was like a really, really bad club dj.

I was quacked up, which probably made me love it even more, but I really loved this superjam. It wasn't 2013, but it was damn close. The beginning with Zach/Jon and the first two hip hop covers was one of the all time best moments for me at any bonnaroo. What a party.

Wayne Coyne makes sense. Like you I wouldn't be too excited about that.
But its hard to think of another non-EDM or hip-hop artist that would be a good superjam curator. Meaning someone who is popular enough to make it a big deal.

I felt that musically it could have been a lot tighter. I expected better based on who was out there. The show was still tons of fun and I enjoyed the entire time I was there. Biggest disappointment is with all the talk of the "Just a Friend" sing a longs I barely heard any of the crowd singing.
I was pretty underwhelmed by the superjam. I feel like it was incorrectly billed as a "dance party", as about half the tracks weren't all that dancy. There were some standout moments ("Juicy", "Walk This Way", "This Is How We Do It"), but a lot of songs just had me moving back and forth, not really compelling me to dance. I don't remember if it was Chali2na or DMC who kept doing this, but if you're going to announce that you're about to "make history", make sure you're actually doing something hype-worthy, not just bringing out Jamie Lidell. He overhyped and underdelivered. I'm still glad I went compared to the other stuff going on at that time slot, but it came nowhere near the SJs of the past two years.

Dave Grohl
hell just have dave grohl and pat smear play the germs entire discography. call that a superjam i'd show up, fuck it. i believe in nothing.
i'm serious about the above but in other seriousness grohl would be a kick ass curator.
Yea, that's the big thing. It felt like over-promotion to the point of "No seriously guys....this is awesome...you should love this. It's historical". The other superjams didn't need to keep announcing how epic it was as it was going....we all just felt it as it went along.
this was my first superjam. i'm glad, too. i had the best time. my feet were hurting so bad so i took my shoes off and of course, stepped in gum. the rest of the set was fun though. saw a guy turn around, make a gesture a couple of times with his hand, and then turn around like it didn't happen. i'm still laughing about it. everyone around me was having a blast. SUCH A GREAT SET.

What a review. Anything else happen to you during this set we should know about?

That's too bad. Maybe they could get him for a one-off thing like William Hung a few years ago. Stand on top of the arch singing "Just a Friend" as people leave on Sunday. Maybe a few "Biz Teaches Beatbox" sessions in the Kid's Jam and some kind of DJ set in the Christmas barn. I can't imagine he costs much.
Was anyone else confused by Jamie Lidell? I didn't catch who he was early in the set but he gave off the vibe of someone from Superfly who had won a karaoke contest. His stage presence was kind of goofy. Probably the sunglasses and the self-conscious smile. His voice was okay but nothing special. Like I said, reminded me of someone who was good at karaoke or maybe the lead in a romantic comedy who wins over the girl while embarrassing himself by serenading her in public. Figured out who he was when I caught his name splashed on the screen later on, btw.

Should have watched him during atomic bomb. Was definitely none of what you described

Atomic fucking bomb... talked a bunch of my friends into missing MMJ for atomic bomb and, when we walked to the end of MMJ, I received thank you's from all of them for getting them to check it out.

I had a hard time connecting with Saturday LN performances. I started out at D'angelo figuring I'd catch beginning before SuperJam started. He didn't show so I went over to SJ which was by then way crowded. I could barely see or hear anything to get much into it so after about 15 minutes I left back to D'angelo for about a half hour. That was a decent but there was this crazy obsessed fangirl dancing next to/up on me when I was only standing back near the edge of the tent so it was awkward. Also D'angelo hadn't come out to play with the band yet so that was a little confusing but I was still there for the first couple songs after he did before I went back to SJ. This time I wandered around and foudn a good place to watch from but the performances weren't grabbing me all that much. I wanted to see DMC but reasoned that since they started the show off with rap songs and now were on to rock I probably ahd missed him. At about 3:30 I decided to call it a night but now looking at the set list it looks like I was two songs away from what I was wanting to see and also it probably had a good hour left before the end of the gig.
Sucks the screen wasn't on and sound bleed from Kalliope and Bassnectar was so bad. My group could neither see nor hear anything. Sounds like it was a pretty good show!
My neighbor told me somebody climbed on the screen before the show and screwed it all up, and that's why it wasn't working.

Yeah u kind of have to go over to the right side(if facing the stage) and the which stage is also garbage unless you're on the opposite side of the comedy tent. However I was close-ish to the stage on the left side(facing the stage) during robert plant and I could still hear bullcrap bass hits from another tent. Don't they know who he is?!?! Fuckin electro garbage drowning out bobby plant? What is this world coming to?
The screen seemed to be working fine before the show because they were putting up the festival messages on it. It got switched off right when they were coming on stage. I saw there was a guy working very diligently to keep people out of there though so maybe something like that went down during the set to cause that.
