Yeah, it was SUPER last minute. I've wondered why that was and I think it must've just been due to them being really unsure about whether or not they were gonna be able to pull everyone together to make the Superjam happen. Did you go to that Superjam? And, if of, did you stay the ENTIRE time?
I didn't get to catch any of it. I was at ZZ Top getting a spot up front for Animal Collective.
Ah, well, I got on the rail for it and it was absolutely amazing, I HIGHLY doubt that I'll ever see a hip hop show better than that one. But AnCo was awesome too, I went over there once the Superjam was over. But that Superjam will forever be engrained in my memory, seeing all those Wu guys on such a small stage WITH Redman WITH Lettuce as the backing band... Oh man, I loved that show as much as any I have ever seen.
I just remember it was really late and I was like, GREAT NOW I HAVE THIS SHIZ TO WORRY ABOUT. Would be cool to see something like that happen again though.

I think I left 1/2 to 3/4 way through the set. It was really cool, but Wu Tang aren't my favorite collective of rappers. I had fun and was glad I caught what I did, but without lookin' at a schedule I couldn't tell you why I left.

Considering they announced the Skrillex superjam during BLAM last year, do you think they are trying to keep it a surprise this year or are they just completely winging it?

Well, at first it was "Superjam ?" then they said "Skrillex & friends" and then they eventually announced the main parts of it "with special guests" like they usually have it. They used to not announce the members of the Superjam at all. It was a complete surprise to everyone at the show. But they haven't done that for a while now. So, they are probably still figuring out the last bits of the Superjam or perhaps they've had an idea or two not workout so it has delayed them. All this said, I'm sure they're just holding off on the announcement until they have at least most of the ends tied up

They actually listed the Skrillex superjam and Superjam ? separately on the first lineup reveal.

Yeah, they listed them separately, right? Skrillex doing his show and then there was his Superjam which was originally announced as "Superjam ?" Correct?

Ok, thank that's what I was wondering. I couldn't remember which superjam got initially announced as "Superjam ?" I think we will know at least part of the "Superjam !" participants in the next 2-3 weeks
Does anyone else think the Superjam is more likely to be hip-hop/EDM related since it's in the Other Tent like the Skrillex Superjam was originally last year? This is a major reach obviously, but I know a lot of people say the Other Tent has sorta become the rap/dance tent over the years. I'm still hoping for a Grateful Dead related Superjam.

The Other Tent is also the location for all things psychedelic. Anything psych related and I'll be a VERY happy man. I pray for a kind of "history of psych rock" superjam
They could always change the vibe of the tent that day but if they kept with the theme of the day it looks like a danceable superjam, something with beats vs something guitar heavy.

Keep what a surprise this year?
As to who will be curating the superjam. I was thinking we had it announced earlier last year but someone pointed out that they left the Derek Trucks SJ unanounced until later on.
Hopefuly that will be todays news. Gary Clark Jr. leading would be great

In 2011 for the Dr John/Auerbach superjam, Dr. John played the same tent the day before. And in 2013 Jim James played This Tent on Friday before a superjam in This Tent on Saturday night. The other years, the main curator (?uestlove, Skrillex, Derek Trucks) has been playing on one of the two main stages, rather than a tent.
This theory only extends to the primary curators of the superjam rather than a backing member, but I think based on what we've seen before in their scheduling habits, acts that are playing in This Tent or That Tent rather than The Other Tent over the course of the weekend would be unlikely suitors for this year's Superjam. This would mean EWF, Tears For Fears, STS9, Medeski Martin & Wood, those featured in Atomic Bomb... Could be presumed as less likely.

Can we all agree that the Dr John / Auerbach set was weak sauce?

It was a good set but was really like a Dr. John set with a few guests/covers. Didn't feel like a real Superjam.

Yeah it definitely wasn't even close to the energy level of other superjams.

I had someone PM this to me. No source or anything, just all caps:
SUPER JAM ! 2015 IS GOING TO BE THE NEW BASEMENT TAPES:
JIM JAMES (MMJ), RHIANNON GIDDENS, MARCUS MUMFORD (MUMFORD & SONS), AND TAYLOR GOLDSMITH (DAWES)
WILL ALL BE THERE AND PERFORMING ON THAT DATE. Add a little Gary Clark Jr, The War On Drugs, D'Angelo appearance and
VUALA! MAGIC
Going to wait and see about that one. I don't know if they'd bring in those names for that Superjam but maybe? I didn't think we'd see Billy Idol or R. Kelly at the Jim James Superjam.
Either way....take this as strictly rumor. The user who PMed me isn't any proven insider or anything.
