Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Bonnaroo's recent post reminded me about the lineup bracket battle we've had here at inforoo in the past. Last year it was just artists from Bonnaroo's lineup whereas in previous years we've pitted Bonnaroo vs. Coachella against each other. With so many shared artists across so many lineups we might even try something different by having a general artist bracket with no specific affiliation.
I spent a couple hours scouring line ups for festivals that are popular here on inforoo. I used headliners to fill the 1-9 seeds for each of the 4 regions and then filled in the remaining 28 spots with acts who are booked high on the lineups at multiple fests.
One thing I think that should be slightly changed is instead of just including acts at the top of the lineups, I say you go a little further down the lineup and include some artists that are more difficult to book and exclusive. Also, there are so many fests, how about we just do a lineup bracket (entire lineups versus entire lineups, like roo vs. coachella) It just seems more fun to me because I can pretty much guarantee who will win the artist bracket: Paul McCartney

I dont know how fun it will be this year. If we just do Roo artists like last year, MMJ will win just based on how much love they get on this board. If we do a general artist bracket, no one tops Sir Paul. That being said whatever you do decide to do I will participate.
I realized Paul would probably landslide the whole thing but that doesn't mean there won't be some interesting match ups along the way. Anyhow, I've always just enjoyed this as a way to pass time in counting down the long weeks until Bonnaroo. Also, it pained me not to throw Bjork, War on Drugs, Belle & Sebastian, and some others in as well because they are some of the artists I would most be pulling for but in the end decided to be as objective as possible with my method of inclusion. I want to try to use a poll system for voting so I don't have to personally tally everything up. I realize that will mean less posts in this thread and thus make it less visible to forum users which is why I have decided to allow results to be visible. That way people can campaign for their choices as we go along. I will let them go for one week per round ending Sunday night and post the next poll on Mondays since that is a day I am off. For this first one I've decided to let it go a little longer than a week to give people the opportunity to stumble onto this topic and figure out how things are going to work.
You can vote for up to 8 choices. This means you may choose not to vote for any pairing or even that you can vote for both of two opposing artists though that of course would merely cancel out your own vote for either of them.
I'm trying to decide how a tie break should work, any suggestions? I think in the past the host of the game would only vote in the event of a tie. I'm not a fan of this because I want to play along. However, how about if there is a tie which ever artist I DID NOT vote for is the winner. That effectively makes my vote count less so there can be no appearance of bias or power tripping about it.
I tried to use lineup placements to guide bracket seeding but I guess this really is the year of the undercard since there currently 3 upsets and 2 ties out of 7 matchups between headliners & non-headliners.
Yes I agree though it doesn't surprise me. The one I didn't expect was to see Foster the People leading their match up. Hardest decisions for me personally were The Strokes/Run the Jewels & Wilco/TV on the Radio. Oh, and the one I cared least about Keith Urban/No Doubt. In the end I decided that being married to Nicole Kidman was cooler than being in any way responsible for Hollaback Girl.
C'mon guys, Drake is better than Foster the People. I know you hate the guy, but let's look at this objectively....
Anything > Pumped Up Kicks
Objectively? Pssh. I'm not exactly a Foster the People fan, but at least Pumped Up Kicks has a killer bassline and melody, which is far more than I can say for anything in Disney Drizzy Drake's pity party playlist.
In Wayne's World 2, Rip Taylor tells Jim Morrison he's really a crooner working in the rock milieu; in that same vein, Drake is really just an emo kid working in the hip hop milieu.
Looks like deadmau5 has launched a terrific comeback and Run the Jewels is hanging in there as well. Anyone's guess on those two match ups and there are a couple others I'd still could still end up going either way with a week still left to vote yet.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
It's so sad that Foster the People are #5 overall simply because they're matched up against Drake. Like, aside from a couple Drake lovers around here, it's a matter of picking who you hate less and which you artist's fans you hate more, haha

It's definitely subjective, but I tried to pick acts who are: a) more critically well-received, and b) more of a "unique" get for festivals this year. In the case of Drake vs. FTP, I personally enjoy FTP's music much more than Drake's, but I ultimately chose Drake because he's been a pretty exclusive festival act prior to 2015, and FTP have been one of the the biggest festival whores out there. Not to mention their last album flopped.

I don't know about all that. I really liked Foster the People when I saw them in 2013(just wish he hadn't told me a 15min story about a fire escape) and Torches is a legit pop album still listen to that every once and a while.
I only know a couple songs by either so not in anyway an expert but I personally regard them as being on pretty equal footing though of course in different veins. I think Drake is more relevant timing wise but in 5 years I probably won't be thinking of either of them all that much. I did see Foster at Bonnaroo a couple years back and wasn't all that impressed however I don't think Pumped Up Kicks is a bad song like was being discussed above. To be completely fair, I might have taken more interest if I wasn't distracted by worrying that every song I stuck around for was costing me precious crowd space for Radiohead.

Same could be said about No Doubt being #2 but you know of course it's not the top 8 overall that advance but rather the winner of each pairing. I doubt either of those acts do nearly as well in Round 2.

I'd say to just follow your heart and feel free to change your picks as much as you like between now and next Sunday. The main thing is to realize the point is NOT simply to try to predict which is going to be more popular. That is obvious enough based on the voting. The true purpose is express your personal feelings on the match ups.
