DANG! Are you going to that first show in Philly? Gotta say I'm pretty jelly. I've got to wait till he gets around to Austin in May. Fortunately, that gives me ample to absorb the new album and perhaps avoid crying like a baby during the live show.
A) Yessss, very first show of the tour. And I'm gonna rub it in Jaz 's face while I'm basking in the Sufjan splendor and he has to wait 24 more hours for it (jk, I'm actually a bit jealous he snagged Friday and I'm stuck with Thursday) B) I've already resigned myself to the fact that I will almost certainly cry. Multiple times. Luckily I'm pretty good at the ~silent cry~
Hahahaha that's awesome. You got him beat even though you are on a weeknight. No doubt I'll be working on my ~silent cry~ while y'all see him, but in due time I will finally experience the light of Sufjan.

So not sure how many people will agree with me on this, but I kinda hope they add another punk band... Against me is good and all, their live show is pretty solid, but last year they had the Bouncing Souls... I just see it as a bit of a step down. Though I would see Against Me as having a broader appeal.

Have you listened to Carrie & Lowell in full yet?
Yes and no. I've heard every track, but split between two sittings and I listened to "Death with Dignity" like five times. I plan to give it a solid listen this weekend when I can invite my friend Mary Jane to the party. It's a truly beautiful album. I expect it to be a personal contender for AotY along with I Love You, Honeybear. What did you think?

I think that if you think ILYH presents a challenge to C&L for the AotY spot, you haven't really listened to C&L yet.

Oh, most definitely. That Bouncing Souls show was just so much fun. King Khan was the perfect opening act, too. I'd like to see at least one more big punk band added - they can't be that expensive or difficult to book.

Or you're a pansy who hasn't listened to Liturgy yet. Am I right, monster?

I think I've listened to Death with Dignity the most so far - it is fucking perfect. "The Only Thing" also breaks my heart into like 2347832 million pieces.
The album is so so personal but I knew it would be, going into it, so I felt prepared - yet not entirely prepared for the depth and beauty of the album start to finish. Not a single track I don't love. Definitely give it the full run through soon!

I'm just wondering how yall are awake at 6 Am for these shows?
drugs?
Hahahaha yeaaaaah, most of the alcohol-only crowd is passed out by that point, let's be honest. I only stayed up till the sunrise one night last year, though, Saturday into Sunday. Called it a night around 3 am on Friday I think

I only mention ILYH and C&L, and that between the two I think C&L is the clear winner. I said nothing of other potential AotY contenders. English motherfucker do you speak it blah blah blah.
Here is a list I compiled of artists that AC Entertainment is booking the next couple of months that are NOT on the Bonnaroo lineup. I'll scratch bands off the list once I start cross referencing it with tour dates. I realize that some of these may have been ruled out already, but give me a break. I'm doing this while bored at work. Also, I'm gonna feel like a dumbass if someone has already done this.
Alt-J - They are in Italy on 6/14. Ani DiFranco - No tour dates between 5/18 and 6/17. Apache Relay - No tour dates after 5/09. Aretha Franklin - No tour dates between 5/17 and 7/11. Bad Suns - Tour ends 5/16 until the weekend of Firefly. Open for 'Roo. Bill Burr - No tour dates between 5/16 and 6/26. Blackberry Smoke - They are in the UK on 6/12. Built to Spill - Maybe? Only tour date in June is on 6/13 in Brooklyn, NY. California Honeydrops - Again, maybe? Only tour date in June is 6/14 in San Francisco, CA. Corey Smith - Couple of festival dates on 6/06 and 6/20 in the South. Dan Deacon - He will be in Europe. Datsik - Tour date in Murfreesboro on 4/11. Only June date is 6/26 at Electric Forest. Delta Spirit - Last tour date listed is 4/12 at a fest in Knoxville. Nothing about summer festival plans. Die Antwoord - They are open before they go to Europe on 6/18, but highly unlikely since they were there last year. Dirty Heads - At a fest in Alaska the weekend of Roo. Dr. Dog - Last date is 5/10 for Shaky Knees. Highly unlikely since they were at Roo last year. Earl Sweatshirt - In Europe during June. Father John Misty - Has about a week open that includes Bonnaroo before departing for Europe. Future Islands - Again, has the dates between 6/07 and 6/18 open. Who knows. Govt Mule - No tour dates between 6/07 and 7/11. At Mountain Jam Festival weekend before Roo. GRiZ - No tour dates between 5/25 and 6/19. Hollywood Undead - In Europe during Bonnaroo. Thank god. J. Roddy Walston and The Business - At Governor's Ball in NY weekend before Roo, which is their last listed date. Jason Isbell - Local guy, so may be there. No dates between 5/28 and 6/08. Jenny Lewis - No dates between 6/06 and 6/19. Wide open. Keb Mo - No dates between 6/06 and 6/18. Lewis Black - Tour ends on 5/30. Unless he announces more dates after that, I'd consider this unlikely. Lil Dicky - No tour dates after 06/05, which is a fest. Lucinda Williams - Only date in June is 6/06 at Red Rocks. I'd consider this unlikely. Mandolin Orange - Has 6/13-6/15 open; however the dates before and after that are on the West coast. Marilyn Manson - At Download Festival the weekend of Roo. Matt & Kim - No dates between 6/05 and 6/18, which are both festivals. Still a possibility. Melvins - Tour beginning on 6/16; however, have a date in Nashville on 7/5. Modest Mouse - No dates in June until 6/18, which is Firefly. Still a possibility. Nightwish - In Europe during Bonnaroo. Not that I could see them being at Roo, anyways. Panda Bear - No tour dates in June. In Spain at end of May - has a break until mid-July. Peter Hook & the Light - A "Joy Division" Celebration performing Unkown Pleasures & Closer Purity Ring - In Canada the weekend of Bonnaroo. Rob Zombie - Tour dates during all days of Bonnaroo. Ryan Adams - Only tour date in June is Gov. Ball. Maybe. Santana - Unlikely. Only tour date is the end of June in the Netherlands. Sheryl Crow - Not on the festival circuit this summer. Unlikely. Sleater-Kinney - Same situation as Panda Bear. No dates in June, and are in Barcelona 5/30. Slow Magic - Tricky. In France 6/06. In Portland, OR 6/19. SoMo - No dates after 5/09 St. Vincent - No dates between 6/07 and 6/22. Talib Kweli & Immortal Technique - No dates after 6/22. The Black Cadillacs - No dates after 5/01. The Doobie Brothers - Have all days of Bonnaroo open except for 6/12. The Kooks - Same as Doobie Bros. All days of Roo open except for 6/12. The SteelDrivers - No dates between 6/05 and 7/10. The Tallest Man on Earth - In NY on 6/03. Goes to Europe on 6/19. There is a gap for Roo before leaving the country. Toro y Moi - No tour dates in June, but is doing a run of festivals in July. tUnE-yArDs - In the UK 6/07, in Canada 6/22. TV on the Radio - Unlikely. Only date in June is in Tokyo Japan. Waka Flocka Flame - Unlikely unless more dates are annouced. No dates after 5/02. Walk the Moon - No dates between 6/05 and 6/18. Yellowcard - In Europe during Bonnaroo. Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band - Open dates between 6/06 and 6/27. Zappa Plays Zappa - No June tour dates.
I'm finally done with this. What have we learned? Not much, really. Fun to speculate, though.
I learned that there is still hope for Ani Difranco, and Matt n Kim, which would be fun. Also I learned that Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson are both out, either would be a blast late night one year. A few others remain on the maybe list.

