Region 3 was pretty much a blowout in every contest and only had 1 undercard upsetting a headliner. We also have seen less and less voters in each subsequent round going from 119 to 105 and now 79. Lets see if Round 4, which I think should have some closer races, can bring some folks back into it before we begin the tougher match ups of Round 2.
All four #1 seeds advanced: The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, AC/DC still in it...for now Three #2 seeds advanced: Drake was eliminated by Foster the People Two #3 seeds advanced: deadmau5 & Sam Smith both eliminated Three #4 seeds advanced: Avett Brothers lost to Spoon in 4th Region Three #5 seeds advanced: Widespread Panic beat by Noel Gallagher's H.F.B. Only one #6 seed advanced: The Killers, Kings of Leon & Lenny Kravitz failed to advance Two #7 seeds advanced: Wilco & Ed Sheeran lost in first round Two #8 seeds advanced: Keith Urban & Jimmy Buffett knocked out
This means headliners won 18/28 contests with undercard challengers. There are currently 22 headliners and 10 undercard competitors going into Round 2. Round 2 will feature 9 Headliner vs Headliner, 3 Undercard vs Undercard & 4 Headliner vs Undercard matchups.
Only 4 match ups were decided by 10 votes or less, 3 of which were in Region 1. (3-deadmau5 vs 14-Future Islands; 5-Strokes vs 12-Run the Jewels; 7-Wilco vs 10-TV on the Radio) In 2 cases the winner won by fewer than 5 and the closest match was in Region 4 where 3-The Black Keys won over 14-Caribou by just 1 vote!
Just 8 our the initial 20 Bonnaroo artists remain in competition: 2-Mumford & Sons, 2-Billy Joel, 3-Kendrick Lamar, 4-My Morning Jacket, 5-Robert Plant, 11-Florence & the Machine, 11-Flume & 13-Spoon. deadmau5, Hozier, Bassnectar, Run the Jewels, Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino, Caribou, Ben Harper, Atmosphere, Mac Demarco, awolnation & Houndmouth have all been elminiated.
Unfortunately 4-My Morning Jacket will have to play 5-Robert Plant and 3-Kendrick Lamar is up against 11-Florence & the Machine in Round 2. There were 3 Bonnaroo vs Bonnaroo matchups in Round 1 with 2-Billy Joel def 15-Mac Demarco, 2-Mumford & Sons def 15-Atmosphere, and 3-Kendrick Lamar def 14-Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals.

This means headliners won 18/28 contests with under card challengers. There are currently 22 headliners and 10 under card competitors going into Round 2.
Only 4 match ups were decided by 10 votes or less, 3 of which were in Region 1. Damnittttt, I would've been so happy to see Caribou take the win over Black Keys
Me too though they technically lost by 2 votes because if it had ended in a tie my vote for them wouldn't have counted (that's how the tiebreaker works) and Black Keys still would have advanced.

Round 2 observations:
All four #1 seeds advance again: The Who, Elton John, Paul McCartney, AC/DC are going strong. Two out of three #2 seeds advance again: Mumford and Sons was knocked out by Modest Mouse. Both #3 seeds advance again: Kendrick Lamar and The Black Keys live to fight another round. Two out of three #4 seeds advance again: Pixies very narrowly lost to the Strokes in Round 2. One out of three #5 seeds advance again: Robert Plant and Foo Fighters are going home. Our only #6 seed advance again: Snoop Dogg won again but next round will be be the underdogg. One of two #7 seeds advance again: Tame Impala fell to Jack White in second round. Both remaining #8 seeds are eliminated: alt-J and Sleater-Kinney are no more for this year's tournament.
Only 3/28 undercard competitors remain (TV on the Radio, St. Vincent, and Spoon). In Round 2, all four Headliner vs. Undercard matchups resulted in wins for the Headliner. The 3 remaining advance from wins over other undercard opponents. This round will showcase one Undercard vs. Undercard matchup (10-TV on the Radio vs. 11-St. Vincent) and one Headliner vs. Undercard battle (1-AC/DC vs. 13-Spoon).
Five out of sixteen Round 2 matchups were decided by 10 votes or less. Two of these were by just 5 votes or fewer: 2-Jack White over 7-Tame Impala: 28-24 5-The Strokes over 4-Pixies: 27-24
Three out of the original 19 Bonnaroo artists remain. (2-Billy Joel, 3-Kendrick Lamar, and 4-My Morning Jacket) The four which exited in Round 2 were 2-Mumford & Sons, 5-Robert Plant, 11-Florence & the Machine, and 11-Flume.

