I haven't caught up yet, but I had to pause to point out that I saw Jack play the Schottenstien ARENA in January..In Columbus...Ohio, not New York or Detroit. and it was fantastic.
If I recall, isn't it the Schottenstein CENTER?
The Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center is a multi-purpose arena, located on the campus of The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio, United States. It was the main sports, music, and entertainment arena in the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area until Nationwide Arena opened in 2000. The arena opened in 1998 and is currently the largest by seating capacity in the Big Ten Conference, with 19,049 seats, which is reduced to 18,809 for Ohio State men's basketball games.

For those of you wondering where this horrible discussion started...
I'll be honest, DM and Billy Joel are the ones I feel are strong enough to be there. I'm a huge fan of Mumford, but don't believe they should be a headliner. Kendrick??? I'm not really sure how this happened.
I think that Kendrick is right where he should be. - He's the flagship artist for perhaps the most in demand hip hop label right now, Top Dawg Entertainment. - He has two, not one, critically acclaimed studio albums out. Section.80 is massively underrated by the average fan, but good kid MAAD city really stands out as one of three or four classic hip hop albums from the last decade. - He has a third album out this month which is already receiving a lot of praise from those who have heard it. It wouldn't surprise me if he gave AC planners a sneak peek. - 9 Grammy Nominations and 2 wins in the two years that he has been Grammy relevant. (GKMC came out in 2012, but was nominated for AotY in 2014)
From a more subjective standpoint, Kendrick is probably in the top three of touring hip hop artists right now. Of those he's the most artistic. He really considers himself to be a poet. So having him represent the hip hop is a good middle ground between pleasing the average festival goer and maintaining a level of artistic integrity among the headliners. Plus he's a Bonnaroo vet.

What makes him the most artistic, if I may ask?
I did say that was subjective and it doesn't mean to belittle other artists. IMO, he is one of the few popular touring rappers who tries hard to include a social message into his music and take risks on production (Kanye is good at this). GKMC was a move away from that in some aspects, but it still included some experimental songs that would never be singles. "Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst" comes to mind, but "Money Trees" may be a better example since it gained serious popularity despite it's six and half minute length. Based on "The Blacker The Berry" I think his new album will have a strong social message.
Yes I did know Kendrick played before. Twice in fact. I was there both times. That's why I called him a vet. He didn't really become a household name until mid to late 2013.

No no, totally understandable - I'm aware it was subjective. Just curious as to what thought process led you to that conclusion. Thanks for the insight!

I ended up getting tickets to see prince next Sunday in Louisville. Disregard what I said about Pitbull playing yesterday. I was emotional.
You think they'll add a 4th show?
They added a 4th show. I had 2 tickets in my cart, and it said I had an error with my card. Time ran out and tickets sold out. Have a good day everyone.

I would almost bet that Toro y Moi can be ruled out as an addition based on tour dates. He's touring extensively in the area before Bonnaroo - he'll be in Nashville May 10th. I'd be surprised to see him come back to the area one month later.

Kendrick was the most packed day set at What I attended that year except maybe Macklemore. The back of the field probably seemed loose because everybody was pushed up to the front.
just to screw with people, Tyler will be in MD on the 10th, and has the 11th off
That would be a good way to screw with people, except everyone with common sense should know that he would not be placed in a Thursday slot. If you post in on Reddit, you might be able to screw with people.

I should really cut back on my morning booze intake....but yeah, what he said!
Cue the speculation... Modest Mouse tour dates have a big ol gap the weekend of Roo, right before they play firefly
oddly enough, they call the new WayHome festival in toronto the "HomeAway" festival
MM are playing a show in TN being put on by AC shortly before Roo. Not looking likely.
I would almost agree, but that gap is kind of convincing, but yet long enough that it could just be a break from touring. And now that I think about it, maybe the fact that a band is that close really doesn't matter. AC booked Odesza for a show in Knoxville before Roo and they are on the lineup.
Edit: Honestly, I don't think that rule matters at all for smaller acts. Just look at all the events AC has booked with artists before Roo in Tennesee: concertwire.com/events/
I'm just not sure if MM would count as a small enough act or not.

Good find.
Alabama Shakes & Hozier have multiple TN shows before Bonnaroo. I bet they both would be billed higher than Modest Mouse.

You're thinking about this backwards. Since AC is the one putting on the show, they're much more likely to book them for both (assuming the first one sells enough). If a third party was promoting a show close to Bonnaroo, that'd make it much more difficult.