I admitted that I haven't given the album a "solid listen" yet. I plan to really dive in this weekend. I just found I Love You, Honeybear to be right in my wheelhouse musically, the personal struggles he deals with in the album are pretty relatable for me at this time in my life, plus I really enjoy the album's sense of humor.
BTW I think Dave Maynar took that shot at me. It's fair to say that I wouldn't listen to Liturgy based on my post. (And I haven't)

I don't see any chance of it happening... But me first and the gimme gimmies would be beyond fun. Don't even have to be a punk fan to have fun at one of their shows. Like I said though, don't even see the slightest chance of that happening. Could be cool if they brought back dropkick... There is a break in their tour schedule at the time of roo.

He did. TBH, dudes kinda a dick.
Well we need dicks around here. I don't mind if I get caught in the crossfire every once in awhile. Their vitriol protects inforoo from the uninformed riff raff.

Different strokes. Sufjan's new one is gorgeous but depressing as hell. I Love You Honeybear is gorgeous and I don't want to die after listening to it. So I actually kinda prefer it in the Album of the Year running at the moment.

You mean "we're all gonna die" isn't a phrase you want repeated at you constantly?

Haha. Yeah, exactly that. I don't know if I was emotionally prepared for that while stuck in traffic on my morning commute.
Yeah, I don't really see it happening, I was just saying it would be cool. It's a huge gap in their tour though, almost two months.
I don't think it will be happening, either. They'll probably be taking a break. I think the only reason that they are playing that date in July is because it's at Fenway Park.

Sufjan can throw depressing shit my way all day long, I'll still luv it.
But yeah...this girl I've been seeing came over yesterday, entered the house while Fourth of July was playing, and she's a Sufjan fan but hasn't heard the new album yet, so she was like "uhhh...hi? Is this a safe space?"

It was more of a shot at jazzy because his taste in music is incredibly vanilla. That works too though.
Haha that's what I thought. I'm not gonna disagree with you, but for the sake of curiosity, what exactly do think makes music vanilla? My music knowledge definitely lacks depth, but not breadth - I listen to most genres. Is it just because I don't care for metal and lack a Radiohead boner? Yeah my music tastes include vanilla things - as do yours, Mr. Shake It Off - but that's definitely not all that's there is.
Edit: And ftr I'm not trying to be defensive because I don't consider it an offense - I like what I like and I'm okay with that - I'm just interested in your thoughts.

I figured that that large of a break is most likely them taking a break. And u r most likely right about the hometown show thing. Can always hold onto some hope though, bands have been known to play a festival or two while on a touring break... Again, don't see it happening, but I can dream

I don't even think that's what it is. You just pick the easiest target when giving someone shit. listens to plenty of genres but people just give him crap about the weird stuff. Phyre Fest listens to plenty but people just give him shit about the terrible edm he listens to. You bring up two singer songwriter esque acts and vanilla is the easiest target to go with.