Did anybody else actually fill out a paper bracket when this all started? I did one marking what my personal picks would be (as opposed to who I would have predicted to be more the popular choices) and it's halfway busted. My Regions 2 & 4 are completely finished since I would have liked to see Robert Plant and Caribou in Final Four, with James Blake and Sleater-Kinney joining them in the Elite Eight. Otherwise I'm not in terrible shape since I have The Who vs. St. Vincent for Region 1 Elite Eight and Paul McCartney vs. Kendrick Lamar in Region 3. My championship is also intact at this point with The Who vs. Paul McCartney.
After the show I witnessed yesterday, The Who should be in the final 4 (at the very least). I went in expecting a shell of The Who playing through the hits and getting out. The sounded awesome and we're having so much fun on stage. The guy next to me said they sounded better than the show he saw 20 years ago. Bonnaroo fucked up. This was the classic rock headliner to get this year
Two out of four #1 seeds advance again: Elton John was beat badly by 4-My Morning Jacket and AC/DC was narrowly upset by 13-Spoon. One out of two #2 seeds advance again: Billy Joel lost out in another close one to 6-Snoop Dogg. Both #3 seeds lost: Kendrick Lamar fell to 2-Jack White and The Black Keys were upset by 7-Modest Mouse. One out of two #4 seeds advance again: Beck had the misfortune to meet up with the might 1-Paul McCartney. The last #5 seed lost: The Strokes were eliminated by 1-The Who. The only remaining #6 seed advances again: Snoop Dogg won again and I still am surprised. The final #7 seed advances again: Modest Mouse moves on and will be the higher seed in matchup with 13-Spoon.
2 out of 28 undercard competitors remain (St. Vincent and Spoon). In Round 3 there was only one Headliner vs. Undercard match (1-AC/DC vs 13-Spoon) and amazingly the undercard opponent won. There was also an upset in the Undercard vs. Undercard match but that one was much less shocking (10-TV on the Radio vs. 11-St. Vincent). In Round 4 both Undercard opponents will face Headliner foes.
Two out of eight Round 2 matchups were decided by 5 votes or less. 6-Snoop Dogg over 2-Billy Joel: 35-30 13-Spoon over 1-AC/DC: 35-31
Of the 20 that began, 4-My Morning Jacket & 13-Spoon are the final remaining Bonnaroo performers in the Elite 8. The two that lost in Round 3 were 2-Billy Joel & 3-Kendrick Lamar.
Both #1 seeds advance again: The Who & Paul McCartney are through to the Final Four. The final #2 seed knocked out: Jack White is the latest victim to Paul McCartney's dominance. Our only remaining #4 seed advanced again: My Morning Jacket will represent Region 2 in semi-final round. The last #6 seed has fallen: Snoop Dogg's cinderella run has come to an end. The final #7 seed advanced again: Modest Mouse moves on and represent Region 4 in Final Four.
None of the 28 undercard competitors remain. St. Vincent and Spoon both lost to Headliner opponents in Round 4.
None of the 4 matches were very close with the closest battle still being won by over 20 points.
Of the 20 that began, 4-My Morning Jacket is the only Bonnaroo performer in the Final Four. The other which lost in Round 4 was 13-Spoon.

Round 5 observations:
One out of two #1 seeds advance again: The Who is out but Paul McCartney moves through to the Championship. Our only remaining #4 seed advanced again: My Morning Jacket will represent Region 2 in final round. The final #7 has been eliminated: Modest Mouse was the lowest seed to win their Region but won't be appearing in final contest.
None of the 28 undercard competitors remain.
1-The Who vs. 4-My Morning Jacket was fairly close being won by 8 points. 1-Paul McCartney vs 7-Modest Mouse: not so much!
Of the 20 that began, 4-My Morning Jacket was the only Bonnaroo performer in the Final Four and will also serve as sole representative of Bonnaroo in the Final.

Last day to vote and while it seems the outcome is obvious we still are more than 30 voters shy of last round's total participants. Get them in by 11:30 tonight.
Paul McCartney wins by a landslide as we pretty much all expected he would. Still it's been a fun distraction these last 10 weeks so want to thank everyone for their participation and look forward to next year when I'm sure we'll tweak things a little bit again to keep it fresh. Less than 4 weeks until Bonnaroo now so time to really begin counting down the days. See you there at the brunch and 'Go Rangers!' in the Stanly Cup playoffs.
